You need to update your information on China…
Chinese people have more economic liberty than most anyone in the world…massive growth rates for more than a generation prove it.
China has more active Christians than any other nation on earth…and the USA is the only nation that is remotely close…
Yes the Party has a problem with competition that gets serious…and the government’s definition of serious is seriously warped.
but the beam in their eye…
Fans generally are clueless on what is happening behind the scenes. It’s true at the high school level and true on the college level. A coach like Rose doesn’t care so much about himself as he does about his players and their lives. The reason why most of us have enjoyed watching this season is because after several years of what we thought was hero ball, we see a team that players together more than in years past.
Payton looks like he’s all in for the team on the bench. How do we know that he isn’t just doing it to irk the coaches? A comment was made by Steve Cleveland a couple a weeks ago about bench person or persons pouting because of playing time. And that he wouldn’t play anyone like that either no matter what. Something has been going on since last year.
How many in here have actually coached at a level that if you don’t produce you find yourself in the fan stands? You start with 12 or 14 premadonnas? Not anything like youth leagues where everyone plays. How many have coached where you are in charge of cutting kids from the tryouts? Telling kids they aren’t good enough and they have to work on parts of the game and try out next year?
We are arm chair coaches and should realize we are simply guessing on why PD isn’t playing more. The person other than the coaches that knows is PD.
What planet are you from? No one believes that from a Communist Country. Do you know what communism is? It’s totally against religion and they tolerate very little. And, what do the people actually own that makes them capitalists? You do know that capitalism and socialism are diametrically opposed to each other, don’t you? Unbelievable…
That’s absolutely true. It fell apart a little bit but overall it was a good showing of a new direction. My hat is off to Rose for that. Keep it up, keep developing that system and we’ll get there. In particular we just need them to run it faster with less thinking about it and that’ll come. It will be necessary to build in a few other counters but from what I can see it’s not a bad first year for a new install with a young group.
Sure, there are lots of unknowns, but that doesn’t mean I have to extend the benefit of the doubt to the coaches and not to PD. Rose said he had to stick PD on the scout team because they didn’t have guys and that meant he couldn’t play him. My guess is that’s because Rose would rather play Luke at that time because it fits his notion of basketball should be played. Luke does what he thinks that position should do. But admittedly that’s just a guess.
What does the “scout team” even mean? He was put in games. But there was simply something else going on.
In practice, he was assigned to imitate the other team’s strategy. Which means he’s learning to do something entirely different and he did not have the same practice time devoted to learning that weeks game plan as say, Luke did. So while he was put into games he was unfamiliar with the game plan relative to Nix or Luke. Which is, I suppose, a logical argument? But I would’ve voted for using someone else in that role. But whatever. Also, I believe this explains why his playing time mysteriously evaporated even though we had injuries. Rose wanted to put in someone who knew the game plan and because of the limited practice PD got, he wasn’t the best choice from that perspective. Still…
And this is entirely based off of taking Rose for his word in his postgame comments the other day.
You think he’s feeling the heat a bit? If he is, I would expect Dastrup to play more in the NIT.
Wooden didn’t worry about what the other team was running. He made sure that his team controlled the flow of the game. If everyone comes back and starts out healthy we will be deep. That makes it easier to practice everyone on both offense and defense. Emery will be back and hopefully the team takes 100,000 3 point shots in the off season. That was a disappointment.
That’s really hard to say…maybe? I don’t think so, I think he feels a little exasperated. He wants to win and he really wants to beat the zags. and St. mary’s. So I think he’ll go looking for ideas.
I do believe in commiting to a strategy (the one you would use to beat the best team on your schedule) and be a master of it. I think one that some coaches understand better (especially vs fans like us) is that execution beats scheme as the long as the scheme is sound. Of course wooden had phenomenal talent.
If we come back lethal from 3 and deep we could finally take the conference. St. Mary’s loses a lot of talent and I think the zags could be beat if they lose a few guys.
I don’t get what you are implying here. You make distinct comments but then you try to link them or something. You think PD is cheering on his teammates to irk the coaches? You stretched a long way for that one. Then you comment that bench persons that pout would not play for Cleveland… What does that even have to do with anything we have talked about?
Lastly, why can’t you just acknowledge that leaving PD on the bench for most of the season was a huge mistake. The team improved in their “team” play and that was great, but PD was a major part of that when he played because the team was so much better.
You make some really good comments and then you start going all over the place and ruin what you said.
How about the idea of more PT for PD?
Is that a novel concept to him? If he really wanted to “win”, beat the Zags and SMU, then why didn’t he do the obvious thing that would have given him the best chance and give PT to PD?
Lastly, I’m not sure why people keep thinking something is going to change for next year. Doesn’t BYU have everyone coming back? So why would he move someone else into a starter’s role or give PD more PT for example? He made his bed and now he will sleep in it. Nothing is going to change that I can see, other than the players playing more like a team…
He made a lot of changes this year. I’ll be watching if he continues looking for a solution. And staying the course…
“We will be Deep?” You think we would be deep next year but we haven’t seen that happened yet. So 2018-19 will be special which I hope so.
I always make good comments. It’s in my nature
Plus-Minus ratio…
Do you know what that is?
When I post, Cougarfan is winning the game. When you post, we fall behind.
I have a great +/- ratio, yours is in the double digit negative range.
Not the last game and you didn’t watch the SM live. So, your post is fake news
Well I have lived in China…For that matter, I have posted on this board while accessing the internet from China…
You could ask the Jimmer if he has enjoyed the fruits of their capitalism…or had any problem finding a place to worship in China…I certainly have not…
That you haven’t updated your idea of China since the days of Mao, yet feel free to opine on the subject on a basketball discussion board…
I shouldn’t have commented originally but speaking ill of anyone, be it Chatman, or a people, a nation…just rubs me the wrong way. Especially when the “facts” you write simply do not match reality…not opinion but reality.
Opining on your dislike of China, or Chatman, is fine…I disagree. But at least get your facts something close to reality please.
So true. I guess maybe I should change my tune about the LP3 debacle. It will be hard to do but once the sting has worn off, I am willing to look at other perspectives.
A better viewpoint of life in China for Jimmer…and capitalism in China.
The NBA game also seems to be much more suited towards the offense-first perimeter player these days than it was back when Fredette was drafted.
Granted, size is a concern for the 6-foot-2 Young just as it was for Jimmer
One big difference is that Young is black and Jimmer is white. I know we ideally want to live in a world where no one sees race, but we just aren’t there. To me, you can only compare Young to other black players. I believe whites in the NBA are generally accepted, coached, defended, and refereed very differently than blacks. Just my opinion.
