USD is a tough foe, BYU will be lucky to get a win

Great win tonight, on the road, SD showed why they are not ready to be called a contender yet, they will learn and do damage to other WCC teams and just may benefit BYU in the long run.

This win was by far the biggest lift to BYU and its chances to dance. I can finally breathe a little and say there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Did not want to say it before the game and jinx them. But to win on the road at a place with a 11-1 record had me convinced that BYU was headed down the same old path.
To be in the bracket opposite of Gonzaga is a big thing. BYU can beat any team in the WCC and if they get to the final game with Gonzaga, they have a chance to dance. I think the WCC is a two dance league

Were it not for TJ and his super human effort, This was a loss. Emery was an X factor. Seljaas hurts more then he helps and Harding is the better choice. We need hardnett to heal up for the war in post season. And lastly, SD was smart…when they saw BYU play man coverage, they played Baxter’s man far from the basket and Baxter is like Yeoli, he collects cheap fouls. Has to learn

Baxter has a lot to learn. After his one big game teams have figured out how to shut him down because he hasn’t learned how to create his own shots like Yolie has. That’s offseason and in practice work.

One thing about Baxter is that he can make 3 pointers. There was one time he was open in the corner and Cannon refused to pass the ball to him. I hope the coaches note that to Cannon. Besides that Cannon was an X factor and hit some big 3’s, finally.

Yolie needs to work on his left hand hooks and flips. He’s gotten real lazy on his releases. They aren’t close to going in. He would of had 40 points had he made those.

Free throws are a real problem. Guards missing free throws the way BYU does is deviating.

Baxter will learn that in practice, right?

Games change but fundamentals don’t. That’s true with coaching too. And that thinking that things have changed. You hear that in every decade. These are the 80’s, these are the 90’s, these are the 2000’s, these are the 10’s and blah blah blah. Fundamental things don’t change. Right and wrong don’t change, doctrine doesn’t change while administrations might and do change.

Hashimoro is a freshman and has all the fundamentals from previous coaches and practice. Baxter doesn’t. He was lost last night. Luke wasn’t. You could play Baxter 40 minutes every game this season he would still be where he is today. He has to work on fundamentals and develop more offense and that will happen in the offseason and in practice if, and I mean if he works hard at it.

On paper, BYU was not going to win this game and Rose is 0-50 when playing from behind with 5 minutes to go in a road game. Ken Porn gave BYU a 4.6% chance of winning after that sad 1st half. So why did we win?

Foul troubles for SDU, 12 steals for BYU (which I failed to mention in the breakdown) and 52% shooting from long range. TJ, Childs and Cannon won that game.

This is one of the dumbest comments, among many, that you have made recently.

Make that two dumb comments. His name is Hachimura and he is actually a junior. Few has helped him to develop into one of the top nba prospects this year. Baxter probably has the same potential but he won’t develop at BYU. Gee… I wonder why?

Is this why Baxter is finally starting and Luke is getting only a few minutes a game finally? Because Baxter is lost and Luke isn’t? Listening to your drivel, Luke should be playing big minutes and helping this team make the ncaa tournament. Just complete nonsense.

Don’t go there, not now. One game at a time. We need to get 2nd place and win that MONDAY WCC SEMI GAME. And we win that one and play in the Final, hopefully BYU play a close game but still lose to Zags. When comes to selection Sunday for NCAA that is where we wait, wait, wait and wait. We lose in WCC Semi then it will be NIT. Either way ncaa or nit.

Right now, LMU is next.

Not only that, he could still learn in games too. He needs to practice and play in games to develop and to get in sinc with the game. Trial and erros will make him a better player. I wasn’t worried about him being fouled out in last night game. Just wait, he will get better next time.

You just went there, hahahahha. I know, its hard not to get fired up about what BYU could do in the next 3 weeks. All year long we looked soooooo out of it. Coach gets some credit but TJ and Cannon controlling this team has been the big difference.

You do know that all of the “learn in practice” was tongue in cheek, right? Nobody learns jack in practice. You learn in real game experiences and work on it during practice. This idea of practice makes you game worthy was created by fat bottom fans.

Yeah you are right that I just went there. But, if selected in NCAA then we be in this “Tuesday Play In Game.” That is how it is when you are in Rec WCC League. Those western referees are a joke!

So, as a Junior, Baxter will look like Yolie. I stand on my opinions. They are sound with facts to back me up

The reason TJ has stepped up is because he had to with Hardnett’s injury.

Wrong. TJ plays much better when Emery is on the floor and involved. Those two play really well together. Also, TJ is getting more confident and is playing within himself. He was great last night.

It will help to have Hardnett back as he’s like Luke is inside. A good bench guy to play 5-7 minutes a half and provide some help.

Not sure Craig. The only effectiveness Luke has is when he fouls on defense. That is how he stops his guy. Outside of the flagrant fouls, opponents typically own Luke inside. He is not a good defender… or basketball player. He hustles and goes hard but that doesn’t mean he is good or effective.

Jim: You know the team better than me. If Luke doesn’t play, who else goes in as a 4/5? I know we could go small with Childs or GBax as the only big. Seljaas doesn’t work as a big, as we’ve seen. SD has a couple big guys and at least Luke is a big body that will battle with them.

Also, it hasn’t been mentioned on the board, but Luke deserves credit for diving out of bounds in crunch time to save the ball for us (on defense). Great hustle.

Yes, that is something that he will do. Of course anyone can do that, but I will acknowledge and give credit for Luke’s hustle efforts. He works hard.

TJ is doing most of the ball handling because Hardnett is out. That means he’s in position more to score and to get assists. So, I’m right.
I agree TJ and Emery work well together. The rest of the team has caught up and works better together as well.

Crash!!! That’s me falling backwards on the floor! How big of you acknowledging Luke for anything…

What do you mean it hasn’t been mentioned. I wrote several times. The force is with Luke. Colby Lee can play the 5. He should be ready next year with Yolie probably leaving. Although, it wouldn’t hurt him to play with BYU one more year. He still has many things to work on. He’s not close to the guy on Gonzaga, Hachoomura :hugs:
