What is the ratio of Dems to Repubs?

We’ve also been told to be involved with government and don’t sit back and do nothing as well. I guess there are 2 types of Members. The group that would rather lay down their lives without a fight or those stripping warriors that saved the passive parents.

We can also warn our neighbors that there is a choice with our elections. The Democrat leaders have shown they are now supporting the anarchist and far left of their party ignoring the Constitution. A vote for Democrats will be a vote for that wing of the party. I’m sure all Democrats aren’t leftists. But, they also do t appear to be opposed to the take over attempts. So, there really is only one Party that is in opposition to the apparent dismantling of our Constitution and country. The Republican Party and Conservatives.

Not really sure what you are agreeing or disagreeing with, but it’s really no matter. History is history and it’s as good as a :crystal_ball: crystal ball-always has been and always will be. Although I am right as you would have it, of Floyd or Ron U, I admire them for the work they are doing, they are difference makers and they are certainly level-headed as is the quorum of the 12 and the Presidency of the Church. It’s vital to see events as they really are, not to force them into what you want them to be. Few will ever grasp this concept, but I agree with your assertions that these are difficult and dire times and it would behoove all of is to pay attention to retaining out God given rights

Perhaps you are misguided regarding the fact that we are in a situation where we must choose between the lesser of two evils. While I perceive that the Republican party is more aligned with my belief system I also recognize that they are clueless on so many other things. From my perspective Trump is the lesser of two evils so that is who I voted for. The fact that dems and the media denigrate and attempt to destroy him at every turn is appalling to me. Unfortunately that is how things work in this country today and people who think they have it so bad really have no idea how much worse it is in the rest of the world. I’m not sure what those people want or expect.

No one is perfect. So, the lesser of two evils isn’t really there. On one side, Democrat leadership supports big controlling government and not the 1st or 2nd God inspired Bill of Rights. On the other, Trump and the Republican leadership mostly supports those rights and small government. It’s pretty clear what is going on.

I deliberately left of political leanings because even here in Utah where it bleeds a deep red, inner city schools are usually the last ones to get any type of improvement.

If you go to an affluent neighborhood school where parents have $$$$ their schools always seems to have the latest and greatest things, while the poor neighborhood schools barely have enough text books for the students.

This is a fact, I work in the education field and see the data daily…

Having said that, I also know it is worse in the big cities for two reasons (education wise):

  1. AFL/CIO unions have taken over the unions in those cities and it is near impossible to fire a bad teacher.
  2. Lack of funding to improve the infrastructure of the inner cities as well as under funded educational needs.

There are many other reasons that minorities do not have equality (notice I did not say racism was the reason) in these cities, but the point is that leadership in big cities has failed in their policies.

you know this is a “Mormon Myth” and never was actually said by any General authority, right?

The quote was said to come from Joseph by someone who said he said it, but he did not divulge that until almost 40 years later…

What we do know Joseph comment actually was:

“Even this nation will be on the verge of crumbling to pieces and tumbling to the ground and when the Constitution is on the brink of ruin this people will be the staff upon which the nation shall lean and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction.”

(Joseph Smith Papers, LDS Church Historical Archives, Box 1, March 10, 1844.)

Just a little different understanding of the meaning of the comment.

Amen to this comment!

Too many times people wants to change the narrative to fit their personal belief systems.

When I learned history in High School, My AP history teacher explain how to study history this way:

History is written by the winners, if you truly want to come to a good understanding of history and it’s events, you need to read history from all viewpoints, not just one source.

Been doing that every since.

I think that is why I never was upset at some of the things brought up about Church history that many people were upset with, most of it, I already knew.

That’s you, I appreciate the correction, even though the meanings are essentially the same👍

I agree with a lot of what you said Floyd. I have worked in the public school system for the past 4 years and your comments are accurate.

On another note, everyone talks about systemic racism which I’m not sure is an accurate perspective. I think there are problems but I’m not sure they are race specific as much as people seem to want to portray them. Unfortunately there is this perception that these movements are getting what they want and it is because they have been loud, angry and violent. It hasn’t been because of any other reason. To me that is a dangerous belief.

I have an experience to share but I’m not sure how it will be received. I am not complaining or saying it was wrong, it was too long ago to worry about now. This happened when I was a student at BYU more than 30 years ago. I had a class called “recreation management” in the geography dept. It was an easy A as long as you completed all the assignments. There were a couple of football players in it as well. One of the assignments was to interview someone, who was responsible for hiring people, in a field you were interested in. I had serious thoughts about becoming a fish and game warden because I enjoyed the outdoors so much, particularly fishing. I made a phone call to the division manager of the fish and game dept. in SLC to interview him about job possibilities among other things. When I asked him about the potential for me getting a job as a fish and game person, his reply was - and I quote - “If you were a black female I could hire you tomorrow but being that you are white and male, you may never get hired”. I had similar things occur when I applied to colleges. Most of my experiences with law enforcement have not been great but I respect them and I know it is a difficult job.

That pretty much ended my desire to work for fish and game… I ended up working with my Dad in a civil engineering business for 30 years and for the last 4 as a part time para educator for kids with disabilities. I figure I was hired in that job because of positive recommendations and the fact that not many people want to do it. While I had great experience in the engineering field, i applied and interviewed for many jobs but was never offered any of them. I don’t think my profile being anglo, male and over 50 was what people were looking for or who they could hire.

I don’t believe I am racist but being anglo and male, I feel am maligned as someone who created all of the problems we face in society right now. I guess I am just really confused about it, in spite of my efforts to be a good person and treat others with kindness and respect, no matter who they are, what they look like, how much money they make, etc. I will always work to keep that perspective and approach because being Christ-like is ultimately more important than anything else.

You know this is a lot more difficult problem than it may appear. Most people, in my experience, fall back on a persons race or ethnicity, especially when someone does something you don’t like, whether it’s black, Asian, Latino, Jewish-whatever or even whites. My own parents even had tendencies towards racialism, mostly as a bi-product of their generation. I can see your point about “race” favoritism, but most likely a lot of ethnic groups couldn’t get employment because of their ethnicity and if they did it was a type of labor that left many in unmarked graves. I have seen those graves with unknown written across the stone. I would like to see myself as totally unbiased, but I’m not that much of a Saint. I think everything becomes an overreaction-trying to make things right, which sometimes is Pandora’s box. It’s a process that begins with education and work, much like Floyd and others are doing. Compassion of a Ron U and level headed ness of a Fish😉. It won’t be solved overnight, but people have given their lives for the right of equality or justice, so it’s well worth the battle. But it most certainly isn’t as plain as day what the appropriate answers are, but collectively, hopefully it will someday be resolved

You aren’t understanding. Have you heard of the 1619 New York Times Project?

Brainwashing our kids. The thing is, this kind of re-education about the history of our country has been going on now for 20 years targeting young female minds. You look at the people tearing down statues and rioting and most are young women. When they are asked why they are doing it, they cannot be taught a thing. When people try, they get more angry and emotional. Check and see if it’s happening in Utard.

I agree but I wasn’t attempting to make a point about anything other than sharing my experience. I think there are so many biases and generalizations we all make. I believe it has been worse for people of color and that is why I try hard not to be bothered when I have an experience that could be construed as bothersome. There is obviously no easy answer or solution.
