like I said before there are some players that shine in practice but suck in the game, and then there is the opposite guys that suck in practice but excel during the game. People said Doman couldn’t hit dirt sanding in the middle of a field, but come game time he was unstoppable. I think JR is the first one. there is no pressure in practice and he excels, but come game time he gets the yips.
I disagree with Casey. we have a stellar defense allowing us to control the game with long drives.
once again I disagree with him. One we have no running game. that means teams are going to rush all night. two the Oline isn’t good enough to hold for a long play to develop, and three his yips.
What we need right now is a leader, a mobile QB until LJ comes back and most of all a game manager. all of which Bohanon has.
I think we will be pleasantly surprised with the RBs we have today. I agree with your first point about ball control and our defense. It’s all about Retzlaff and how he plays. QB is usually the most important player.
I guess it could be close if BYU is uninspired and Wyoming plays real well. There is no question Wyoming will play hard but I don’t know if they are good enough to beat anybody outside the bottom rung of the Mountain west. They only put up 13 on Idaho at home and 7 against ASU. They have nothing on offense. BYU has what looks like a stellar defense. It could be close but BYU will have to turn it over a few times for Wyoming to get much of anything on offense.
Watching Utah vs Utah St. without Rising Son, Utah’s timing is off with little Wilson. So, see if BYU can get up for the game and be on in the offense.
Ah-HEM. So far my prediction is pretty spot on. 42-10 is pretty close and predicting Bohanon handing off for the last 5 minutes. That‘s near clairvoyant.
But enough about me…
I hope the rest of my prediction is 100% wrong and Retzlaff is not fools gold and does not have 4 TOs in a close loss to KState. There were some very good plays by JR but some head scratchers too.
I still think Kstate will put a ton of pressure on him and cause 3 turnovers instead of 4 but the defense will get a turnover and BYU wins a close one because they’re at home.
Btw- Retzlaff and Issac Wilson had very similar games against very similar poor teams sooooo still lots for JR to prove. I still think Bohanon is the best chance for BYUto win the conference.
Agree Kstate is a VERY good team
My three factors for a BYU WIN:
Home field - add 4 points
A top twenty D. - Holds Kstate to 20 points and scores one TD and sets up offense for chip shot FG
Offense gets 2 TDs. 1 by Retzlaff and one by GB in relief of a pretty ineffective and 3 TO Retzlaff.
And going to the game!
After three game this is what I see with JR and Roderick. JR is a subpar QB, and struggles to run the OF against the speed of a P5 DF. he would be a decent QB in a Mountain west. Roderick is the same, he would be an ok OC in the MW, but in a P5 conference, he doesn’t know how to develop a winning OF, because he doesn’t know how to develop or see talent.
UA has a good QB and they shut him down. KS will pressure JR all night and he will have 3TOs in the first half. Our DF will give them trouble until late in the second half when they brake because of all the 3 and outs. my prediction 34 10 KS. 7 points coming late in the 4Q.
prediction for the rest of the season
stick with JR: 4 and 8 we barley beat Houston.
stick with JR until after Baylor: 5 and 7. team is broken we beat Kansas and Houston
Bohanon now or for Baylor: 8 and 4 and we beat Utah.
Spot on. Those 5 yards off target passes will be intercepted by superior talented defensive backs that JRjust can’t get used to. Also his runs will be much less effective because of the reaction and closing speed of defenders. The successful chunk plays will be few and far between. Need to throw a ton to TEs and Robert’s and especially to Lassiter who was frustrated last week. He lost NFL money last week and knows he needs touches.
