New head coach?

I vote for him too–for a lifetime ban from BYU. Goes to arch rival, only to oversee the most vitriolic period the rivalry has seen in its history. I want him to coach at BYU as much as the Ute fans want Dave Rose to be their basketball coach.

Whoever it is, they won’t have Anae to kick around. He’s headed to UV too. Along with 3 offensive assistance including Beck.

Seriously Tom? You want a lifetime ban? Wow, I guess what some Ute Fans say about BYU fans are true… He went to Utah because McBride gave him his first shot at DC, he stayed at Utah because his PLAYERS came to his house and begged him to stay… He does have some issues with BYU because of the way Lavell treated his dad (perceived or real don’t know) when Fred came back from the NFL and offered to help the defense back in the days of Ken Schmidt…

The reason the Rivalry is as bitter as it is, has nothing to do with Kyle… It has everything to do with idiot FANS!

Kyle is a PROVEN HC, who took over for the Egotisical Meyers and has done a decent job, in spite of having an AD that has undermined his position more than once.

I would LOVE to have Kyle at BYU, because I think he would do great…

I’m sorry for getting your blood pressure up. My sarcasm was lost on you. I will commit to doing a better job with my smart aleck posts in the future

I believe that Kyle was offered BYU first and turned it down for more money at Utah. Bronco was second choice. If the Navy coach is truly out of the running, my first choice would be Anderson from Stanford.

No, it was probably me not you Tom… Sorry having a rough day…

It was actually the players that convinced Kyle to stay… Not the money, Scott.

Although I think that was definitely a “bonus”…

I’d do some research on this subject before I made a comment that sounded like I knew exactly what I was saying. I’ll bet you that the highest paid person at the majority of colleges around the country is the head football coach and I can guarantee you that is the case at nearly every P5 conference team in the country. Most of them probably make more than the president of the school.

So I think your opinion, while real to you, is more of an assumption than a reality.

Take a quick look at the link above. I think you will be surprised at the facts.

I agree with Craig… it’s more about the money than the love of the game, teaching players how to play the game and fulfilling their competitive spirit…

Edit here - in fact, the more I look at and research the subject, the more I can see it is true. The money that college football coaches and assistants are being paid is out of control high… even the assistants are being paid huge money.

He’s not a liar, he is spinning the comment into a PR stunt…

Why is that so hard to understand?

Once again, manipulating the information you call facts to fit your Theory. Could it be that Bronco loves the game, loves the players and enjoys the benefits of his long years of preparation? Kyle Van Noy was a perfect example of is desire to help young men even more than the Xs and Os and the money.

Your interpretation

Has it every occurred to you Jim that the reason Navy (which is in the processing of doing this) would raise the salary for Coach Ken is because they appreciate the hard work he did with the players and the program over the past several years? That it is a way for him to keep him with the program?

Everyone likes it when employers gives raises to their employees as a reward for their hard work… but I guess the employees are in it ONLY for the money, right Jim?

Coaches who are in it for the money generally do not stay at one program long, the best two examples I can see is Meyers and Saban (how many teams have they coached?)

Bronco could have went to other places prior to Virginia, I would think for similar or more money… but he choose to stay at BYU for 11 years, Why?

Excellent points! And coming from me means a lot

Okay, different example but the same principle here.

Think about it for a minute before you reply.

Why do so many college athletes leave one school to play at another?

I believe it is because they hold on to the misguided belief that they can play professionally and make big money doing it. It is a matter of priorities.

What is it that should be important to us in our life? As members of the church we know that loving God and our fellow men while preparing ourselves for eternal life is more important than anything else. But how many are actually doing that? For many it is probably 4th or 5th on the list… they would rather seek after riches and material possessions, take fancy vacations, do mission travel blogs, live in big houses and drive fancy cars. Tell me how many of those pursuits are preparatory to eternal life? That is just within the church… what is it like on the outside?

Forget it… I’m wasting my time.

So, what you are saying is that an athlete can’t do both? The 3 main priorities are

  1. God
  2. Family
  3. Work (1Timothy 5:8,“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”)
So, a non-married athlete should be wise and look ahead to provide for future family.
And, a married athlete should do what is best to do likewise.
As long as he/she doesn’t mix up the order, then there is nothing wrong with doubling or more the chance to provide for the family. The choice of work is up to the individual.

Now, I was shown 35 years ago that these 3 priorities exist on the points of an equalilateral triangle. If one puts too much emphasis on one, the triangle (priorities) get all skewed out of emphasis. And, that can cause major problems in life.
I think they can handle all three if they have a great wife

Coach Niumatalolo is not at Navy for the money.

He’s proven that many times to Navy, to himself, and most important to the Lord.

He appreciates the mission of the Naval Academy. His brother is career army; his father was career Coast Guard, who then worked for the PCC in Laie…money enough to cover life’s living expenses…and he’s had that since he got hired as an assistant back in the day at Hawaii. The only job he tried hard for was the HC at Hawai’i when he hoped to raise his sons there close to family…didn’t work out, they gave it to June Jones. If his youngest son hadn’t committed to USU already Ken probably wouldn’t consider taking the BYU job for family reasons even now.
He worked at UNLV under Coach Robinson, including play calling; he was after all a former OC, so he has some experience with other than triple option…

Floyd,

I am trying to understand the reason that you say Bronco is leaving.

" Bronco said the money was not the important part about the decision, it was more to do with having a “Different” challenge, Is the BYU team challenging enough for Bronco. Is he bored? Has he reached all of his main goals, i.e

  1. another national Championship 2. Getting into a P4 play off 3. Getting into a P5 conference.

new team,
Doesn’t Bronco like his Cougar team?

new players
doesn’t Bronco like his cougar players?

at least that is what he said at the press conference they had.
If Bronco said it, we have to believe it. Remember how loyal he is, how devoted he is, how much faith he has, etc, etc. etc.

I think Bronco Realized that he could not bring BYU to the level some of the fans and especially cougar club members wanted, this is PURELY speculation on my part… but I can not help but wonder if it did not have an impact.

I am sure that he left for the good of the team and not for his own personal gain. yeah!

Ron,
I used Bronco own words to say what he is doing. Jim disparages him and say it is about the money.

I believe like you that Bronco is leaving for several reason
1- tired of all the fans opinions
2- tired of unrealistic expectations(although he caused some of it) of fans and cougar club.
3- maybe it was a bit of boredom from doing the same thing for 11 years.I changed jobs recently for the same reason.
4- maybe it had to do with realizing BYU will never be big time again because of the BOT.

I find it helps if you add a winky to comments to let people know that you’re joking around…

Another example of why it is so difficult to have a discussion with you (and we all know I am not alone on this) is that you put words in others’ mouths. My post had nothing to do with my opinion on whether an athlete can or can;t do both… and for that matter, what is both?

I specifically referenced the issue of athletes leaving one school to go to another because they have the misheld belief that they have the skills to play and get paid for it… If that isn’t the reason they do it, then please tell me what is. For every 100 basketball players that switch schools thinking it will give them the opportunity to showcase thier incredible skills at putting a ball through a hoop, I’ll bet it is less than one that actually realizes it.

Just another symptom of a society that has misplaced its’ values and is pointing in the wrong direction.
