CFP Rankings Bias and $$$

I have maintained for years now that higher education is a scam. I won’t go into the details of why but there are enough obvious aspects of the system that leave no doubt as to what it is.

Hey, it happens in k-12 as well. Often times too many administrators making the big bucks. Teachers unions are for the politicians and administrations.

College football: CFP committee, it’s time to give the gift of fairness - Deseret News

How many of you are genuinely interested in watching the CFP for the “national championship”? I am not. In what has been a difficult year (I saw that Duke basketball has cancelled its’ season (women’s) because of covid) I was hoping for something interesting that would give me a good reason to watch the end of the college football season. The same teams are in the CFP every year and really they are just farm teams for the NFL. How is this interesting? Likewise, the Heisman voting has followed the players on those teams… once again, not interesting. There will be a few people other than the fans of those same teams that are interested but I think college football is going to lose a lot of fans they might otherwise have because of their bias and selfishness.

In a world where everyone is supposed to be trying hard not to be biased, racist, bigoted, etc. the college football situation is worse than ever.

Not interested in watching and don’t really care who wins the title or the Heisman trophy.

Don’t care and won’t watch.

there is a national championship game?

Didn’t know, Don’t care

I don’t watch CFP. Same old Alabama vs Clemson year after year after year. The only ball games (any college sports) I watch just BYU. BYU got snubbed before playing against Hawaii back in 2001 this BCS nonsense and disrespectful to BYU. Year 2020 if BYU had won against CCU and go undefeated this year, no way BYU would get in this NY6 or CFP. Ohio State doesn’t belong in there.

I like to watch good football. So, I’ll probably watch it but not buy any of the products advertised.
It’s like the movie business. I like to watch some movies that come out. I don’t care who the actors are and what their political leanings is. I’m there to watch the movie.

If anyone watched the CC vs. Liberty game I want to restate my belief that CC is not that great of a team as they showed very little against a Liberty team that is also not that great. Watching the end of the game and some of what was going on proves it. I don’t know if it is a 2020 deal or what but I have witnessed some of the most nonsensical decisions this year. I wonder how much this year has affected people’s ability to think straight.

After a very subpar performance (and dumb loss I might add) vs Liberty I can only imagine what would have happened to CC had they played a good P5 team in their bowl game…

What a wacky season and year it has been.

They did play a good team. Two teams that scored a lot during the season. They were well matched. Both on offense and defense. They took down the mighty BYU ranked team as well.

Now, to the CFP, you are correct that they are most likely a group of corrupt democrats who hate those that will not conform to the fascist norms. All because of $$$. It most likely won’t change anytime soon since so many want to try fascist socialism that has a touch of capitalism in it. Like Nazi Germany did.

I would agree CC was not that great of a team but a good team. Probably the best team BYU played this year for whatever that is worth. They were as good as Liberty but barely lost to them. Everything went their way in their other close games but not so lucky against Liberty. They lost a probable touchdown in the first half when the officials missed an egregious pass interference penalty that would have given them the ball first and goal at the 2 and they had to settle for a field goal. If they had gotten that call probably no overtime and they win. It is hard to win every close game. Liberty beat two average P5 teams and barely lost to a good P5 team so they were good but not great.

I think both of those teams were good. Probably just outside the top 25 good, or maybe barely top 25 at best, not national powers, but the best of the G5s after Cincinnati and BYU. BYU lost to CC because they took the game on very short notice. it was a gamble and it didn’t pay off but probably their only chance to make a NY6 bowl if they had won. I have no doubt that under normal circumstances BYU would beat either CC or Liberty by 2 touchdowns or more. We don’t know for sure because they didn’t play Liberty and didn’t play CC under normal circumstances but there is no question in my mind BYU is better than either of those teams.

Lets be clear. BYU lost the CC game because of toooooo much respect for an average fr. QB (CC) and a crappy game plan to defend the run. If our DC had a lick of imagination or balls, BYU would of jumped on them and made them throw the ball. BYU diced up UCF because we jumped on them, got up 2 TDs and they had to abandon the run and play into BYU’s strengths.

Still miffed that BYU lost to CC, not because of anything they did, just 100% on our Whimpey DC. Would it of gotten us a NY6, prob. not but it would of put a lot of pressure on these crony thieves.
Notice how the P5’s protected themselves by having BYU play a G5 and CC play a G5. Nothing will even change.

I agree with your analysis of our defense. But I also agree with Aro that we didn’t have the time to prepare to stop CC’s offense nor prepare to take advantage of their poor defense. It was a gamble and we just missed it by that much!

I had a premonition that we would lose to CC. It was not a good set-up from the beginning. I admire BYU for play anywhere anytime, but it was really not a good set-up for them. It was a loss that could have cost them 9 million dollars depending on the Fiesta Bowl payout and a top ten finish. There is not a team that was ranked ahead of BYU that would have taken this game on the road with a two day turn around. So IMO, it was a little reckless, but it’s over and what might have beens or excuses are useless. The BYU offense was the best I have seen in a long time and Wilson was a major star-but at the end of last year he was just one of three looking for the qb job in 2020. He put in the work to lift his game to another level, so hopefully one of the 3 potential starters next year will do the same, because a lot of talent is returning.

I don’t disagree with that but I still think that if the game had been scheduled about a week ahead instead of on Wednesday evening with one full day of travel BYU still wins even with a questionable defensive game plan. The offense wasn’t nearly as productive as it should have been either. Regardless of all the hand wringing (justifiably so) over the defensive game plan if BYU had scored on more of their limited possessions than they did we wouldn’t be talking about a loss and we might have been talking about an upcoming NY6 bowl. The offensive production was not on a par with previous games. There were too many mistakes and missed opportunities. When a team hogs the ball like CC did you better be scoring on most of your possessions. CC controls the ball and runs the option well but they are nothing special defensively. That was obvious from watching the Liberty game. My opinion is that defensively BYU was way too conservative and offensively a little out of sync.

It is true that even with a win over CC there was no guarantee of a NY6 bowl game but at least there would have been a shot. A playoff spot was out of the question no matter what. Even with no NY6 there should have been an undefeated season and that is something BYU has done only once overall in 1984 and only one other time in the regular season in 1979. It would have been great going into the bowl game 11-0.

People really forget that 11-1 is spectacular these days. The idea that our opponents weren’t as good as those years we did go 12-1 or 13-0 are sadly mistaken. Most of the teams in the MWC were the same as the teams we played this year.

I think the schedule had teams comparable to the teams in the old WAC and MTN West conferences but BYU usually had 1 or 2 or more non-conference games that were against what you could classify as P5 teams when they were in those conferences. I think BYU was very good this year. I just wish they could have played the schedule they originally had before Covid hit.

Has anyone heard from Zac Wilson if he’s publicly stated he’s entering the draft?

There is no doubt that BYU would of played differently had they been given the time to prepare. Look at the antihalation of UCF. I think BYU BEAT the spread in every single game we played with exception to CC. I think we get them back in a game next year??? WE will see with prep time and minus Wilson, who should be long gone, taken 2nd behind Lawrence in the first round

Speaking of Wilson, My inside source says that he is 100% gone with one exception: If the Jets pick him, he will stay at BYU one more year. Now, it would seen to me that if a player hates a team and won’t play for them, a sign and trade is the way forward. Denver, Niners, Steelers, Atlanta, Wash, are all teams that need Wilson in a bad way. As I see it, Wilson separated himself from everyone but Lawrence, who is going to be taken #1.

OSU’s qb was plug your nose bad in the Northwestern game and Trask for Florida has been a little erratic. I think Wilson voted #8 in the Heisman was criminal, and the fact that the CFP mafia would not pit all these G5’s (Liberty, CC, BYU, UCF) against each other is just a way of saving face and potential losses to their precious Power 5 cartel

There is no way if the Jets pick Wilson, that Wilson would come back, because he can’t come back.

There is a deadline for players to redraw from the draft prior to draft night.

It the deadline is passed, they can’t come back to college.

Just to clarify his options.
