Dance Watch-BYU

Lol and Louisville and West Virginia go down tonight

Are you sure? I don’t think Mika wanted to play for coach Rose. Someone said go. You aren’t getting anything here. Now look at him.

Yeh I’m sure-Mika wanted to go. He was getting huge minutes at BYU with every chance to prove his worth. Nobody wanted to see him go or drove him out

Are you sure? You have that in writing from Mika? He thought he’d get better coaching in Europe and make to the NBA that way. Bad move…

BYU’s current NET is better then anyone on the 6 seed line and better then anyone on the 4 seed line. Our Power rating is also better then all 12 teams ahead of BYU except for Ohio State. There still is a lot of bias going on nationally

Just how much does Seeding matter?

actually, quite a bit

Tom Holmoe who has served on the big dance committee has the best take on it I’ve seen in quite awhile.

Take care of PU and then a triple bye in the WCC tourney

There is a lot of fluidity going on around Seeding this coming week. If Byu can get by St. Mary’s tomorrow they will probably lock up 4 seed. I didn’t catch the St. Mary’s game but it must’ve been epic between Ford and Scott. I’ve always been concerned about teams that are used to the gym because of their Previous games whereas higher seeded teams may be rusty. For a child’s stock and Byu’s dance prospects I hope we are sharp and hitting our threes

The KPI, https://faktor.ddns.net/#/ has BYU at a 7 seed.
Kenpom has BYU at a 3 seed
https://extra.ncaa.org/solutions/rpi/Stats%20Library/NET%20Team%20Sheets%20-%20March%208,%202020.pdf

The NCAA’s NET team sheets have BYU at a 2 seed.

So currently probably a 5 seed with two good wins away from a 3 seed.

As ever, the only real chance to move up is to win.

Eight more games…

Today’s game is important for the best seeding. Hope we can contain Ford and Fitts. I saw Nixon was participating in shoot around this morning. If he’s not ready save him for the Dance in two weeks.

Conference tournaments are all about seeding for the ā€œBig Danceā€ unless you are a bubble team or clearly won’t make it without winning the conference tournament. BYU was projected as a 5 and may drop down to a 6 or 7 so the loss isn’t that big of a deal since any match ups between 5 & 12 seeds through 8 and 9 seeds are generally competitive. Typically as a 5 seed all the way down to 12 you won’t draw a team you can’t hope to beat but you can also be beaten by anybody in that range. Lowers seeds winning in that grouping aren’t really big upsets. I start to take notice anytime a seed that is 13 or lower beats somebody in the first round.

Personally I would like to see post season conference tournaments go away. They only help the undeserving steal bids from teams who have an overall body of work more deserving of tournament consideration. Everybody has about 30 games a year to built a tournament resume so why the need for conference tournaments? Of course the answer to that is money. At least the WCC seeds teams in such a way that it is nearly impossible for a bottom feeder to win the conference tournament. They would have to win 5 games and the top two seeds only have to win 2.

I agree with the tournaments. But they are big cash cows. I saw on TV that there were few people there for the earlier games. I wouldn’t mind a two game tournament with the top 4 teams. Maybe a double elimination format. That would bring in more fans for those days. And, it would be more fair as well.

Hope not but would not surprise me if BYUs seeding dropped to between 8 and 10 as a result of the crappy game they played against SM.

5 or 6 is what those in the know

** Or it doesn’t matter what seed BYU are going to be in because maybe all sports going to be canceled because the corner virus and yes it is going to be really sad

It’s really sad to see the level of fear the media and politicians and religious leaders are showing. In the past, including Obama during the H1N1 flu, our President and leaders didn’t panic like this. 14,000 people died in the U.S. from H1N1. 30 some so far after 3 months. In 2009, by this time, 1,400 people had died. You think something is wrong? I do.

Now there is a call to follow the NBA with the NCAAs. I still think we are looking at these young athletes in a wrong way. There’s no indication that this virus is affecting this age bracket in the same way.
If the challenge to try and stop every new virus that pops up by ending society as we know it, what will that look like? Is this what we want? A brave new world?

I agree with Hopper. I say move life along in the normal way until more is known about the virus. But if we want to take this really seriously, let’s also analyze the 100k alcohol-related deaths in the US each year. And the 38k suicides. And let’s not forget to try to help Great Britain, where 7,500 people die every year from falling down the stairs.

Maybe if we cure the alcohol problem then there will be fewer stair deaths

I get real frustrated when so-called former experts get in radio and TV and say we will have a million deaths in the U.S. because of COVID-19. We have 40 now after 3 months.
