The all too early BYU football schedule

Now that the coaching caracal has subsided, the transfers are pretty much settled. We can get down to what 2026 looks like. 7 Home Games and the Fighting Irish: A First Look at BYU’s 2026 Schedule

1- First question- is BYU better today than when we ended the season (players lost to players gained)?

The simple answer= Bear and LJ Martin. The long answer= We did not lose much and had only 3 holes to fill. We improved in every category except at WR, and that may be a surprise.

2- I look at each season with, “What are our away games”?

Utah, has to reload. UCF, needs a new QB, TCU, Dikes losses his QB as well. Kansas, Robinson gone so every single one of our Road games, we face a new QB. THIS IS HUGE.

3- Home games, after 2 years, BYU finally has less road games and 5 home games:

Arizona, still has Fifita. Arizona State, starting a good but 2nd string QB. Cincinnati, Iowa State, Baylor all have news QBs.

4- Pre-season, Utah Tech, @ CSU as a tune up for league play….

5- Norte Dame, Notre Dame Football Will Look Very Different In 2026

6- When I compare this year’s season to last, I saw a number of road games last season that I thought were 40-60 games. This year I see 60-40 games. Utah will be tough but they lost sooo much. N.D. will come in here favored, but would you like to see Bear and Martin across from you?

Excited for a very big season and hopefully another shot at TTU.

We will see tomorrow when the Big12 schedule comes out who we actually play. But, so far, I see that we aren’t playing TTU at our place. I would like to see that one. I think we are fine at receivers. Philips has some really great size and speed. The slot is still strong. And, we do have some others that are supposed to be pretty good as well. Then, we have definitely stepped it up with the TE’s. We can run many different looks at them with the WR’s and TE’s together. My question is can we still pick up a good running back in case of injuries again. We need another one that doesn’t go down the moment they are touched.

November 7 at Utah go figure. Are we ever going to our rivalry game at the end of November?

November 17 against Notre Dame finally at home

November 3 at TCU during Saturday general conference session hopefully it’s a night game

October 31 Arizona State on Halloween night we hope

And yes, we have seven home games

this schedule is a “in BYU’s favor”, quite the opposite of last season where I think we had 4 games that looked extremely tough. If BYU does not make the Big 12 finals, I would have to chalk it up to injuries at key positions.

1- QBs for every team….Predicting every Big 12 starting quarterback for the 2026 season I thought Dampier left for Mich. with Whitt.

2- would of preferred to play ND earlier in Sept. (they will be replacing RB1 and RB2, so this gives them time to develop their game. A quick look at ND, why am I not surprised they have a bye week before playing BYU, ND needs to join a league or be docked for whimpy schedules.

3- BYU’s 2026 football schedule

  • Sept. 5 — vs. Utah Tech

  • Sept. 12 — vs. Arizona

  • Sept. 19 — at Colorado State

  • Sept. 26 — Bye

  • Oct. 3 — at TCU

  • Oct. 10 — vs. Iowa State

  • Oct. 17 — vs. Notre Dame

  • Oct. 24 — at UCF

  • Oct. 31 — vs. Arizona State

  • Nov. 7 — at Utah

  • Nov. 14 — vs. Baylor

  • Nov. 21 — at Kansas

  • Nov. 28 — vs. Cincinnati

  • Dec. 4 — Big 12 championship game (Arlington, Texas)

Has anyone seen this running back on social media?

AJ McBean on X: “10.61 season opener for the 100m!! Only going to get better and better watch:heavy_dollar_sign: https://t.co/rRWEcBoHCf” / X

I just need to make a slight correction to your schedule.

Dec. 4 — vs Texas Tech (Arlington, Texas)

I hope you are correct. In the current Big 12 after OU and Texas left the championship has been a surprise the last 2 seasons. Utah and Ok St were supposed to be the favorites two years ago and they were on the bottom. I don’t think anybody saw ASU winning in 2024. BYU was supposed to be a 6-6 team and ended up 11-2.

I don’t know that anybody saw Tech as being as good as they were last year before the season started. They were supposed to be good but I am am not sure anybody foresaw just how good they would be. Maybe Tech fans saw it coming. I.am friends with the dad of Tech OT Jacob Ponton and he was telllng me how good Tech would be, and just thought it was fan talk. I think when BYU lost Retzlaff last spring nobody saw them going 12-2. I think most people figured 8-4 would be a good record and 9-3 would exceed expectations.

I was pretty far out on a limb last year after seeing the transfer haul and calling for us to go undefeated winning every game by double digits before the season started. I still think that should have happened and almost did if not for ASU. I’m always a glass completely full predictor for Tech though.

I’ll be extremely disappointed if we don’t go undefeated in the regular season this year and win by around the same margin if not more than last year. I truly believe the offense will be far and away the #1 in the country by a pretty wide margin due to the O-line, RBs, and now adding a mobile QB. Ponton is a big reason for my confidence as well. He should be All Conference next year. I just don’t think anyone in the conference is going to be able to keep up with us on that end. On defense we don’t take as much of a step back as most people hope we will either. Then you add in how weak our schedule is not having to play you guys or Utah and I just can’t find a game we have any chance of losing.

If I had to predict BYU’s season I can’t see more than one loss either though so I’m predicting a rematch in Arlington.

I hope you are right. We should have a great team this year. On paper the only game we would be the underdog in is Notre Dame and that one is at home. Utah on the road will be tough.

I’m rooting for you guys big time in that game against Notre Dame but that’s the only loss I’m putting on your schedule. I actually think Utah takes a decent step back this year but with it being a rivalry anything can happen. I’m not super high on them though and considering how poorly their administration handled the situation with Whittingham I’m thinking karma might bite them this year.
