Roy, it might make you feel better to say all of the Emery stuff is speculation but it isn’t. Just go read the NCAA report. BYU admitted the facts of the case. It isn’t speculation. BYU isn’t disputing any of the facts of what Emery did OR what the coaches and administration did/didn’t do. So those are the facts. The only thing that Rose and the Athletic Dept is upset about is that the punishment included vacating 47 wins while Emery was playing and ineligable. That is all they are upset about … nothing else. They don’t agree that those wins should be vacated. They might be right … But All the rest of the punishments were offered by BYU to the NCAA on a silver platter because BYU suggested to the NCAA the very punishments that were handed down.
“It’s all speculation” is a statement that is inaccurate on its face.
Ok, thawk, you are correct, the word, “all.” is inaccurate. The “facts” are the facts in that they have been written or spoken by the BYU leadership and the NCAA. However, even those “facts” MAY not be factual in the scientific sense of "something that has actual existence and objective reality. None of us know the objective reality of any of that which has been written or spoken. However, for our purposes here, we can accept them as “factual.” Anything other than those “facts,” are mere speculation. While speculation may be fun to express and discuss, speculation is still speculation. My only reason for posting about this is that enough repeated speculation can lead to the strong belief by some (or many) that the speculation is factual truth. I have seen this in several scientific journals and books.
