State of BYU Football.?. Hmmmmm

Playing a SIU Saluki team gets us nothing. We barely beat them, we drop into ranking abyss. We blow them out and it means nothing. No FSB team is going to move the needle. Do not ever schedule another game like this…not when you have the Mtn West or any other D1 conference to choose from!

BYU loses it’s last 5 games from last year and Sitake gets to keep his job. Any other coach in P4 would be gone. Shows how quirky BYU is. If Sitake keeps his job, he will need to upgrade his OC, just has he did with the DC, Hill

Historically, BYU has always won with good QB play. I like our QBs but am concerned with the lack of HS QB development. AROD gets a A+ for going with a option QB in our SMU win two years ago. He gets good grades in the Wilson/Hill development but an F in HS QB recruiting.
…Are we good with Retziaff and backup Bohanan? I think so but SMU will make that ? clearer.

Are we ranked #78? Nope, that is way off. BYU has historically been in the #40 range and even if BYU loses in Dalles Friday nite, We should be very tough at home vs. Big 12 teams and get closer to that ranking.

Will be be Bowling? I am going to say YES.
What say you?

I actually think we are going to a bowl. I say that with about 75% confidence, with nothing to go on but this last game, the improvement I expect to see over last week, and my Cougar optimism this time of year.

Don’t let me down, guys!

I am going to “attempt” to answer some of your comments.

That is true, but a FSB team gives BYU the ability to use it as a “Turn up” game where some real-life plays are more realistic. It is “supposed to be” a safe game to help further develop the players. Having said that, we should not have we should only schedule “ONE” FSB team a year.

I think Kalani saved his job, by letting go two coaches (one that needed it the other not). I also believe ARod has been put on notice by Holmoe. That if this debacle happens again, he will be gone.

I think Retzlaff and Bohanan are good enough to make it through the season. How good they are, ALL DEPENDS on the plays being called by ARod. I do have serious questions about ARod coaching ability for the QB’s who are coming from the High School ranks (most of them have transferred out).

I like the comraderies of Retzlaff and Bohanan, how Bohanan helped Jake learn new footwork to become better.

you know the ole saying "Opinions (rankings) are like A**holes, everyone has one! Every year teams are ranked high, only to falter during the season.

Really didn’t need your example. You could have come up with something better for the Church owned School.

Ya, I’m with you that starting off with a live game with a weak opponent is good for us. No season ending injuries and lots of good experience to improve by Friday. Right now, Direct TV has suspended their contract with ESPN and Disney to negotiate a new deal. Better be done by Friday.

Judging again?

It’s certainly appropriate to judge that. It was uncalled for. A very righteous judgment.

So Fish,
Serious question here:
I have over the past month or so “how could BYU schedule two road games in a row to SMU and Wyoming?”

At the time, everyone thought these two teams were going to be tough for BYU.

My question is this:
Could BYU have scheduled the two away games as a way to help the team overcome early trials and a hostile environment to help prepare the team for conference play?

Kind of toughen up the boys before they play the tough teams, type thing.

OK, that was me questioning the idiots that set up our schedule. Why two non-conference road games in a row.
SMU was a known quantity. They were 11-3, returning all their talent, in Dallas.
Wy, always hated BYU, always tough.

Two road games. I was thinking, IF BYU came out of non conference 2-1, we would be ready for Big 12 play. but if we had, say a SMU game at home and a road game vs. Wy, we would most likely be looking at 3-0 starting Big 12 play. We are light years ahead of last year in terms of prep for Big 12 play, older wiser, knowing that we should of beat both OU and OSU. comprende?

There is a reason why many teams cancel their home and home games with BYU once they got us on their home turf (Bama and ND). BYU should be smart and play that same game. Instead, we set ourselves up to have mediocre or average seasons.

Who says that Wy won’t be a very tough game. This spells “Trap” all over it. They always get up for the “Mo s” from Utah.

2-1 going into Big 12 play.
Home games:
K St.
Arizona
OStU
Kansas
Houston
We are only going to lose 2. pick em

Road games
Baylor
UCF
Utah
ASU

I’ll say win 2, lose 2.

Six wins, should be seven with better scheduling. See?

The last game they played brought that point up. :open_mouth:
Well, you could say the same thing for all the teams that had “ugly” games last weekend. LOL

One, I don’t think Wyoming or SMU would be the way ND and Bama are. They have a good relationship with BYU (maybe not the fans though).

second, I think two road games is good for the players to take them out of their comfort zone to prepare them better for the season. Just an opinion though.

Amazing what one game did to the Big 12 rankings…
