Why WVU never was a trap game

1 WVU has the worse offense of any big 12 team and yet they will still make the big dance because of their big wins early on but WVU has the 2nd best D in league and top 5 nationally. BYU has the best O…for 15 minutes WVU imposed its will on BYU, then they exploded.
Score 19-17 WVU with 5 mins to go in the 1st. Then the next 25 mins, BYU poured in 60 points, I mean “WHO does THAT?”

2 Foos had a career night 20-10.

3 Demin looked much more calculated, KY said he was pissed before the game, Had his 2nd best college game stat wise. but the real story…

4 Hall simply plays teams like a fiddle and Foos is the perfect sidekick. His step back 3 is a back breaker. He can drive inside and dish to Foos/Knell etc. or take the shot.

5 Loved Bakers game, best form from long range, but that Jordenesk jumper had the announcers singing.

6 43 rebs to their 32 and 52% shooting vs. their 33% sealed the deal

7 Terrible FT shooting. 14-22 is pathetic, church ball is way higher and these guys can’t improve?
If BYU loses to anyone going forward, it will be because of this one stat…

8 Knell stunk it up out there tonight, moving screens, 3 TOs to go with 1 basket. Stewart needs more minutes, unlike Knell, Stewart is a great defender.

now on to ISU. Going to be a battle, this is for seeding and #4 in the league. I imagine that BYU has jumped a seed or 2 in Bracketology. 3 weeks ago, BYU was out of the Dance, Two weeks ago, BYU was a 10 seed, then last week, a 8 seed. I imagine come Monday, BYU is a six or seven.

About the ISU game, In the past, I feared for BYU on road games and the fact that shooters have lower %s then at home. BYU does not seem to suffer much on road games, two of our highest 3 point totals were road games. With Hall getting his game on, he has been unstoppable along with Foos on the inside game and Halls step back 3 is a killer.+

Agree with most of this. #4 on Hall. Jim and I text back and forth during games and we both asked why Hall drives in the lane so much and gets trapped? Yes, he sometimes passes to Foos. He rarely travels to score when he does. Mostly gets trapped. Surprised the refs don’t call more 3 second calls on him. I’d like to see him go up strong and put some jump shots and floaters in.

#8. You just don’t like Knell. Mag did a great job on defense and did nothing on offense. Why? Because the offense we ran was like what we ran for most of the first part of the season. That offense doesn’t show Knell’s strength with 3 point shooting. It doesn’t show anyone’s for that matter. Second half we made some changes that flowed into shooting more 3’s. He did make a key rebound and put back shot in.

I’ve said ad nauseam that Knell needs to hit 44+%to mitigate his mediocre at best defense. So I can’t complain
I will only say his 20 minutes per game is WAY too much. 12 on average is about right. If he’s hot and steller defense is not needed then maybe up to 18 minutes
If a total bust like last night - about 3-4 minutes is plenty. Yes agree, play Stewart more
Hard to believe but he is 40% 3pters. ELITE defense.
He and mag make it difficult for the star guards in the league - i don’t know if we’ve ever had that before

Knell at 44.2% for season

The players and coaches feel different and are totally in control of the time in which players are to be on the floor.

When I say, “Hide” Knell, what has that got to do with liking someone?
I should be calling Knell, “Jazz Hands” because that is the only way Knell defends. Well before the season began, I posted that you can Hide Knell in a long defensive minded team. Everyone here a cougarfan knows this except you, Hopper. I have showered accolades on Knell when he has a big night, to be honest, BYU would not of won the Kansas, AZ, possibly ASU games without Knells big 3s. He is a team captain, KY trusts him so where you come up with Liking someone, IDK?

Hopper, you should be on CNN, they make up any stat that suits their argument. Why not just say, “Knell was ineffective last night”. He is a big time 3 point specialist who can’t defend a paper bag. Teams scheme around Knell. Anytime they need a open look, the ball goes over to Knell’s side of the court.

You do likewise. Why do I have to agree with your assessments 100%? On other points I agreed with you.

Fish, stop making sense and logically make your observations and opinions that everyone else but one on this board gets.
Can’t you have some integrity at least on Sunday?

At least one has the guts to question the holy one of Cougar Fan.

but not against the best home court defense in the league, and we just saw what WVU did against BYU for 15 minutes to start the game. I would be shocked now that ISU has their offensive tools back and humming if they don’t provide a better defence than WVU and a better offence too.
ISU will not be a trap game…but just another in the continuation of the most important game of the season, which essentially every game has been since KY and the team have faced since the debacle at Utah.

ISU is favored and ranked ahead of BYU. A win would vault BYU into 4 or 5 seed nationally but a loss would do little damage.

BYU beat UWV by bullying a undersized team inside, ISU is not size challenged, therefore;

The key to this game is who can hit 3s.

If they can win at ISU it would be the biggest win of the year, and maybe the last two years.

You are correct, Really want to see if we can go on the road and compete with a top 10 team.

Exactly. I want to see the team compete and make it a game… no blowout losses. I’d be okay with a blowout win but that might be asking too much considering the situation.

Just compete and play hard and see what happens.

So, any news you’ve heard on Catchings knee?

chatchings is likely out for the ISU game. He could go if he was absolutely needed but will sit this game out.

And steals…ISU is much better at steals than BYU…admittedly KY has been pulling Egor much quicker with his wild passing, but ISU is great at stealing the ball while BYU has some amazingly high game with passing to the opposing team…

Turnovers is going to be the key.
