Dance Watch-BYU

Yep I agree-2 must win games

Today would by a good win.
BYU 86
GU. 75

Well you are certainly optimistic, but Gonzaga 86-BYU 65

You are right. We aren’t doing a thing I said we needed.

It’s ok they are playing hard and still in the game at half

Ya, better 3 point shooting and less turnovers and we would be leading. See what happens in the second half.
Will Yolie play?

No-but he will vs Pacific😋

If we need him. He has to be able to shoot. Can he with that two finger rap on his key shooting fingers?

Imagine if we could hit a rash of 3’s…

BYU is slowing down on defense. This could end up a 30 point loss if we don’t go on a shooting run. Defense has to pick it up. Reacting slowly again.

Bottom line-BYU needed to dominate a stat to make up for rebounding disadvantage, hopefully it was going to be 3s-they failed to dominate any phase-hence the loss. BYU can possibly beat this team at home, but once again they need to shoot the 3 well and have few turnovers. It was closer than the final score indicated. With Child’s back-I’m still optimistic about the rest of the season. Two key games coming up-critical road games and a healthy Child’s. Looking good

Agreed! We still miss too many free throws too.

These 2 games, @Pacific and @SF will determine if BYU’s Dances. Right now they are a solid “In” but as SMC proved, if you lose to anyone other then BYU-Gonzaga-SMC in the WCC, the committee will not be kind.

SMC messed up big time with Santa Clara and Pacific losses. Those 2 losses pretty much undid their solid pre league wins. SMC in now a bubble team. Utah State also choked their chances away with MWC losses. Boise State’s win over USU surprised me and makes BYU’s loss more palatable but it is still our worse loss of the year. Houston is by far our best win.
Right now BYU sits at a 8-10 seed.
Here is what the Committee looks at:

BYU in the WCC has little wiggle room, you can only move up by beating a GU or SMC and really lose when yo don’t beat everyone else.

I believe BYU was Houston’s only home loss this year

I do think that BYU will also be judged on the Childs suspension and our W/L with Childs, could be wishful thinking

This is one of many ranking sites. They mirror Ken Pomeroy in many ways.
Pomeroy ranks BYU #28.
T-Rank BYU #32

Interesting stats:
The big East does not have the usual 8 or more entries, they are way down with 5.
A 10, down with only 2
MWC has only 1, SDSU
P 12, up with 6
SEC, way up with 7
WCC, up with 3 right now.

Pomeroy has BYU today as #18. Pomeroy is as influential as ESPN BPI or the NCAA poling themselves.

I truly think that our seeding will go up because this 10 seed business is lagging far behind what Statisticians are poling. It is Blue Blood bias we are seeing here, to be sure.

Some other things to consider: BYU’s schedule in the WCC was mid conference weighted whereas, both SMC and Gonzaga’s schedule get tougher from here on out.

As I look at the 4 best teams in the WCC
Gonzaga has 2 tough road games; @SMC and @BYU
BYU has one tough game; at home Gonzaga
SMC has 3 tough games; Gonzaga, @Santa Clara, and @Gonzaga.
San Fran has 3 road games; @BYU, @Santa Clara, and @Gonzaga.

Tourny seeds should be #1 Gonzaga, #2 BYU, #3 SMC, #4 SF

I think the SF game will be tough. Hope Toolson’s ankle is ready by then. Keep him out of the Portland game.

I agree the most likely loss is Gonzaga but BYU’s conference defence is so bad any game on the road is significantly harder than the stats show it should be.
