The REAL problem with Elections and how we run the country

This is 2-fold:

1 Unlimited money from corporations and billionaires:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/democrats-discuss-party-disillusionment-donor-culture-cuomo/vi-AA1rVra1?ocid=socialshare

2 Term limitations: These people that get elected into congress and senators have no one to answer to…how long has Chuck Schumer been in office? Term limitations would also stop Congressmen and Senators from becoming multimillionaires while serving. $$$$$ corrupts.
I would take that one step further, set limits for how long a bureaucrat can serve, Fauci was politized, the director of the FBI is certainly politized. We need people who do their job first, not people who build empires unto themselves.

The Clinton foundation…WTF??? This is a charity that shut down the Clintons left office. Did one penny go to the benefit of the Charity? To some extent, I think they impeached Trump because they thought he would come in and take away their golden fleece.

The opposition would say your “term limits” is the way you VOTE! Not saying that you are wrong, just what others have said about term limits.

BTW, the only way that “term limits” would happen is if the States call a Constitutional convention.
Constitutional Convention : Two-thirds of the state legislatures (34 out of 50 states) can call for a constitutional convention to propose amendments. This method has never been used for any of the 27 amendments to the Constitution

Because I do not see either party pushing that issue through congress.

The “others” are the long term members of the Senate or House. They like being able to scam the system for their benefits. So, I pay no attention to them. There is a movement for a while now for the States to do a Convention of the States to change the Constitution. 19 states have done so out of the 34 that is required.

No, the others that I am talking about is the Utah GOP party. including those on the Trump rally train.

Those that supprt Mike Lee and of course those that call Trump “Captain Moroni”!

Why are you caught up with Utah government? We were talking about the Congress and the President. “Others” is as I put it.

because they go to Washington to get $ich.

my response to fish was about term limits.
not about congress.

Yes, term limits in Congress was Fish and my point. Honestly, I can’t believe you gave me that answer. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I was explaining that the only way to implement term limits in Congress is if the states call for a constitutional convention. I’m not sure why this is such a contentious issue, unless you just enjoy being combative.

I believe most people start with good intentions, but then they encounter the “machine” that runs Washington. They soon realize that making a difference is not as easy as they thought it would be, so the alternative is to make money while they’re there.

However, I do think we have some good congressmen, like Curtis and Moore. They are low-key, get good things passed with bipartisan support, aren’t on Fox News every week, and basically keep in touch with the people in their districts.

Because the Republican party in Utah has twice attempted to pass a constitutional amendment that would limit my rights under the State constitution, it’s clear they are not in favor of citizens having the ability to hold a referendum on any law they enact.

The proposed amendment would explicitly grant the legislature the power to amend or veto laws passed by citizen initiatives and extend the signature collection period for the referendum process.

So, you see, it’s not only Democrats who are trying to take away our rights.

I think that will happen under Trump. I also think that we have enough states to do it. Wouldn’t that be his legacy!!!

100% but boy Washington corrupts.

I have a friend involved in politics who was discussing the “machine” in Washington DC. It’s not about any particular party or individuals, but rather the process by which things get done.

For example, imagine a new Congressman with a great idea for a bill that would benefit all Americans. He wants to get it on the floor. However, there’s another bill that a powerful Congressman wants to pass but doesn’t have enough votes for. The new Congressman doesn’t support this bill because he believes it’s not good for the American people.

Here’s how the interaction might go between the leader of the House or Senate (whether Democrat or Republican) and the new Congressman:

Leader: “Hey, your bill is really good, but I see you’re not voting for that other bill I want passed.”

New Congressman: “Yeah, that bill has too many things in it that make it bad for the American people.”

Leader: “If you want your bill to see the light of day, you’ll vote for that other bill.”

This is how the process works for both parties in Washington. For instance, Trump killed a bill in Congress, and his followers voted it down (an immigration bill) even though it had bipartisan support. I’m not saying the bill was good or bad, but the “process” or the “machine” killed it because someone powerful wanted it stopped.

Thank goodness for Trump! You do know he’s not the President? But, he’s still the voice of good reason. That immigration bill would have killed democracy as tens of millions would have come in and been registered only Democrats. Well, let me clear up my own mistake. It would have led to the destruction of our Constitutional Republic. It would have led to a pure democracy of majority rule. By-by to the entire 1st and 2nd amendments. As well as the 5th. Probably most of them.

Here is California, the California Supreme Court does that already. As well as the entire Judicial system your Harris came out of.

Explain exactly without hyperbole, where in that bill was it going to destroy democracy?

what i saw in the bill was a funds going to Israel, Ukraine, the border, and change the rules for immigration.

but my main point is that congress passes laws, Trump who is not president had it dumped.

Have a question and a statement. Isn’t Utah pretty much a Mitt Romney Republican state? Isn’t Mitt going to vote for Harris? Reach across the isle Romney?
This is what happens when the good guys reach across the isle and shake hands with the devil.

Yes, Romney is one senator for Utah, but the other one is a close Trump ally, his name is Mike Lee. He is the one that called Trump “Captain Moroni”.
we have two representatives that was endorsed by Trump (Malloy and Burgess). the other two support trumps policies, but not the rah rah type.

The State GOP Committee members are all “pro Trumper” and support the far right agenda.

You really need to do your research before making stupid statements.

What you described is not a far right agenda. You need to do your homework better.

People throw around the term far right very loosely. To me far right means Nazi, Fascist
skin head, etc. It doesn’t apply to Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, or Donald Trump. In fact Trump is quite moderate on a number of social issues like abortion. The Tea Party was not far right. I was never a member of the Tea Party but I was in agreement with them on nearly all issues and supported nearly all of their candidates.

I had to edit part of this remark since I attributed a remark about moderation to Edmund Burke that he did not make. The person I meant to quote was Ayn Rand and to paraphrase her only evil profits when there is a compromise between good and evil. It is my opinion that too many moderates compromise too much on moral issues. Some that are branded as being far right are often those trying to hold the line on moral issues and those who want to uphold the constitution in accordance to the intent of the founders.

Soooo, where do you put Majorie Taylor Greene? That will greatly define your position on what is far right and what is not.

Where do you put her? I think he was clear and not off on any remarks.
