Too bad his conditioning and stamina is so bad, they can not keep him in the game…
Face the facts Jim, Dastrup is OUT OF SHAPE… so no matter how good he is, if he can not play 30+ minutes… he is not going to be on the floor.

have to agree with you there
also have to agree on this one
My beef with Rose is we have seen everything he brings to the table…as Sundance pointed out, Rose is a very good recruiter, not very good at developing his talent and does not see past the moment very well to get ready for the big games.
I don’t think the sky is falling…we are close to being able to take down teams we lost to big time in past years BUT you have to give Bennett credit…he has a senior class and this should be one of the years that he takes down Gonzaga for the WCC crown. As far as Few goes, He would contend in just about any league in the country so lets just get past the WCC vs. Mtn West for just a moment. Few would cake walk through the MW every year as well.
BYU is just too young and inexperienced to win it this year.
Lets get by the Worthington bias for a moment (I am as guilty as anyone). He plays our best big men minutes game in and game out. 3 for 3 in the Pacific game, look it up.
We all know his upside is a fraction of what Dastrup brings but then Dastrup just does not show he wants it. There are guys out there that are just not competitive I guess.

'08-09: 14-3 (NCAA)
'09-10: 16-1 (NCAA)
'10-11: 16-1 (NCAA)
'11-12: 13-4 (NCAA)
'12-13: 13-4 (NIT)
'13-14: 10-7 (NCAA)
'14-15: 13-4 (NCAA)
'15-16: 12-5 (NIT)
'16-17: 12-5 (NIT)
'17-18: 13-4
I love it when Wrubell twitters something like this, as if he has to justify and make us believe that everything is well in Cougarland. This year is different. The losses are to mediocre teams for the most part. The losses in previous seasons were to better teams.
It doesn’t mean anything.
Completely disagree. This may have been a valid argument last season but we have seen, on numerous occasions, what he is capable of. When a player is only getting an average of 6 minutes a game, that is hardly 30+… it isn’t even close. He is not “out of shape”. He has shown what he is capable of in games where he has gotten the minutes, yet Rose still insists on giving the big minutes to other players like Haws, Seljaas, Worthington, etc.
Dastrup does not have to play 30+ minutes a game in order to “be on the floor” and contribute. How about if we start with 10 or 15 minutes and see what happens? Oh… he has and has been very effective… even with less minutes.
I think there is a disconnect here. I don’t think Rose likes Dastrup very much. It is a personality conflict or something.
I understand what you are saying but there is an excuse for EVERY year. This is just the latest one. I’m tired of excuses… Haws is regressing, Seljaas is regressing, Dastrup isn’t developing… it goes on and on, year after year.
Compared to last year Dastrup is in prime shape. Rose even commented how hard Dastrup has worked to get in shape. Now Dastrup may not being caught up to speed on the defense, but being in shape isnt the reason unless you want to argue with Rose. He simply needs more time unless he is another of the heralded recruits that didnt live up to the hype
Agree. he is just another in a long line of players we have seen come into this program as a much heralded recruit, only to watch them languish on the bench and/or never really grow into the player they can be. If he isn’t “caught up” yet it is because he hasn’t had the minutes to develop chemistry and understanding with the other primary players on the team. That is the ONLY problem.
If I hadn’t seen it so many times before…
Just one more thing I want to add… Emery, Haws and others have had their opportunities and they were always allowed a multitude of mistakes and growing pains. Look at Seljaas, Hardnett, even Cannon… who all get lots of minutes regardless of their performance. Then look at Dastrup… I’m telling you it is a personality conflict. It can’t be anything else because Dastrup has shown he can play and make significant contributions. It is a problem with judgements, attitudes, etc. of Provo and BYU. Dastrup doesn’t fit a mold or a style or a look…
Grasshoppers comments about not doing it in practice or being out of shape are bogus.
you may be right. I sure pin down what the problem is. Dastrup came into the Utah game and pretty much gave us the W, follows up with a OK Portland game and then nothing. I will have to go to a practice to get the scoop I guess
Please do some investigation and if possible can you tell me I am dead wrong? I don’t want this to be the case but a lot of what I see points to it. Dastrup’s leash is way too short for a big time recruit that has actually shown us what he can do.
Listen… especially you grasshopper. I wouldn’t be yapping about this so much if the guy hadn’t done anything with his limited minutes or if I didn’t think he was capable of doing more. I’m not related to him or anything, no personal agenda here. I’m sorry, but there are no excuses left.
Okay, I’m done for now.
