BYU is on an island, even among religious schools. Look at Notre Dame’s, or Liberty’s, or whoever’s honor codes/codes of conduct. To say nothing about Baylor, Boston College, etc. Mormons are currently the only ones who care at all about the law of chastity, for example. Other “religious” schools are perfectly fine with cohabitation. And even Notre Dame has stridently liberal professors who openly and publicly flout Catholic teaching.

Remember back in the 1990s, when only BYU and Campbell College refused to play on Sundays? There are lots of examples where only BYU takes a stand on traditional, conservative, religious values that used to be associated with religion as society understood it. Not any more, at all.

I was commenting on his statement that religious colleges can’t teach higher education.

Only a Narcist would call someone else ignorant.

Wow! Did you learn that one at BYU? Perhaps I’m just not ignorant

Remember Chase Hansen wanted to come to BYU as well, but BYU offered him so late that he felt insulted and went to Utah. Bronco didn’t even offer Covey anything more than a walk on. Those were two really, REALLY bad misses by BYU.

Back to basketball: I still don’t see a team interested or able to defend consistently, and I’m sick and tired of guards handling the ball around the perimeter. That OT made me sick because all I could think was that we could pound Yo down low and they couldn’t do anything to stop him, but instead we just kept hoisting up from outside, like all Rose’s teams do in crunch time. Yuk.

Reminds me of the St Marys game where Bry had a clear path tot the rim and passed out to Seljaas for a 3. Rose steals defeat out of the mouth of winning. Never coaches until its too late. Its gonna be another rough year.

I can see Joe Girard taking that last shot. I noticed Joe didn’t have BYU on his remaining list… Syracuse, Duke, Michigan, St John, etc. At one time he had BYU but during his senior year he shorten his list. Did Dave Rose ever recuited him or visited him? Did Girard visited BYU? Or did Dave Rose decided didn’t want to go far and stuck with instate of his choosing? I wonder. But, I didn’t really think Joe was coming because he was getting really popular with those top program schools in his area.

Don’t forget the Utah Kicker Gay, he is like All American… BYU cut him…

The story is that he walked on at BYU, he had always wanted to play for BYU. But Kalani and company was set on his kickers, and they basically cut him… So he went to Utah and walked on there… made the team and as they say, “The rest is history”.

I find that hilarious of a commentary and you’re still using it. Rose didn’t have the ball. Bryant did. He passed it. The play was if he had the shot (layup) take it. If not, pass it out. It was Bryant’s miscue, not Rose.
It’s like Trump Derangement Syndrome. Or, Bush Derangement Syndrome. This is Rose Derangement Syndrome. I’m sure the lady Cougar’s volleyball team was Rose’s fault too.

And somehow BYU seems to become the only D1 team in America that can’t consistently put kickoffs into the endzone–and at altitude…pathetic

Good points Rubicon. I have my doubts about how religious Notre Dame is. Their football program and their own TV network is based on their national championships in the twenties and thirties.Ever hear about the “Subway Alumni.” People who did go to college are huge Notre Dame fans. They always get the benefit of the doubt when a question or issue comes up. I have been to South Bend, Indiana. It is a bit of an old sleazy town. A lot of old housing and lower middle class population. Nice people, but I was surprise how old and downtrodden the town looks.

I can think of at least 3 games in the last 2 years where Seljaas took the last shot for a win and there have been 3 misses and 3 losses. I think they need to take him off the court when they are working for the last shot. Bring in Harding or somebody else, Emery maybe. It seems Seljaas is about a 37% 3 point shooter this year but worse than that on game winners. He shouldn’t be taking the last shot. I would like to see Harding, Emery, Hardnett, Haws, and Childs on the court at the end. If Childs is doubled the rest of those guys can drive to the hoop as well as shoot the jumper.

I was frustrated watching the end of regulation against UNLV. At about the 6 second mark they should have taken the ball inside and if there is a miss there is a chance for a put back with little or no time left. If Childs is covered then let Hardnett take it to the hole and try to draw a foul or get a layup. He is good at that. When you only need 1 point to win why settle for a three at the buzzer. It made no sense to me. There were several better options. It is always better to put up a shot and give yourself a chance for a put back rather than take a long one at the buzzer.

Bingo, Just look in their eyes and you know who wants it and who has that deer in the headlight. Seljaas has way too much bouncing around in his head. I love Harding and he is only going to get better.

The reason why I brought up the Bry pass in the Saint Marys game IS Bry could have finished, he had the layup but for some reason Bry followed the play and passed out to Seljaas. Rose cost us that game as well as the UNLV game. You have to let your studs finish the play, not some inconsistent player. Need 1 point? no brainer, get it into Yo with a kickout to Haws or Hardnett to drive.
