Today was probably

the most complete game, from start to finish, BYU has played yet. I thought Fischer finally played the kind of game that should be expected of a senior. Generally speaking he made good decisions, didn’t force things, played good enough defense and basically, for the first time I can remember, looked like a TEAM player. It made a huge difference too. He looked more sure of himself.

I wasn’t too excited about Kaufusi sitting but that is Rose decision. I just hope he doesn’t get down on himself (oh wait, is that okay to say?) and lose confidence or anything.

I did not get to see the game. Why can’t kaufusi get in a game? Is he injured?

I don;t think he was injured. I hope he keeps his head up and finds a role that can help the team, but a lot of that is up to Rose. I don’t think enough time has been spent on helping him figure out his role and siting on the bench for an entire game isn’t going to do him any good. He started out the season strong but seemed to regress a little. The main problem I see is that he still plays undisciplined defense, leaving his feet too much and not moving his feet and using his size. He makes some nice blocked shots but hasn’t developed a post game and struglles to get rebounding position. He is athletic but plays small, perhaps because he isn’t strong enough?

You missed BYU’s best complete team game so far this year.

It was a good overall team effort and nice to see. Fischer had 26 but he didn’t force it. Collinsworth was everywhere, especialy rebounds and Aytes played well. Davis was average but contributed well and Seljaas continues to be a consistent bright spot. He has stepped up as much as any player.

Kaufusi not strong enough? LOL!!!
His field goal shooting is actually pretty good. Better than Austin. I have no idea why he is riding the pine.

Kaufusi didn’t need to sit the entire game-but the team won in a team effort and Aytes continues to make a positive impact. BYU is going to need Kaufusi and I hope when they do he doesn’t act like he is walking on egg shells. Should at least split time with Austin. Thursday night wyill be a tell all about this team-not saying they will win-but they need to compete. Fischer playing well makes this team competitive.

Glad to see you agree with my take SR… about BYU winning with a team effort. Particularly about Fischer, when he plays like he did today, making the team competitive.

I agree they will need Kaufusi. Unfortunately his lack of strength and inability to post up and back a defender down (like Davis and Aytes do) limits him. He is athletic and can run the floor, plus he does a decent job blocking shots. If he could improve his low post offense by backing down the defender he would be more effective.

Kaufusi’s lack of strength? LOL!!! Lack of strength…he’s plenty strong enough…

You can’t argue with results. Kaufusi sat and we started winning. Austin started and we’ve won every game
I trust what Rose is doing

Austin has nothing to do with us winning. Aytes gives us more scoring with defense than Austin. I think it’s more than what we assume (except for me - I’m right )

Coach Rose thinks Austin has something to do with the team coming together and playing together. Given his winning percentage, in the top 10 of all division 1 coaches, I think I’ll take his opinion over yours.
Aytes undoubtedly provides more scoring than Austin his defense and rebounding are not quite as good yet though. He has been one of the more pleasant surprises on this team so far this year. If his ankle holds I think he’ll be a legit contributor.

Points per game: Kaufusi 6.9/ Austin 1.5
Rebounds per game: Kaufusi 4.1/Austin 3.9
Assists per game: Kaufusi 0.4 Austin 0.8
Blocks per game: Kaufusi 1.5/ Austin 0.4
Steals per game: Kaufusi 0.3/ Austin 0.3

I’ll take Kaufusi. You and Rose can watch Austin fall down on every other play. Austin gives us very little compared to Kaufusi. And Kaufusi and Aytes will around next year.
