BYU basketball: Brody Kozlowski’s twists and turns to Provo – Deseret News
When i looked at his highlights, I saw a smart player who shoots and passes well but lacking from athletic explosiveness. BYU now as 3 guys on the team who are fighting for the same position, 2 of which has years of professional play. 1 is a one and done-top 25 recruit and genes of a WNBA HOFmer. I don’t see Kosz getting play time this year.
I don’t you will see the traditional “starters”, but more what the NBA is moving to “Transitional matchups”, meaning based on what team they play and who is on that team will determine who starts in that game.
I could be wrong, but that was my impression with what some of the articles were saying.
Totally agree with switching out starters depending on who they face. Mag is a lock down defender while Catchings is an elite scorer. But Boskovic defends well along with crazy range. The more I think about it
Hall
Demin
Boskovic
Keba will be main starters. who will be the one more?
I still think Koz is buried behind a lot of talent with way more experience.
Mag, Catchings, Baker, Saunders, Foos. What a problem to have.
and you bring Demin and Boskovic off the bench?
Interesting
I would start both of them if they are coachable.
To me, Baker is Saunders on steroids. But, Mag and Catchings are going to be great too. What a problem to have. Glad we have an NBA coach to deal with it all.
Maybe my years of studying the Russian language biased me, but I do not understand why this video needs to be made…but listening to months of a simple name being slaughtered has taught me otherwise.
BYU Men’s Basketball on X: “had to set the record straight @whoisegor3 https://t.co/rSWxECYg1Z” / X
having spend 20 years wandering the globe, People slaughter my name. At no time did I ever care. I’m in their country and they try.
Demin is bored stiff about now, no games to play, in between summer coached work outs and fall prep. He is just being funny. I like him a TON. I think I will take him fishing.
How do people mispronounce “Fish?”
I don’t think it matters who starts. BYU has the talent to use a 10 man rotation. The real question is who gets 25-30 minutes, who gets 10-15 and maybe a few get 5-10. There are about 12 guys who could be in a ten man rotation at about any school. Ideally you want an 8 man rotation with all your rotation players getting at least 15 minutes or more.
Guys who I think should be in a 10 man rotation, in no particular order, are:
Foos
Saunders
Hall
Denim
Mag
Keita
Catchings
Boskovic
Baker
Knell
Maybe Crawford takes Knell’s spot against quicker teams. I think Knell should be used as a 3 point specialist the way Dave Rose used his nephew MiKe Rose his first few years ar BYU.
Kozlowski could get in the mix if there are some injuries at his spot.
The rest of the roster are mop up guys in blowouts.
The one question that I have is whether a 10 man rotation will work. You rarely see a rotation greater than 8, sometimes 9. The big problem BYU will have is keeping 12 good players happy. It may sound cold but losing anybody other than the 12 I mentioned would not be a loss. There appears to be enough talented players that a few injuries won’t be a big issue. We will see in a few months. These guys haven’t played a game together yet so we don’t really know what will happen. Young has never been a head coach in a P4 college basketball conference.
That is all he could do. Not bad. Knell can be a killer when he has open looks… considering BYU has more ball handlers then ever.
Young has to worry about 2 things.
1 On D, How to defend their best players, KY has great defenders and can go big or fast.
2 On O, the NBA game is all about mismatches, bring the ball up, wipe your guy off on a high pic…drive and dish (Gonzaga) or head to the hoop and hope two guys try to stop you or you score. either way, someone is wide open.
The fact that BYU brought in Ryan Smith Money and told the world is mind blowing! Since when did we ever talk about $$ church in sports???
The fact that KY, with his big NIL war chest said, “Come one, come all” means to me that he intends to make BYU a Calipari type school but with one hopeful…KY needs a core of non NBA guys to build a foundation for these NBA types to come and go…the place where Calipari failed and why he bolted for Arkansas.
Buckle up. this is going to be BYU’s craziest ride ever.
Isn’t Knell is a defensive liability according to all the prognosticator armchair point guards in here? If Kozlowski can defend, he’s also good from outside.
I wonder also about Foos. He’s been pretty much one dimensional on offense. Has he been able to improve his game in other areas?
And, how good is Crawford? He’s a point guard only. But, Demin can play the point as well. And has Stewart improved?
So many high potential players. The good thing is we have a core of true BYU players that have been here for a long time and want to be here for more than a year. In college, that’s important. Look how UCLA fell even with a bunch of 5 star players. Too many “I” in “Team” can be a problem. I’m sure Young knows this and before recruiting any of them, the players know and are willing to play How and where Young wants.
I think KY will understand that he needs that core of 2-4 year guys. The ceiling has been raised for BYU, and now we get to ask the unthinkable: can BYU get one or even two “one and dones” each year? Considering we have ONE in program history, it’s wild and wonderful we can even be thinking this way! Because if we land one or two whales each year, we WILL get better multi-year players than ever before. Crawford, Koz, Saunders, Hall—those guys would be our best recruits in almost any other era. I think KY will get a couple of those types each year to supplement the whales and then buckle up.
