Aro,
Like you said, interesting discussion. What bothers me the most is that people like to throw blanket statements for some group of people or another.
Can you honestly say that all democrats are “communist” or evil? Then you would have had an interesting conversation with Elder Faust of the Quroum of the 12 who was fiercely a “Democrat” in his political views. Did he support abortion and Gay Rights (what they were called back then)? No, but for whatever reason he was card carrying member of the democratic party up until his death.
I look at people of political parties on an individual basis, not as a whole. I study what they “stand on”, not what the poltical party platform is on.
Even the Frist Presidency has said "Merely voting a straight ticket or voting based on ‘tradition’ without careful study of candidates and their positions on important issues is a threat to democracy and inconsistent with revealed standards,” June 2023
Why are leaders speaking out? One might argue that this is nothing new, since the LDS hierarchy has previously encouraged more two-partyism**. “It’s not in our interest to be known as a one-party church,”** one elder told The Salt Lake Tribune during a 1998 interview.
A better question is why the church’s top authorities are speaking out now. Part of the explanation likely stems from concern over the hold that Trump, and the Trumpian approach to politics, has on the Republican Party.
Hopper says, "We have been commanded to fight “evil”, Well let’s put that to the test.
In our current Republican primary, we had two choices. Both had similar policies, and pretty much the same views on foreign affairs.
- One has a history of mistreating women, being vulgar, has a lack of morals and pretty much determined to be a narcist. Who bends the law to do what he wants in his business world. Been known to default on loans.
- the other seems to be a good governor, strong morals, tries to work with people, does not bring a lot of baggage to the position.
So what does the GOP voters do? they vote for the person whose morals and behavior is not what I would call “good”.
Reminds me of the scripture where it says, “people will call evil good and good evil” Trump in my opinion is evil.
Is Trump better than Biden? Yes, but we had a better candidate that was a better choice and people chose the lesser option.
