My concern is that LJ Martin is still not healthy, who do we have as Running back that could carry the load if Martin is not ready to go? Anyone has inside knowledge? it would be appreciated.
Second, I am interested to see how good or improved the O-line will be. A lot of talk going on, but nothing concrete as to their performance (media access has been limited so far).
I would love to hear more on how the O-line looks, because this season success rest on them. With the question can a couple of NFL has beens be able to improve the unit? Deseret News did a puff piece on the O-line, but it was mostly full of worthless coaches quotes.
Did you watch BYUSN today? He said he’s good to go.
As far as who else? Ropati and Davis are both 100% healthy and maybe better than Martin. They have some freshman that are really good too. Not worried about any position on this team. We are better than last year at the start of the season. The question is, are our opponents better too? If they are the same and just reloading, I think we can have a really good year with a decent bowl game.
so here is what Roderick said about the O-line in a DN article
Offensive linemen Caleb Etienne and Weylin Lapuaho and receivers Keelan Marion and Darius Lassiter are among the 2023 newcomers who figure to have significant roles this year. Roderick said Etienne, in particular, has made huge strides in the offseason and is “a talented guy who didn’t know what he was doing last year … and maybe lost his confidence when things didn’t go well early in the season. This year he knows what he is doing.”
Regarding the offensive line, which shouldered a lot of the blame for last year’s struggles, which starting center Connor Pay has freely acknowledged, Roderick said there have been signs of improvement under new OL coach TJ Woods.
“Now we got to go prove it in a game,” Roderick said. “I see improvement happening in practice and I will just leave it at that until we show it in a real game.”
Why not? Better than your sources. They talk to all the pundits concerning football and basketball. And, certainly better than your analysis. Now, go crawl back into your hole
Please tell us which positions is deeper and improved? Especially since the team has only been in fall ball for a week!
we have some new faces who have talent, but they are unproven in game experience.
We were told by Sports Nation, BYU coaches and players all during fall camp last year that BYYU was the best and deepest team we have had at BYU history.
Well, as ARod put it in his article " “Now they (players, coaches, etc.) has got to go prove it in a game!"
I like listening to Sports Nation, they have some good commentary and asks some good questions, but at the end of the day, they are paid by BYU and therefore, will color their analysis to make BYU seem better than they are, last year commentary about the football team is prime example of what I am talking about.
They have the big name sports writers and analysts who are not paid by BYU on all the time. Including tel he ones ranking BYU low this year. Apparently you don’t watch all that often. The main cast members are objective with their analysis.
As to the team, you only have to open your eyes to who is playing this year and not last year. All positions are deeper and the starters better and more healthy than last year. Both lines are better and stronger. Also, more of them are more experienced and have played together longer. It’s probably why Retzloff has the edge at this point.
Because I do watch and listen to SN I know the full picture of what is actually going on. I’m not going to travel 600 miles to watch every practice. But, you listen to other negative people that really don’t know either what is going on.
you say that our depth is deeper. you don’t have to travel anywhere to bring the proof of that. remember just because you say it is doesn’t mean that it is. So once again I will ask for you to show your work and prove that our depth is deeper this year than last.
I’m not going to watch the interview or type the entire interview. You are being lazy because you know I’m right about what you and Twawk are doing. Nice try though. Let me know when you find the interview and read or watch all of it. Then all the other interviews last week and this week.
I can’t speak for Twawk because I don’t know him, but for me all I am doing is asking you to provide sources as to why you think the way you do, and they don’t have to be from SN. What I am asking is quite reasonable and not as a big of deal that your making it out to be.
what interview are you talking about? where would I go to find this interview? if I did find an interview is it the one your are talking about? no one know because you don’t provide any sources.
Please tell who is better this year than what we had last year?
Do we have better receivers’ group?
Do we have better Running back group?
Our O-line lost one person from last year and he was the only All American we had on the line.
So, please list the names of the players who you think are better and deeper.
I was only talking about offense; defense is for another posts.
Not really, you are being told what they want you to know…not what is actually going on.
For instance, it is reported that Ratzlaff won the QB position in the spring, but because of the injury of Bohannan in spring, they are giving him a fair chance to unseat Ratzlaff.
BYU always starts and finishes with QB. There has never been a season outside of maybe Robby Boscoe and Natty 8-5 season that BYU has been great without a NFL type QB. We are to believe that this season will be better with a very airent, yes, I spelled it right air-ent Retzlaff or rebuilt Bohanon.
With plenty of WR talent, the question is…can the Oline block and can a QB get the rock to these talented guys. Our running game should be good if…again, the Oline can block.
Hmmmm
