The most exciting moment in the game?

#GoOldroyd I was totally impressed with the dude’s calmness. Right down the middle! 1) He barely made the travel squad. 2) He injured his knee during spring ball, and only had a couple of reps in fall ball. 3) Hardly anyone on the team even knew who he was 4) He hadn’t even been issued cleats from BYU yet, which is why he had his lime green shiners on and 5) How did Lamb know to put him in since he probably was 3rd string kicker? Regardless, I think that he should wear his lime green shiners until he misses a PAT or FG, which might be his next kick, or never. I vote never!
Go Cougs!!!

Love it - all these points make it that much easier to love this kid and make this an awesome story, very cool

Talk about pressure for this freshmen kid. Perfect kick for winning the game for all of us. Thank You!

I was told that the kid has not kicked a field goal since he was a Junior in High School… Like 3 or 4 years ago…

Interesting…

Yeah, I heard him on KSL say the same thing. He hasn’t kicked a field goal in a game since his junior year. Apparently, his HS team had a good kicker so he just did kick-offs. That said, I am sure he kicked several field goals in practice which caught Ed Lamb’s eye.

Especially after the “Doink” FG attempt by Almond (sp?) earlier in the game… LOL

I was pretty impressed with most of the team effort, however I have some serious doubts about the left side of the Offensive line… they looked horrible and weak.

I think they were the two SUU transfer, I hope Kyle Johnson get healthy soon enough to play again.
Last year he and Rykers held that left side protect pretty solid, in fact Johnson was the only lineman last year to not allow a sack of the QB.

Johnson wouldn’t be a relative of yours or someone you know, would he?

I vaguely remember you saying something to that effect last year or the year before. The reason I ask is it seems you might be a little biased… horrible and weak are not terribly accurate descriptions. If they were that bad, Arizona would have been a lot better than they played in this game…

Yes Jim, I know personally know Kyle… So yes, I am a bit biased… Just like I am a bit Bias about Bart Oates being one of the best lineman ever to play at BYU, because I know Bart personally.

That does not negate the fact that the Offensive Line Coach last year told Kyle (as reported by his dad) that he was the only Lineman that did not allow a sack.

However, When the Sports announcers noticed how ineffective the left side of the line was, I think there is a problem. I noticed whenever Hill was pressured it mostly came from the left side, When Williams ran, he was more effective on the right side.

As a former lineman, I think my characterization of the left side of the line as being horrible and weak is accurate. They did not do a good job of pocket protections, neither did they do a good job of run blocking.

Go back Jim and look at how many times they rushed Hill in the 3rd and 4th Qtrs… For a line that gave up about 50-60 lbs, it sure looked like they were able to rush Hill… Just my observations, if you don’t agree, fine… you have your opinion and I have mine.

I don’t disagree with you, I just thought the descriptions were a little harsh. :fearful:

I noticed a couple plays when LT79 and the LG were simply put backwards on skates–on RUNS. That is not ok at all. This week will be a huge test for the OL. If they can break even with Utah’s DL, it will be a huge confidence booster.

We only had success running to the right…we really need to amp up that left side of OL …definitely an area of concern
