What was going on tonight? It looked like almost everyone had the flu. Egor was 0-10 and Catchings was 1-8. Shot 33% from the field and 28% from 3’s. Our defense was slow and didn’t guard the 3 point shot well. Coach sat Egor for a long time. Baker was by far our best player tonight. Knell was close behind.
Nobody looked good. Yeah Knell hit 3 of 4 threes but he’s a liabilty on defense. Actually almost everyone was a liability defensively tonight. I sure hope Hall starts to play basketball soon. He hasn’t done anything to help the team this season. The rest just had bad games, might be BYU’s worst game this year and going forward. I don’t think they can play that bad and I would bet they beat Providence if the game was played in Provo. Providence won’t do anything this year.
BYU is a young team still learning to play together. Kevin Young is a fantastic recruiter but he may be on a learning curve as far as actually coaching D1 Bball goes. Expectations were sky high and hopefully the team will come together before conference play starts. I hope we don’t have a reverse of the football season where expectations were very low and the team greatly exceeded them and we see the bball team underperform expectations.
I have watched nearly every BYU basketball game for the last 15 or so years. Maybe have missed 2 or 3 that I couldn’t get in tv, satellite, or streaming.
I tuned the game off midway through the second half. I think that’s the worst I’ve ever seen a BYU basketball team play. Our two supposed “1 and dones” and our returning starting PG COMBINE to shoot 2 for 24? That can’t even be real.
I’ve been a BYU basketball since Danny Ainge played. I’ve seen a lot of BYU games. I checked out for several years when we had 4 young kids at home so fortunately I missed the few really terrible seasons. But I’ve seen many hundreds of games and don’t think I’ve ever seen our team embarrassed the way they were tonight. We supposedly have multiple NBA guys out there and Providence just beat the brakes off BYU.
I haven’t heard anything but the way Demin was playing and the amount of time he sat, I’m guessing the flu is upon the team?
I saw lots of hero ball. Way too much dribbling and bad shot selections except from Knell and Baker. Fouss didn’t shoot enough. It was brick city tonight. But, it was for Cincinnati and Kentucky as well.
I’m hoping they will learn from it. I also think too much time between games didn’t help. And now we don’t play for another 8 days. Bad scheduling.
I thought that was why he brought Burgess and the Stanford guy on board, to help mitigate the issue.
Only one area they need to get more consistency is shooting. That was really bad. A lot of it was too much one on one. Pass the ball around and get open shots in rhythm.
Also, reported today on BYUSN, Egor has a tweaked knee and they put a sleeve on it in the 2nd half. That’s why he sat so much and shot poorly. Here we go!
I think Young and his staff are great and they have brought in some great talent. Expectations were sky high and he is being paid a lot but we are going to have to be patient. By the end of the season this team may be dynamite but it looks like there are going to be some growing pains.
If you watch games, KY does not do a lot with Burguess, His go to guy, coaching wise, is Tim Fanning.
