Kalani Got Paid

Obviously the bigger picture is more involved and complicated than either one of us understands or knows. If you think most people are motivated to become wealthy so they can help others then that is what you can believe. My own perception is that is not the case but I could be wrong. I don’t think most people are motivated to gain wealth by the notion that they will be able to help others… LOL!

Anyhow, that’s probably enough on the topic for me.

If Utah is so baaaad, why is Caly moving here?
Is it because we don’t have many homeless? Is it that we don’t allow them to camp on our streets, in front of our businesses? Do drugs in our neighborhoods. Is it because we are a right to work state that prosecutes crooks rather than tolerate them? In the 60s or 70s Caly was King , everyone wanted to be a part of Califoria Dreamin. but the dream is gone. killed by a few power brokers

Rather than arguing about everything you said, I suspect you are right. There are more calls for help than ever before. All of the “free and reduced lunch” kids around the nation almost all have cell phones. Even third world countries are now able to have internet and cell phones. School is more available now than ever before. The world sends billions of dollars and goods to third world nations on boats, planes and through the banking system.

100 years ago that never happened. There are thousands of aid agencies and people who volunteer to help people and countries around the world. Most of the Americans alive in the 1700’s and 1800’s would be much poorer than our “poor” today. You need to study history. There has been more wealth created in the last 60 years than the entire world generated up to that point. Yep, we need to make people pay taxes of at least 10 percent no matter what and keep from paying people not to work and setting up immigrants for failure by not having them with parents …… lots of foolish programs that keep people trapped and uneducated but we are making progress slowly.

Taking away wealth and telling people to be satisfied with not maximizing their work ethic or building a better world will not lead to success in this life nor I suspect in the next one either.

Because not everyone accumulates wealth to help others isn’t a reason to not allow anyone to gain wealth. Many of the wealthiest in the world do a lot of good with their money. Bill Gates, who I am not a big fan of, does tons for educating poor people and making clean water for most of Africa. Just using him as an example, how many millions of people has Bill helped with the advance of technology? He will give away his billions and the billions of other super rich. I might add that while I disagree with things he believes in, he is a lot better at solving problems than governments are. So is Munger, Buffet and hosts of other super wealthy. Trying to maximize your talents rather than burying them is a good thing to do. Then help others do the same thing.

You know why… politically this state is a complete disaster. The only reason any of the rest of us live here is the weather and the drought is just about ruining that. We are not in a good position here currently.

The ONLY way anyone makes money is taking it from others ……. Or loaning it to others. That is called the economy. Welcome to it.

Provide a good or service and charge for it. Or loan your money that you took from other people (they willingly paid you) for interest.

That is how all assets are accumulated.

You forgot about making some shoes in a poor, disadvantaged country for $5 by paying some kid 50 cents to do it and then sell those shoes in a rich country for $100. That is good business, has nothing to do with taking advantage of your fellow man, right? This is only ONE example, there are literally hundreds or thousands more… but that is how it works and I am sure our Heavenly Father is well pleased with it.

The shrinking “middle class” is the best example of what I am referring to. It results in a few people getting richer and more people getting poorer. That has little to do with a persons work ethic or effort and more to do with the latest method some wealthy person came up with to make even more money. We live in a world of misguided and misplaced priorities… look at the world of professional athletes, it is a perfect example.

And you forgot about the cost and standard of living in the third world country! Are you suggesting that the shoes not be made in the third world country and give no jobs to those people?? Makes no sense. Mexicans can come work in agriculture for 3 months on the west coast of USA and live for 12 months in Mexico …… with a way higher standard of living than they would have if they didn’t come work in the fields and orchards at $15 - $20 hr.

Without the rich “Nike” parent company those shoes wouldn’t have pulled Japan and Vietnam out of economic wastelands. Lots of countries start their economy by playing the manufacturing game. China did and still does. How do you think all the poor in the USA can afford shoes? It is a great idea for lowering the cost of goods and improving the quality of life in third world countries. Other than China no one is forced to work in a shoe factory unless they want to. Just an example since you brought it up. Maybe you should read “Shoe Dog” it would give you a taste of the economy in third world countries that manufacture shoes since you think it is so bad for poor people in other countries to have jobs that pay in their own currency.

Shrinking middle class? Not the last time I looked.

We all fell for it with we were offered a walmart vs. a local mom and pop. Everybody now works for 3 big companies.

Having been to 80 of so foreign lands and seen how average people live I am convinced that the vast majority of Americans have no idea what goes on outside of their fair land. This land, where even the poorest amongst us can afford a car. 6 billion people in the world do not have a car. 5 billion can’t even afford a bicycle.
With signs outside of EVERY business begging people to come to work after the retarded Covid $$ by our highly competent Pres. and his social climber VP. Americans are now waiting for that next free handout.
America is the example to the world of how anyone…anyone with half a brain can go out and become wealthy beyond belief, when compared to anywhere in the world, if they just go for it. NOWHERE in the world does that oppertunity exist outside of America. At no time in history has that opportunity been real for every citizen.
Caly was that beacon just a short time ago.

Now back to the subject at hand. For those who believe Michael Jordan was overpaid @50 million per year. He was waaaaaaay underpaid, he brought Billions with a capital B to the NBA. Sitake has made BYU into a football powerhouse again and that machine feeds every other sport at BYU with exception to Basketball (self funded) Whatever Holmoe is paying him is a bargain.

“Of course,” said Sitake, who reportedly talked about getting more funding for his assistants, and for player needs and facility upgrades, before ever talking about his own salary increase. “For the staff, and for the players, I think this (movement) is well-aligned with what we want to do. We have done it really well, we just want to keep doing it better.”
BYU football: Kalani Sitake’s contract shows BYU is willing to pay - Deseret News

As I mentioned before, Sitake is taking care of his coaches.

Done

Great post! Very surprised. I might add as usual that even many of the 6 Billion poor are much better off in many countries because of the U.S. experiment of Capitalism. Its lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic method of the past and will for the future until His Coming.

Exactly. Maybe you can explain the storm on the horizon for thawk since he can’t see it coming. I know of 2 younger guys with families who quit their private sector jobs to move to Bentonville and work for Walmart corporate, which I don’t consider part of the private sector anymore.

Likewise, where do you think all of the money for the infrastructure, rebuild america, trillion dollar package is going to go?

At least you and thawk agree on something finally. Maybe he should take note of that and rethink the bigger picture of what is happening and how it is a huge problem. Your comment about the misguided notion that many (how many, 5 or 10?) of the 6 billion poor are much better off because of the US capitalism experiment is so off base it isn’t even funny.

Please explain how U.S. Capitalism has lifted all those 6 billion people and how much better off they are. You can’t because it isn’t true or real. The only ones that are better off are the corrupt governments of those poor countries. You need to spend some actual time (like fish said) in an impoverished country and actually see how the people live, compare that with how the vast minority of political leaders in those countries live and then get back to us. Kinda the same thing that is happening here in the good ole USA as corruption is rampant in so many facets of our society and economy. I agree that a capitalistic society makes us all better off and that socialism is a recipe for disaster so don’t argue that.

You need a bit of a reality check and right here in your home state is a fine example of where you can find it. Look around, be observant, see what is happening… there is a reason so many people are leaving California. No more SP ward, no more VTA 4, shrinking away. Things aren’t going in the right direction and you know that.

Yeah, get your state in order and stop the hordes of Californians from moving to Utah, please? We are becoming a second California, here in the Salt Lake valley. Ugghhhhh.

So, how is Walmart a government business? I thought you were for the low income and the poor? Because, Walmart still makes it less expensive to shop at for many products. Some is which less than the 1.25 Store.

Where do you think the Church gets much of there money to use for the poor around the world? From Marxist 3rd world countries and larger socialist countries? It comes from charitable contributions from mostly people working in the private capitalist businesses in the U.S. Same with other large and small charitable organizations inside the U.S. And these organizations help 3rd world countries from agriculture and other things that lift the poor and give them hope and opportunity.

Next, the government entities involved with the poor and the needy comes from tax money from the private sector as well. Where capitalism has been used, the level of the economy has risen. China is an example of this. Ya, China’s economy is capitalism. Scandinavian countries are capitalists with a large social net of taxation.

2 loses in 4 games. Is Pope worth the extra money. Let’s see if Pope can get a WCC title or even make it into the NCAA tourney. What can he do about our lack of the bigs? He is a great coach, but his team now looks very vulnerable.

Lohner just isn’t a 5 man. Atiki is just going to have to be played more.

Walmart sells cheap crap and poor quality stuff and honestly on a lot of things their prices are not that great. They have run a lot of small businesses out as they take over, just like government has done with their over reaching permit nonsense, the development requirements that favor big businesses, the double dippers (govt. retirees that go back to work for government). The pay scale for Walmart is low and they control a lot of what goes on in everyday commerce. They are like Target, Amazon, etc. as they advertise low prices that aren’t really that different than smaller places, but the quality is lower.

You are like the frog in the boiling pot of water…
