Wishful thinking. Have you ever had a full luxation dislocation? I have. 4-6 weeks. It’s his shooting finger.
Yeh sources say 1-2 weeks-which the Pacific game would put him two plus weeks since the injury. 3 league losses is almost a surety for the two seed going into the tourney. It’s fortunate we have home games coming up. I still like our chances for finishing ahead of SMC. I like SMC for 4 losses-2 to Gonzaga and one to BYU and maybe another upset that would give them 5. Maybe it’s wishful thinking
I’m hoping that Childs is in full beast mode by the SMC game. Pacific surprised everyone with their win over SMC…but when you crunch numbers, SMC fouled out 3 starters and Fitts got very early foul trouble. YOu can blame that on Fitts trying to guard Tripp. Fitts is SMC’s Childs inside. That loss should of never happened.
San Fran took down some good teams early on but has just splatted in league play. They still have talent at guard and are always very tall, the very thing that can hurt BYU. I have no clue why they are struggling right now. They took out Santa Clara with ease this week. SCU only got 27 rebs for the entire game.
SMC- you say 5 losses. feels right but…….SMC can take down Gonzaga at home. SMC leads the nation in 3%. They don’t play a bad possession but that have 2 weaknesses.
They are not that big
if Fitts or Ford have a bad night, they are toast.
Yeh Gonzaga isn’t invulnerable-they were better defensively the last two years, but they are as good outside as SMC and much better inside, but one off night like they had against Michigan and they can tumble to either SMC or BYU. I’d take Few in a heartbeat over Bennett. I just have a tough time with him-looks too smug. Hey ice fishing is good this year-nice fat rainbows-just have a tough time standing still🤪
SMC lost to Santa Clara in Moraga. Two losses in wcc. I guess smc is not good this year or wwc gotten better?
Anyon still believe 3 wcc in ncaa dance? I don’t know but we haven’t seen one since 2012 or 2013.
It will be two, but which two-Gonzaga and BYU? Cougars hold the keys
right now. Get Child’s back in time for a Pacific and things look good. Home loss against SC -devastating for SMU-too bad Randy:wink:
SMC is in Trouble, they may be out of the Dance picture as we speak. They have 2 bad losses in League, one at home now. After a Home game with San Diego, BYU faces 3 tough road games. By far the toughest stretch league play. Til Childs gets back, BYU can’t afford a bad loss. I would not play Childs in the Gonzaga game and look to the Pacific game. They could be tough for BYU without Childs
Childs finger is ready to go as soon as the stitches come out and they can fit the finger with some sort of brace. The injury was on Tuesday, 5 days ago, wounds heal in 8 days or so. He was working that thing before the Portland game, I would be real surprised if they let him in on the SDU game but you can tell he has Gonzaga on his mind. I will see if I can get in a practice this week.
Here is more on Childs sprain
SMC missed a ton of shots in the last 5 minutes of the game, SCU made 5-7 and caught SMC with Vrankic’s putback. Did I say, SMC is in big trouble. They just don’t have enough fire power.
How about SMC with 2 unexplainable losses? I can see the loss to Pacific, they snuck up on SMC, But at home to SCU? They must of celebrated the BYU win a little too much. They still have 4 very likely losses, 2 game GU, 1 BYU, 1SCU and a San Fran at home is no sure thing. Bennett has to be freaking out.
Shooting hand and full luxation. 4 to 6 weeks. Another year that might have been.
This week’s polls are out. BYU was back up to 3 votes in the AP poll, but still no love from the coaches poll, even though St Mary’s had 6 votes. I was curious who was doing the voting this year. I looked, and Randy Bennett was right at the top of the list. What a joke. He is really not willing to cede that #2 position in the WCC to BYU. Yes, they beat BYU in overtime, but did with out BYU’s best player, and BYU was in the road.
I think the NCAA should take all the politics out and make it simple. There are 32 leagues in division 1. So, the conference winner and the conference tournament winner go to the NCAA Tournament. If it’s the same team, choose the 2nd place team either in the league season or the 2nd place team in the tournament. That’s it!
The team has 13 games left, of which only 4 would count as bad losses. But any loss drops the team to a tie with SMC in conference standing. I do not know what the standing ties breakers are in the WCC but not dropping in to a tie in conference is the key for making the conference tourney championship game. Which given the softness of the WCC is the only way the Cougars will make the dance.
We are being projected right now an 8 seed. So, we have to not lose to anyone but Gonzaga from this point out. And that’s going to be tough.
SMC has 2 bad losses in the Rec League. BYU has 0. That is pretty much all that counts when the NCAA is looking at who dances. If you go back to SMC’s loss at home to Winthrop, there are 3 bad losses. BYU still has 0.
BYU could afford 1, everyone has at least 1 bad loss, but from there, the ground gets shaky.
The WCC is a much stronger league this year too. That has also helped us.
BYU’s competition for an invite to the dance is not exclusively SMC. The dance invite committee only peripherally sees the conference membership. The committee does not look as say well the WCC is stronger this year so we give that conference x number of invites. The committee looks at team’s records.
What matters for BYU is that it mauls every potential bad loss (3 of the remaining games), win at least 1 preferably 2 of the St Zaga games, and win and it does not matter how much the other six games.
If Yoeli gets back in time to matter, and I’m not sure how much that is, then the fact that with him playing the team has only lost 1 or 2 games. Of course, assuming that such becomes reality.
curious youtube advert, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wJAa-i1_jQ, but some interesting points that align with some of what the Pope is doing.
Well tonight you will get a look at the cougar/zag matchup. I don’t look for a win in either of those two games-but win all the rest and BYU will be in the tourney-no ifs or ands. It’s going to be difficult but doable
Next week in my opinion are very important. Top tier teams in the WCC and Pacific beat SMC. They are away games as well. The next 3 away games will be tough. We need to start the games better than we have been lately.
