It is the dead time of the year

100th post- time to give it up. Nothing wrong with listening to good advice and enjoying enlightening conversation. Nothing wrong with solely following the voice of the prophet and the 12. It’s each individual’s decision. I have learned from Buddhists, Jews, others Christians, and of course General Authorities, scoutmasters, coaches, teachers of all denominations and even socialists AND conservatives It’s an individual matter and nothing warrants criticism for whatever path a man chooses to follow. It’s a God given right. I would no more criticize Floyd for his path than I would you for being impressed with a speaker at BYU. Take your best shot-your day in court is coming so be prepared

Court for what?

Final judgement day court😉

This is why you are NOT Brooks… I will put money on the fact that he would NOT do what you say you would if somebody did something like you are accusing Floyd of doing (Floyd did not do what you said he did) because I am sure that Brooks is confident enough to understand and recognize the personal insecurities of others. Brooks knows that what he said is true and accurate. He isn’t going to get all offended if somebody disagrees with him either.

Now stop being so insecure that you feel the need to get after Floyd for something he didn’t even do. I happen to agree with Floyd and I really enjoyed Brooks comments. There ya go, it is possible.

I disagree. If Neil Diamond refused to go back to BYU because of rude comments about his hair, being made unimportant with contempt as Floyd did, I wouldn’t return. For what? To be told he has no self worth and should remain silent because he’s not a member.

Find one comment I made that said Brooks had no self worth or he should remain silent?

You are a liar Scott, because I never said either one of those things, nor did I reflect that idea in anything that I posted. I am really tired of you twisting what I say into some fallacy of your delusional mind and then “bearing false witness” against me Scott, by stating that I said something that I did not and yet, no one else seemed to believe your view… hmm… Take a clue Scott.

How do you know he did this? Is this another one of the faith prompting rumors that are famous down at BYU (Like Donny Osmond teaching the lessons to Elvis Presley)?

I know from talking to Neil Diamond roadie (I worked at the Delta Center one year where Diamond was giving a concert), that Neil Diamond is very particular about his fans having the best experience at his concerts. They work hours on making everything just right. Love his concerts.

The hopper reeled you in again! After awhile he is like the kid at recess that nobody will play with because he annoys and harasses everyone! If everyone would just ignore him when he goes into the argumentative mode of devils advocate … we would all be better off.

In post #70, I said this to Aro.
“So, everything has to be agreed on? Watch Arthur Brooks commencement talk. You will be enlightened.”

You then responded, “Is he an apostle of the Lord or GA of some sort? If not, then what he says is ONLY an opinion. I get enlightened by listening and following the Current Apostles.”

I think you need to study up on what “enlightenment” is and where it comes from. And, when you are given the assignment to speak to a group, especially at a commencement graduation at BYU, that you seek guidance from God to enlighten and help prepare the graduates to go out into the world to be successful and serve others. He did just that and enlightened others who were open to the spirit. He spoke no falsehoods. He praised the students. He praised the parents. He praises the school. He praised the Church. He praised our missionary work and our service to others. And he gave excellent wisdom on relationships with others in a world of contempt. The kind you are showing me.

But, without watching him, you immediately dismissed all that as unworthy of you and the rest of the members of the Church. If I were a non-member and said to you that our Prophets and GA’s speak only their opinions. That they are not enlightened. How would that make you feel? It’s called empathy. Put yourself in other’s shoes before you call them uninspired. Because if you are calling me a liar, you are missing my points and uninspired yourself. Your quotes above remind me of many members running around with their noses in the air saying, “If only he had the gospel in his life he’d be much happier and a better person.”
I don’t judge Brooks that way. He seems very happy and does a lot of very good service to others in a different way than you do. But very necessary in this world. I’ll leave his eternal future up to God. And, I still love you Brother :innocent:

Would we? Would we learn if we had no opposition to our thoughts and beliefs? Would we grow without being challenged? I think it’s you playing devil’s advocate and lead us around showing us good and evil without participating then taking all glory upon yourself. I just throw out what if’s and then watch grown adults heads explode

NO!, that is how you misinterpreted my comments… which really does not surprise me.

Actually I am the one that says this a lot… The prophet only speaks for the Lord when he is moved upon by the spirit or through revelation.

The rest of the time it is simply his viewpoint. This is where members like you go astray, you thought “Mormon Doctrine” was actually doctrine because it was written by Elder Bruce R. McConkie then a member of the Twelve. When in fact, it was nothing more than his opinion of his understanding of the scripture. That is one reason President Hinckley banned the use of it in Sunday School.

The only two books that I know of that is not canonized, but is revered as scripture in our church is Jesus the Christ and Articles of Faith written by James E. Talmadge. Both books were written within the walls of the Salt Lake Temple and both were nearly canonized during the 1920-30’s, but was not done.

Funny, that is what I think when you posts most of the time about church issues… You act so pious and righteous as if no one else has any truth, besides what you believe.

Second, I am a convert, from a small town in Utah where the members of the ward made it very difficult to “believe” in the gospel of Christ. I overcame their snobbery and joined the church. Why in heaven would I do what they did to me? NEVER! dude.

Yea, What can I say? it is slow time in sports for me…

Have you watched this year Baseball team? Pretty good.

Sounds like we really have a lot in common. I’ve never taken McConkie as Doctrine. But, as you said, you take the words of the apostles as enlightenment. So, I wouldn’t be too harsh on him.
So, we are two pius fellows hoping for a 12-0 season starting in 119 days.
I think you would enjoy Brooks opinion and find it enlightening

Joseph F Smith once said he didn’t think man would ever walk on the moon-opinion-not doctrine. He used to argue with Henry Eyring about evolution-opinion not doctrine. Even prophets have opinions that don’t pan out. We are all imperfect beings, doing the best we can, with what we have. If a man did all the Prophet and apostles told him he should he doing-they would be heirs to the celestial kingdom-would more does one need? The rest is entertainment

Joseph F Smith once said he didn’t think man would ever walk on the moon-opinion-not doctrine.

But did we?

He used to argue with Henry Eyring about evolution-opinion not doctrine.

And Eyring was wrong

Even prophets have opinions that don’t pan out.

Of course.

We are all imperfect beings, doing the best we can, with what we have.

Yep! Not Thawk though

[/quote]

Yep!

Well that’s it… grasshopper is helping us all grow!

LOL!

Like I’ve said before, the hopper is delusional.

Well I suspect we did walk on the moon as I suspect the world is not flat, and I suspect things are evolving as we speak and God is the master creator and scientist. That’s all I need to know! You can also read President Hinkley’s address on the Sweetwater river rescue and then read the corrected version by the historianial investigation conducted by BYU😉

So you think we evolved from apes? I would disagree.

Once again you are being ludicrous.actually maybe you did🤔

Well, do you?
