Losing to TCU is like kissing your sister

BYU has lost 3 straight. They are in true danger of losing much more…the Blue Blood pipeline will dry up if we are not winning at a high level!!!

1 KY has got to figure out rotations, enough of this giving minutes to players who have not earned it. Two guys that KILL YOU when they are in together…Knell and Catchings…they don’t play a lick of D and teams just look for them to score on

2 Case in point: BYU was down 10 with 5 mins to go in the 1st, Mag comes in for Knell and LOCKS DOWN REYNALDS, BYU goes on a 16-3 run and ends the half 37-34. Then for some mysterious reason, we revert back to the same rotation that got us in trouble the 1st half. Reynalds is their do everything man and we take our true lockdown guy out, Mag.

3 TCU was not going to let Foos beat them, they doubled him every time he got the ball. so what do we do? We quit going to him when he should of run the offense through him and kicked out for open 3s, So much for coaching…not impressed

4 BYU out rebounds TCU by 11, 35-24, that is TCU for the entire game and we find a way to lose. INCREDIBLE

5 because of TurnOvers. we had 16-6. Our 2 Fr. accounted for 7 of the 16. Way to loose with the ball. In defense of EGOR, he made the passes, guys just fumbled the ball because they are not used to high pressure balls in tight windows.

BYU also lead TCU in shooting %. 48-42.

6 because TCU slowed the game down to the point that BYU was shooting way late in the clock, taking way too many bad shots.

7 Most of this is coaching problems: We have to play guys that can Defend and knock down shots. My Five:
Hall
Saunders
Mag
Foos
Demin
BYU is not even close to the team we had last year…quit giving minutes to guys who don’t deserve them.

let’s see, 37 points at the half. 67 for the game…does not work for me at all.

On D, all we had to do was guard the 3, that was it, this team is a mess. so to recap:
BYU dominated rebounding
BYU shot a much higher % from 2
and we still lost. this is a coaching error.

I agree that the coaching decisions are the issue. Not sure why you think Catchings should not be playing. He got in foul trouble in the first half and sat. All I know is that you sit the blue bloods and the next year blue bloods will go elsewhere. Bye bye Dybantsa.

Mags gives us nothing on offense. Guys went by him and scored too. And he founded them as well. I’m fine with the defense except I would like more pressure Outland go over the top on screens more. The offense stinks. The scheme sucks. Too easy to defend. Too slow to get started as well. Have players out there that can score.

I am beginning to wonder if coach Young is the right choice. When he tells the media people that doing this job is harder than he thought it was, well… makes me wonder.

Three straight losses!
The players seem lost or confused at times!
No real leader on the team!
Get leads and then it disappears because of dumb plays.

Am I missing anything?

BTW, what do you think of the new Wildlife Director for DNR?

just curious if you knew him, in the picture in the article, he is holding up very large Trout.

He’s the right choice. There is a difference being a head coach than an assistant. We would not have the players we do without him. Plain and simple. May take some time. Hope it doesn’t cause us to lose Dybantsa.

It seems like it’s always come glaring point for the losses. Last game it was missing free throws. This game, turnovers, again. Second half, 8-1 in favor of TCU. Just like in football, that’s a key stat. And missed layups down the stretch.

Fish is right about the defense. We go under way too much. But, Catchings isn’t that bad. We need to get more movement on offense to give him opportunities to drive more. As far as Demin’s 3’s, keep shooting them.

How do you get from me saying, Starting Catchings and Knell is a big mistake, to sitting a blue blood? You truly need reading skills

Since when is Catchings a blue blood? Does he not have to prove it on the court? We tried to make something out of Caleb Lohner for 3 years. Since when do we reward people who have not proved themselves?

BTW, If BYU cannot learn to win, why would Dybantsa be forced to come here?

you just make me laugh out loud.
The only point KY made in his post game: Reynalds is a special player, that is why we had Richie Saunders and Mag on him all night. That is the only point he made.

Riley Peck named new DWR director

As long as he is from Utah -check
As long as he is an outdoorsman -check
He is not lesbian- check (is it too early to use LA humor?)

Since you like to argue, Hopper, answer me this one:
Would you continue to start our two freshmen…Catchings had 3 points, 3 Turnovers in 9 mins.
Demin 0-3 from three point land, that makes him 1-24 from 3 since he came back from injury.

WOW! If you were coach we would have only D3 players coming to BYU. Please stay away from the coaches and team please.

Back in late August I had no optimism about BYU football. I thought 7 wins would be a great season and my thought was just get football over with and get to basketball because a new coach was hired who was hyped to be the 2nd coming of John Wooden and the recruiting class was the best ever for BYU and now I am just looking forward to football season. A ton has changed in the last 4 1/2 months.

Young may yet become a great coach. Right now all I can say is he is a great recruiter. I think there are so many new pieces on this team that there is no chemistry and the two alleged one and done players are overmatched right now by Big 12 talent. Hopefully a light bulb goes on for both of them before March. You can see the natural ability on both but great seniors will beat freshmen every time.

Last years team played well together from the start. This one has too many new pieces that haven’t come together yet.

What matters to you as a fan? Do you want to win games or help players get to the next level? As a fan I want to see the team win games. That seems more important. If players develop and are able to get to the next level then that is a huge bonus. I think Young has the ability to do both but right now it doesn’t look as if either is happening.

So, who from BYU has made it to the NBA over the past 40 years? Fredette? And how did that go? How many NCAA Championships has BYU won? You need one and done players these days to have a shot. So yes, the two we have this year combined with the 2 or 3 next year, that should give BYU a shot. Play Demin and Catchings a lot. They need to stay for another year. Young is attempting to build a program that can compete for a championship.

That is all I am saying…Starting 2 Fr. and sitting a certain grad Sr. makes no sense to me.

Who’s the Grad senior? You mean Knell? The terrible and useless defender Knell? The one you all bag on?

I love reading your “absolute” posts. As if it is either all or nothing viewpoint.

Since you are a fan of Arnold and Wooden, go read what they say about having experienced players playing along side freshman and sophomores.
Even if they are not the best player, they can help calm the others down, give good advice to how to handle situations.

But all you cane see is the black hole that you live in.

everyone else understands Jim comments.

So, then you can explain what his big picture is? What is the big picture about Dybantsa affecting this year’s team and the losses?

Since you like to argue, Hopper, answer me this one:

BYU Basketball News: Kanon Catchings was benched against TCU. Why are his minutes dropping?

As a coach, would you continue giving Catchings big mins when you have Mag, arguably the best defender in the big 12 to sit.

So, when you disagree it’s your opinion. When I disagree it’s arguing. :-/~

Who has more upside? Mags or Catchings? As long as Catchings is not turning over the ball, he starts or comes off the bench and plays the most minutes. Would Chicago have won with 5 Rodman’s on the floor? Offense is needed down the stretch. Catchings needed to be on the floor at the end. Play the talent.

There is no question Catchings has NBA upside. EASILY.

There is also no question Catchings is young and weak and is being bullied in EVERY B12 game by guys bigger and stronger. Demin too, for that matter—he gets pushed wide of the elbow almost every time he drives to use the high pick.

There is also no question that Mag is an elite defender and for anyone keeping score at home, currently has a higher shooting % in ALL THREE METRICS (fg%, FT%, 3pt%) than EITHER OF OUR future NBA freshmen. I’ll go so far as to say Mag is a better defender than Richie (can’t believe I just said that), and Mag is an absolute plus on offense.

There is plenty of time to develop Catchings. But this team is reeling right now, and the admin, players, coaches, and fans are all sick of losing after the high expectations for this team. Especially losing playing awful, terrible ball.

I think our best shot to start winning games is to make sure Richie and Mag are on the floor as much as possible.

In the words of Jim, you aren’t seeing the big picture. We have lost two games we should have won. The loss came down to the end where Mags can’t create his own shots.

The problem I see is losing some of these blue chip recruits that BYU rarely gets. Catchings and Demin came in thinking Young was going to turn them into NBA players in one season and then they would move on. Unless there is a dramatic change the last two months of the season neither Demin or Catchings is likely to be drafted as one and dones. So what happens? Do they lose faith in coach Young and move on through the portal? Kids nowadays tend to want it all now. What happens with potential blue chip recruits who see BYU not winning? Do Dybantsa and Stanton try to get out of their commitments?

Not too late to turn around the season but it looks like the rotation needs some tweaking. They desperately need a win at home tomorrow and a road win over Utah on Saturday. Utah is looking like the conference bottom dweller right now so that should be a very winnable game. A little streak right now with a road win could help with confidence. Mag needs more minutes and Knell should be a guy used as a three point specialist and if he isn’t hitting he goes back to the bench.
