Zach/Isaac Wilson

Is that why ARod got fired not once but twice by Utah? Even after Whitt brought in Dennis Erickson to help ARod learn how to make calls? WOW!

I expect a coach to “learn from his mistakes”, which ARod does not seem to be doing.
I expect the Offense to improve as the season goes and at the end running like a tuned engine, which BYU has not done for three years!

A lot of time the “Transferred Senior” is because moving on to enroll in some “Masters” program. Maybe that is why Nelson is doing it.

I heard about Wakley but not Nelson. Something needs to change with portal rules so a bunch of guys don’t exit prior to the bowl game. It hurts the team.
Pretty selfish of these players to leave before the season is over especially when they are playing. Somebody shouldn’t be able to enter the portal until the entire season is over. It is too disruptive to teams.

NIL needs to change so these kids are locked in with a team for an entire season, including bowl games. It should be a contractual agreement and if they break the contract they don’t get paid for the games they miss that aren’t due to injury.

We are playing a team with one of the top passing games in the country and two guys quit before the bowl game. Two starters no less. It stinks. This isn’t the old days where these guys were real amateur athletes. They are now paid.

Editing post. Take it back about Wakely. At least in part since he is a walk on I thought he had earned a scholarship. He should have one and some NIL money. I still think players should not be allowed to enter the portal until the entire season is over (including bowl games).

This may be due to the fact that Wakely played the entire season this year WITHOUT being on Scholarship, I think Kalani needs to fix that NOW!

But I agree with you about the Portal and NIL $$$$.

This may help with the NIL:
4 New Federal NIL Bills Have Been Introduced In Congress

Wakely I understand since he is not on scholarship. I don’t understand why Nelson would be leaving. The timing of these announcements sucks for teams counting on guys for bowl games.

if they go into the portal can they not play in the bowl game?

I agree the timing sucks.

good points, ARod is but he is not a great coach.
My reasons
AROD does change “in game” and exploit defense’s tendencies.
AROD certainly does not evolve as the season progresses. he becomes too easy to defend late in the year. Why did Kansas and ASU explode late in the season? When was BYU’s last dominate offensive output? you would have to go back to UCF in late Oct.

Coach Prime: all of my players will be playing in the Alamo. Nobody’s sittin

So Wakely is not on schooly? He will be and should be coming back after they get that one fixed.

Players can play even if they are in the portal

Fade passes can work and did with Zach and Hall. But, with Retzlaff, he just doesn’t have the consistent touch. Maybe a year more with Beck in California, he can learn to throw it. I agree about ARod…Chemistry is essential with winning programs. Not only the players, but the coaches. For whatever reason. Detmer and Sitaki didn’t match well together as coaches. As people, they probably do.

I hope they do play. I understand guys testing the waters but leaving until all the games are played needs to change. This quitting in mid season, or anytime before the season is over, for a players team, needs to be put to an end. Just make a rule that the portal is only in the off season. That seems like a fair solution. Guys on teams who aren’t in bowl games should be able to announce when their season ends. For others it should be after their team’s last post season game.

I thought Dallin Holker quitting in mid season a few year ago was deplorable. He was getting more receptions than any other tight end on the team at the time. He could have left after the season if he still wasn’t happy but he had a tantrum and quit mid season. There needs to be consequences for that. These college kids got the paid professional status they were looking for and need to act the part. NFL guys don’t get to sit out games ant their whim and quit mid season without consequence. They certainly don’t get to opt out of playoff games. Why should a college kid get to opt out of a bowl game? I applaud Colorado that all of their players are playing.

I think is doing the Graduate transfer to maybe enroll in a Master’s program at another school.
Doesn’t make sense because his younger brother came to BYU this year.

Completely agree! Players should sign contracts and if they break them and leave before the end of the entire season including playoffs and bowl games, they should have to not lose some money, but they should have to sit for a year.

If I was on the team, I’d tell them take a hike and not play…

I still haven’t heard anything official. Where are you getting this?

They do sign contracts; it is called a “scholarship” with a one-year clause!
So, if a coach at the end of the one year decides that a player does not fit his program, and revokes his scholarship, should the coach be forced to pay a fine for breaking his word to the player?

Based on:

  1. Nelson is a Redshirt Senior with one year of eligibility.
  2. Most Graduate Transfer are for academic reasons (entering a masters program).
  3. It is very common for Senior to transfer for this reason. Think Bohanan, he entered a masters program.

Nothing official but speculating as too why he might be doing this. Because his D-line coach has a history of putting people in the NFL.

Why do you make comments that aren’t about the topic? Players sign a contract which means within context of the topic, the two players in question should be disciplined. Money taken from them and/or not be able to play the next season. Have to sit…

like it

And now he made a NFL team, caught his first pass last Sunday.

Why?

    • Typically One-Year Agreements: Most athletic scholarships are awarded on a year-to-year basis..
  1. Bowl game participation itself isn’t a direct part of the scholarship

  2. You CAN NOT FINE Wakely!, he is not on Scholarship, his wife is paying for his school expenses! LOL

Please have a sit… Hopper because you are clueless as EVER on how scholarships works!

What we are saying Floyd, if you are truly capable of paying attention, is that the scholarship and NIL should, should, should, should…be changed to include post season play. Uggg…

he was just responding to your statement with what actually happens. not sure why you’re getting so upset. I found it informative.

why should they be disciplined? one guy is leaving because he is moving on to do his Masters. the other doesn’t have a scholarship and wants to see if he can get one. college is expensive why pay for it if you can get it for free. you may not like the rules but you can’t discipline someone because they decided to do what is best for them with in the rules.

We are clearly talking about those on scholarship and taking NIL money. That leaves one out. The other still has a signed commitment contract. Just have to start his Masters in a few months is all. It can wait.

My big complaint with Holker is that he quit in mid season rather than leaving at the end of the season. It seems to me he wasn’t happy about getting 3-4 touches a game like he was getting the last few games before he left. I guess he thought he should be the primary target over guys like Nacua. So he sat half a year because he wasn’t the go to guy. I look at Keanu Hill who is the number 1 tight end this season and he gets about 1 reception a game. If I remember right Holker’s last game was against Oregon and he got 5 touches which was a lot for a BYU tight end in recent years and then he quits right when it looked like he was going to be utilized quite a bit. I never understood it.
