That would give some of the less costly universities an edge in recruiting because the costs would be less for them to pay. My question is, what would they pay for if they have the list above? An expensive car or bicycle? It’s really difficult to figure all this out and be fair to the student athletes, the rest of the students, faculties and universities too.
So, I guess just look at college athletes and pay them for the work they do in their sport job. But, do all athletes get paid the same for every sport? Or the same on the same team sport? Is the QB more important than the OL? They need each other.
When the love of money is. Things are moving fast and there will be those schools that will lose out. May just be those where the cost of things aren’t high like Kansas, Nebraska and many others that will have to raise their tuition so high no one will attend.
When utilize resources like these for our personal self, don’t we pay the rate that these people charge?
The resources set their own rate and the athlete pays for it, pretty simple solution to me.
As for “fair” why don’t you ask all non-athletic student pays for these services themselves if it seems fair to them that not only do these players get these resources, now they are going to get paid as well?
As I told my kids as they were growing up, “Life is not fair, never has been, never will be! If you want fairness, then take advantage of the opportunities as they present themselves.”
Then you add the inept NCAA organization to the mix, it turns into a disaster!
You also aren’t including the fact that the normal every day student brings $0 into the school’s funds except their tuition. While the football and basketball athletes bring now millions. I think that is simple enough to understand.
Here’s something easy enough for even you to understand. When an actor helps bring in millions to a film studio, he/she gets paid. No matter if it’s the leading actor or not, they get paid. The “stars” or leads get paid much more than the supporting actors and fill ins. But, they get paid. And so do all the camera people and everyone else that were employed. Same with the college athletes. Why do they not get paid? Even if the film is crappy they still get paid. Even if it’s a low budget movie they get paid. So, why not the student athlete? Even those I’m not so high profile sports? The support staff get paid. And some of the student staff get paid to clean up.
Hope that helps.
