BYU vs. Gonzaga Round 3

To be fair, I change my mind all the time because I’m wrong all the time. I try to extend that to everyone else.

That’s the truth. He showed up on the biggest stages all year. Rose said he couldn’t play him because he was running the Scott team… So that’s why he had so many TOs and fouls… He didn’t know where he was supposed to be!

grasshopper’s first name is Scott so I see this as a freudian slip. The “Scott” team wouldn’t include Dastrup because Scott thinks Rose is such a great coach.

Lol, woops. Scout team. Why couldn’t Lee or Worthington do that?

Here is what Rose feared coming true…The fan base loves Payton and as a coach, Rose can’t afford to have the fan base angry with him.

Dastrup was the only bright spot in the Gonzaga game.

Whatever that has to do with anything
Few won’t okay for 10 days so play his players as long as possible. It’s all the mindset he’s installing in his players.

Childs held his own. Bryant and Haws were done 18 minutes into the game. We needed true offensive minded players to be in scoring. Dastrup has that potential. I’ll say it again, we missed Emery. We needed another scoring guard.

Every time the guy gets in a game for more than 3 minutes good things start to happen. The +/- ratio for the team when he is in a game goes way up. Like I said, I don’t care if the guy lays on the ground on defense, (which by the way he is no more a defensive liability than the rest of the team and is actually better than many) the bottom line is that the team plays better and is more successful when he gets significant minutes, meaning more than 5. What is there not to love?

Rose’s excuses for not giving PD more PT don’t exist. There are none.

A lot of nba people didn’t like Jimmer and the excuses were weak. The guy belonged in the nba, much better than most bench players and had plenty of games where he scored a lot of points. The reason they love him so much in China is that he is humble, good natured and he scores a ton of points in a country that still values quality human beings. If he had gotten some tattoo’s, had a criminal record or fathered a bunch of kids outside of marriage, he would be adored in the nba and this country.

There weren’t many calls against either team. There were a few missed on both sides. So, the refs had nothing to do with the flow of the game. We were right there for 18 minutes and then we hit a cold spell shooting. They didn’t.

China values human beings? No liberty. No religious freedom. They massacre people who even question the communism and the government. The US is going in the same direction. Obama’s taught us the Democrats want more intrusive government, less religion, less liberties and that the US has been and still is a horrible country. The Chinese, as well as much of the world, want to see the US more socialist/communist with whites being punished!

I agree with this post. The problem was other than Dastrup, there was no one else ready for prime time. And not because they didn’t get their shot. Bergerson simply wasn’t ready as a freshman. He was an after thought recruit. Rose wasn’t their to recruit him when he saw him play. We really missed Emery.
The NIT should be played differently with Dastrup starting in Luke’s place. While Luke defended well, he gives us no offense if he can’t hit the hook shot.

You just don’t get the big picture of an entire season of college ball. Dastrup wasn’t ready early on and those early games are a must win as well as any other game late in the season or league play. What I’m expecting is Dastrup will work hard in the off season and early next year on his defense. Then he may get the opportunity.

Why do you keep saying this? Is it because he is so bad offensively that you think he is good defensively? I got news for you, he isn’t! I have made a specific effort of watching him play defense and I am not impressed at all. He is off balance, he gets burned a lot in man on man, he doesn’t help that well, etc.

So please quit saying he is a good defender or he defended well. Nixon is a good defender, Bryant is a good defender, Childs is okay, Haws is not very good. Hardnett is okay.

Sorry, but I am going to have to call a spade a spade, just like I see it.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE DUMBEST POST YOU HAVE EVER MADE. DO YOU EVEN WATCH HALF THE GAMES YOU POST ABOUT? YOUR UNDERSTANDING HAS REACHED AN ALL TIME LOW. HONESTLY, I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU WROTE THIS. IT IS RIDICULOUS AND MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

IF THERE IS ONE PERSON HERE WHO AGREES WITH ANYTHING YOU HAVE WRITTEN IN THIS POST, I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT.

It’s a good thing you were a referee. No, Luke played a good defensive game. He has only one offensive move and that failed him. Of course, most of the other players just didn’t have it last night.

The only dumb thing is the idea any coach would take losses early on to hope he would win later on. Every game is a game that could keep you out of the NCAA tournament. Just try to understand us coaches

Oh yeah, I get it now. You mean all those early season games where Dastrup made such a big difference that had he not played it might have been a loss for the Cougars? Like the Utah game for example.

Okay, I understand now. Here I thought you were trying to tell us all why Dastrup DIDN’T play in many of those games, because he wasn’t ready according to you. What you were actually saying is that it was a good thing he DID play in those important games that BYU won early on… the ones they might have lost without him.

So you are in agreement with the rest of us finally that it was a huge mistake to not play him more because he obviously was one of the more talented players on the team, had a big +/- ratio, had the highest 3 pt.% and the fact that the team was actually much better when he was in the game.

Well, I’m glad you finally opened your eyes… it’s good to see that you are finally showing improvement after years of opportunity. :astonished:

And your comment about “any game” is spot on because BYU was so close to making it into the ncaa tournament. Just one or two or MAYBE 6 more wins and they might have made it.

I would say coaches are conservative by nature and tend to look for the sure thing. Which is probably why Rose focuses on winning the 20 games because that means he has a job. And it could explain his reluctance to let young players with a potentially high ceiling play and make mistakes. He’d rather have Eli shoot 18 times because that’s a known quantity. I understand that and frankly, it stems from the fan base. If the fans were more patient and could see a grand strategy unfolding over 5 years to ultimately culminate in a phenomenal year…they might be more accepting of a 19 win season early on to allow for a PD or Ry (or a jimmer) to get minutes. It’s a small investment with large dividends that show up a season or two later.

TL/DR: Coaches are skittish because fans are short-sighted.

“I am referring Hopper Comment above”
So Hopper saying Luke does well on D’s and should be playing more. And PD playing poorly on D’s and need to practice? So, why Luke is doing lousy on shooting and PD is fantastic on his shooting, RB, A, STL? Does not make sense!

right on Dew! Hopper doesn’t make sense!
