BYU vs.NEVADA... here we go

Whoa whoa there Hopper, you can’t just drive over to our side of the parking lot. You have NEVER said that Rose needed to do things differently as to his handling of the bb team. You have always said that the younger players didn’t deserve the court time because they just weren’t good enough… this year you are appearing to learn from your misjudgments of the past. Haws and Emery were great defenders and shouldn’t come off the floor in favor of the Chatmans of the world! If you repent … which means you have to tell us you are sorry as part of the repentance process … we will forgive you! But relapses will happen and Jim and I and the rest of this board will have to keep an eye on your behavior … like walking into the Bishops office with a Bud Light :bulb: under your arm …

I talked to Coach Hecker about the Nevada coach, here is what he said, “I got that kid his first job, he is a A$$hole, just like his dad.” after 5 minutes of how he couldn’t return any coaching favors, NBA coach says to me, “I went up and spent 3 full days setting up drills for his teams until he got a basic working idea of how to run a team and that puissant couldn’t come through with me when I left the NBA” Went back on his word. Yeah, he teaches his kids to play dirty.

In terms of Haws, Talk radio says, “in High School, you have never seen a kid that could do what TJ could do on the floor, He was light years ahead of his older brother, had the same smooth shot but with the ball, he could create his own shots, something his older brother never could do BUT TJ has never progressed and certainly looks at hitting the weights as an option. In terms of growth, looks like he is regressing”. His stats don’t lie, he went from a 39% three to 33%, hopefully this was just a bad game and TJ is better, we will see.

The kid that seems to much better is Hardnett, he kept BYU in the game for the most part.

Hardnett played very well until the end of the game where fatigue set in because of carrying the team. Childs wasn’t there because of stupid fouls. Yes, stupid fouls and he did fouls them. Left his feet on a pump fake and hacked the arm of a 3 point shooter. Hopefully he got that out of his system.
As the season goes on I believe we have other players that will improve a lot and contribute greatly. Baxter, Lee, Emery and #44 (what’s his name?). A couple others will fill in nicely and Rose will have no choice but to play deep every game.

And this is THIS YEAR! The younger and new players will have to play more. Worthington will have to see less time. By the way, what happened to Andeas?

Andrus is history. Bad knee that wouldn’t heal up. Too bad because he would have given us some size.

He had good potential too.

Hardness is a good player, can get to the rim, and stays in front of his guy on D. Haws is a cheater on D. He gets a few steals but he won’t/can’t stay on his guy. He can’t stay in front of anyone because they are faster than him, or they simply push him out of the way. Tyler came in skinny and by his junior year was slim but was ripped. We all remember how every team in the league held, bumped, and shoulder rocked Ty every time he’d come around a pick, but because he changed his body, he was able to run through those guys. TJ looks skinnier than he was in HS. I am very disappointed about that. Haws looked COMPLETELY physically overwhelmed, from start to finish.

Harding and Baxter, on the other hand, look really athletic. Harding has a frame that makes me think he will be ripped out like a WWF superstar in two years, and Baxter? That boy has a 7’+ wingspan and can jump outta the gym–his body right now looks too much like Sharp from a couple years back, who could also fly, but Baxter has more bulk and if he hits the weights he can be a dominating physical presence. He will have some sweet high-flying swats coming from the weak side to help this year!

Good post Tom and thawk called out the hopper, as he should be called out!

I would love to see Rose actually willing to play younger guys but I don’t know.

We will see.

Statement of the year right there…Play yur talent, not your upper-entitled classmen. Have Lee and Baxter ready for Tourny time and use Worthlesston only when you have to.

Where would we be with Dastrup starting this year???

Dastrup didn’t want to have to work hard so he left. Yes, he would be starting. But, he didn’t want to contribute to BYU. So be it. Another kid not willing to work hard to get playing time.

Did Dastrup tell you he didn’t want to work hard? Or maybe he got frustrated that every time he actually got to play, he outplayed Worthington, but was still stuck to the bench. Last year, outside of Eli, our 3pt shooting was terrible. People forget that PD led the team in 3pt shooting at 43.3%; Eli shot .415. Haws shot 30%–as in, “Son, you are not allowed to shoot 3’s anymore.” But Haws did whatever he wanted to do while PD–one of our best offensive weapons–played 8 mpg. Terrible.

……and all I could get out of the coaching crew was, “He just doesn’t have a high motor”.
What does that mean?
Dastrup wins the Utah game with his timely 3s, something that we had missed seeing all season long and remained siting on the bench while Brick man, Worthlesston, who is 6’ 10, and I have NEVER seen a single dunk in his collegent career, plays ahead of him. It’s a mad world (Tears for Fears reference there)

I am encouraged when I see how Rose readily went to Baxter, Harding and Lee in the Nevada game while W sat, maybe, just maybe an old dog can learn new tricks.

He didn’t care for Dastrup and found himeslf in a quandry when the guy won a few games and was a difference maker in many others, in spite of his inexplicable lack of minutes. Fast forward to the present… Rose doesn’t want to lose Baxter, Harding or Lee so, as painful as it may be to Rose, he lets Worthington sit and gives the youngsters more court time.

It has only been two games so far… not a pattern at all, but encouraging nonetheless.

After Dastrup returned from his mission he was out of shape and nothing changed his first year back. What was stated by coaches and players he was a clown. Now, his second year he worked harder. But, he was a year behind. I would have liked to see him play but he chose the easy way out. Glad to see him gone and go Baxter!

Nobody knows the inside details of what goes on with the basketball team like you do. It is truly amazing how much you (mistakenly think) you know.

We see this with the BYU basketball team all the time… favoritism and preferential treatment towards certain players who don’t perform at a level necessary to make the team better and help them win games and poor treatment of players who can help the team win and improve.

As long as BYU wins 20 games, finishes in 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in the wcc and makes it to some low end, post season tournament, coaches get extensions.

You are content with mediocrity and that is why you are such a big fan of the team.
