You are only one hit away. TTU lost because Morton was out. Hammond blew out his leg. Good advice to everyone in every sport.
I concede to that as I am pretty arrogant right now but mainly because this team is just that good. Maybe the best defense and a top 10 offense in the country for this program is unprecedented. We slipped up once as sometimes happens. I mean Alabama lost to FSU by double digits but nobody really believes that would happen again if they played right now. Same goes for ASU. It was a complete anomaly for us this season.
As for those top teams you mentioned you should hope we dominate them because it would signal this conference isnāt as far behind as the national pundits want everyone to think. I donāt think any of those teams are rolling over us but I wouldnāt necessarily expect any easy wins either. Not saying we couldnāt but I wouldnāt expect it. Donāt worry though probably my last post until next we face. You guys are a lot classier fanbase than if one of yāall showed up on one of our boards. So, I gained even more respect for yāall after jumping on here and you kept it respectful despite me being a little antagonizing. I was hoping to mix it up a little but you guys might be the most cordial fanbase Iāve ever experienced. Itās hard not to like you guys which is almost the exact opposite of the Utah fan base. I keep trying to find a rival fanbase that I can learn to hate in this new Big 12 and I think this helped me settle on Utah after this. Good luck the rest of the season.
2nd time youāve made me laugh. Thanks!
You may be interested to learn that Oahu, Hawaii public school power house Kahuku are also the Red Raiders. Kahuku is a perennial state power and one of the top producers of D1 football scholarships per capita in the entire country despite having very limited resources. āKahuku Boysā donāt come from money, but instead come from great families, work hard, and truly believe they represent an entire community. Itās like Friday Night Lights x10 at Kahuku. On the North Shore, āRed Raider for Lifeā is more than a sloganāitās like a sacred blood oath. As I said, best wishes for TTU. Hope we see you again, and, if not, Go Red Raiders and win it all.
The B12 fan bases will learn (if not already) that BYU is a solid, winning program and that with few exceptions our coaches, players, and fans are respectful towards our opponents. BYU has been playing high level football for most of the last 45 years. Even elite level a few times (one Natty, one Heisman, several top 10 teams, lots of top 25s, and not many years in between good seasons). We have a big fan base. We are grateful to be in the B12 with its excellent football and basketball programs, and hope we do the B12 proud when we play top teams from other conferences. Good luck the rest of the way. Like I said earlier, Iāll only root against Joey McGuire if BYU is involved.
LOL, Utahā¦.fans take after Whitt., He wonāt mention anyone from the other team, will never compliment anyone (and secretly, they are PISSED that Yormark was forward thinking and took lesser money to lock in the ESPN contract, dooming the P12.
Hey you are welcome here anytime. As several here have said, the only way the Big12 is going to keep up with $$train of the SEC/Big10 is to beat them and any team that does beat an SEC team is a friend of Mine!!! Did you know that Alabama owes BYU a game. We went there, they reneged on the BYU trip. Same with Notre Dame. Anyone that beats those DBags are my heroes.
Hereās to home court in the playoffs!
Agree and Iām glad you said probably not on Bear because I think he has potential if he were to develop a game that works in the NFL. Quarterbacks in the NFL need to be able to run once in awhile but mostly they need to see the field, understand defenses and coverages, get the ball out fast and anticipate a lot. Those are just a few things and Bear is only 18 and just starting so hold off on the notion that he isnāt NFL material. He might surprise you.
too early to say anything about Bear. We have only one game where Bear had the green light to throw long balls (ISU) and he threw close to a perfect game on his long balls.
Retzlaff as an NFL gameā¦.he just does not have an NFL mind. Way too many brain farts. Man, he can throw some beautiful balls, then a wounded duck. No way would he have done well in the TTU game.
Both I and Tom feel that the TTU game was poorly coached. Stacking the box with 8 defenders and AROD is running the ball into 8 guys??? As Tom pointed out:
We ran or threw dinks all night into their strength. Canāt put this on Bear or the players (well, the TOS and special teams stunk but) this was bad coachingā¦.on one guy. Arod.
you werenāt the only ones⦠![]()
You think thatās what heās thinking? LOL! 8-1 as a true freshman and heās not NFL material. How do you come to that conclusion? It would have been a better situation to come here and be the backup for a year to Retzlaff. But, not sure it would have been better for BYU. Iām confident it would not have even though Jake is doing well at Tulane.
fish⦠come on. How can you say such a thing?
Iāll tell you why! because a lot of us have been saying the same thing for a few years now. I donāt remember which game it was but a couple games back I thought Arod was starting to get it, turn the corner sort of⦠and I actually gave him some props for the game he called. I got way too far ahead of myself and though he wonāt want to hear it (fernk) I knew a game like this last one was coming. Back to square one again and I fully expect nothing vs TCU. The offense may do something good but they are as likely to screw it up again so there you have it.
Like I said in another thread, I am so over the nonsense. We have a good football team but we are not A grade and I think everyone knows why. Please include a lot of us in your opinion of the coaching on offense, not just you and Tom.
Ya Know, I spent some time on the TTU boards after the game mainly because Raider_power was here, and yes, there was a compliment from Raider somewhere in the superior team complex rantā¦.. and there were MANY Raider fans who just ripped the TTU offense because BYU stopped them in the red zone 4 straight times. I mean, you would of thought that they had lost the game. I get it, Fans want perfection. I know in Basketball, I turned off the TV after watching 10 mins of the 1st half, Delaware, told my honey, holler when we catch up but I refuse to watch a team run down and throw bricks for 3s time after time, not when we could score inside on every possession. Was the game in doubt? nope, just canāt get on board with hucking up bricks.
Ran into this today. College Football QB Power Rankings: UConnās Joe Fagnano matches Joe Burrow mark - CBS Sports
If Tulane ends up being that P4 CFP invite, Retzlaff, who comes in #6 nationally in QB power ranking this week, all of the sudden gets drafted. (now, this is the authors opinion on ranking) I have to say, Retzlaff looked amazing in the Memphis game, 15/15, everyone was raving about him. He wasnāt even ranked before that one game. And the dude can run, his true Achilles is his Judgement, he just spazzes out, completely forgets where heās at in the game, like picture a 3rd down, you have 4 yards for the 1st but they blitz you. Retzlaff would run and try to salvage a 1st by scrambling, get sacked, puts us out of field goal range, then you have to punt or take more risk. Super glad for him at Tulane, hopes he makes it big, gets all the girls he wantsā¦.yeah, low hanging fruit.
Bear on the other hand, has been our least sacked QB in years and it is because he has phenomenal field vision, and the quickest ball release of any QB in the big 12. Everyone is out there 3-4 seconds, Bear is a 2.7 or something. What Bear is-is a freak athlete. Hank was drafted and Bear is way ahead of Hank as a Fr. Bear is #19, he was ranked #9 before the TTu game. Fickle, those pollsters.
I smelled a fish with TT Raider from the beginning and I called him out on it. I thought he came across arrogant and annoying for someone who had invaded our BYU board after a disappointing BYU game. Then he later admitted that he partially was trying to stir up trouble to see how we would respond. But to his and cougarfansā credit, he thought our group was pretty classy so he is going to find a new team to hate.
Never say never. how many top tier college QBs donāt make it in the NFL and then youāll see ok or subpar QBs just kill it in the NFL.
Given the right coaching Retzlaff could be a back-up in the NFL. If a guy like Tyler Huntley can stick around as a back-up in the NFL I believe Retzlaff could as well.
For somebody to say Bachmeier is not NFL material after 9 games as a true freshman is quite a bit of hubris in my opinion. He has had a couple of rough games, so have a bunch of senior QBs. Carson Beck at Miami has turned into an interception machine.
If a consensus of NFL scouts say he is not NFL material based on his physical limitations then I would listen. A guy who rarely posts except to throw shade on BYU when they lose is not somebody whose opinion should be considered expert opinion. His opinion is no better than yours or mine. Maybe he is right but there is no clear evidence that he is right anymore than anybody else here.
I think Steve Young threw SIX picks in ONE GAME at Georgiaā¦.āExpertsā said Young was only a good runner, then he wound up in the HOF as the most accurate passer in NFL history (at that time). Ty Detmer had a couple stinkers early on. The āexpertsā said Ty was way too small. Well, he started a bunch of games in the NFL, had one really good year as an NFL starter, and a long and well respected career as a backup.
As Aro points out, itās way too early to draw any NFL conclusions about Bear. WAAAAAAY too early.
Lol, itās all part of the fun of being a fan. We all celebrate in different ways. I like going on other fans boards and seeing if I can rile up the masses after a win. Unfortunately I have no BYU friends in real life to get some digs in on so you make due with what you got. That being said you guys seem like an informed fanbase and Iāll be rooting for you guys to get the rematch this season. I think it might be tough against TCU and Cincinnati but you guys certainly can do it.
Agreed itās all for fun and has no eternal significance. TCU and Cincy will be tough games for us. Itās great to play November games that matter. I say BYU over TCU 24-21. Many BYU fans including me will root for TTech. Youāve got a great team and a classy program.
Your schedule will be a cakewalk these next two games. You should consider letting your QB heal as his mobility is a problem with his nagging ankle injury.
When I turn out to be correct, you can admit it, thatās fine. Jake has mental issues in processing the game and not making mistakes. He has good legs and his mobility will probably qualify him for the NFL from that standpoint. He is NOT nearly accurate enough in his passing. The NFL prizes accuracy and mobility and the ability to read a defense in real time. In 1 of the 3 areas - he qualifies. I doubt he will be drafted in the first 6 rounds. Maybe not at all.
Bear isnāt going to get faster as he matures. His speed isnāt NFL level. He does have a quick release but he will have to prove that he can read defenses and pass his way out of trouble when the run is shut down. He isnāt the prototype for the NFL but we will see how he develops! Maybe ARod will help him!? loll
Lookie Here, We have us a new Cougarfan. I am rather fond of Texas, most of us are packing heat at all times, we share many core values. Californians are fleeing their mess to land in Tx/Ut because of how we run our states. Let me ask you a question? Did TTU alum. love Bobby Knight?
I had a coach in basketball who was a lot like Bobby Knight. I loved him then and love him now over 49 years later. Just emailed him yesterday in fact. I sure didnāt want to make him mad but I never had to doubt where I stood with him and his expectations were always crystal clear.
