Unless RM now means Recruited Mercenary.
BTW, have ZERO problem with that!
The recruiting field seems to have leveled out…though Crowton comes to mind…and questions about continuity that is essential for season to season success with the minor league professionalism that is NCAA.
But it is good, very good, to see four coaches meeting with a top recruit so far from the western homeland of BYU.
Give me 100 Jamaal Williams or Derwin Greys and Jernaro Guilfords—non LDS kids who embrace the culture and rules while at BYU and leave as great ambassadors for BYU. And 100 KVNs and Brandon Davies—LDS kids who have to really work to find their way and come out bigger and better men on the other side. And in the mix I will get some like Tom Holmoe and Kresimir Kovic and Mile Hall who find their new faith in a new place.
They all make BYU a better place for all of us.
Then give me Jimmy Mac to captain my ship every day, and I’ll put up with whatever chaos he causes.
I listened to Egor and I think one other. They all said, “Love BYU, it’s quiet. I can focus on Basketball”. obviously there are plenty of guys who don’t want the college party life. They want to put in the work, with coaches that know what they are doing. Kevin Young, he is the conduit to the NBA. He can pick up the phone and talk to anyone in the league. There might be less then 5 coaches in college that have that kind of connection.
Depends on the chaos. There are limits…Even at non-LDS schools.
When my wife and I visited BYU and it was my first time doing so, I noticed that I could go to the gyms and track fields without choking cigarette smoke and a bunch of cussing and swearing going on. I know there were still things going on but it wasn’t always in your face every second of the day. Being a non-member that stood out above San Jose State and UCLA where I was looking to go to as well.
THIS 7’1 PROSPECT MIGHT COMMIT TO BYU BASKETBALL | Meet Xavion Staton (youtube.com)
hails from Las Vegas. 5 hrs down the road
Mandaquit and AJ Dybantsa both attend Utah Prep out of Hurricane Ut. They were roommates and gold medal winners on the Team USA youth 17 team. They will be making BYU their last stop and visit together
Schedule for this year:
So, we have to play at Houston, Kansas, Iowa State with no corresponding home game?
Aren’t they the top three teams in the BIG12?
Is it just me? or does this schedule seem a bit weird?
Do any of the new members have the same sort of challenge? Can’t wait for basketball to begin! But, back to football…
Bill Self runs B12 basketball, not the B12. And he didn’t like the way last year ended. Of course he will make sure the odds are stacked against a potentially very good BYU team.
Was talkin to my new pal, KY, yesterday. and he said…“See that Russian over there…he’s going to be special”. Then he says, "Yeah ,was down to visit AJ yesterday.
So far I have counted 3 trips to Hurricane.
Bill self does run the B12 like Few fan the Rec. League but times are changing…Few is now in the new P7 and BYU has Ryan Smith

BYU Basketball Reportedly Set to Host Four-Star Xavion Staton for Official Visit
Xavion Staton, from just down the road in Las Vegas, he visited UNLV, Mich., Stanford and his last visit is 11/2 @BYU.
My thoughts: Any ball with in 10’ of the rim can be blocked on D. On O, he is the garbage man, O boards and flushes. He is lean but fast. Not going to shoot from distance but boy will he patrol the middle. Just look at the video. And what are our odds? Stanford? for the education…BYU is no slouch! Mich, the only blue blood. UNLV, home town, no brainer. What are our odds and the fact that BYU is the last visit?
Really Good
Let’s be honest here-I don’t care if he can rebound. I don’t care if he can block shots. We need him for no other reason than the old school headband, goggles, and knee pads are giving serious Kareem Abdul Jabbar vibes.
I follow some big ten news, Indiana Bloomington grad, and the prognosticators are all over the board for him…most discount Michigan as too far, though it has academics over BYU, which seems to have some importance for him otherwise Stanford is not on the list. It cannot be for basketball reasons to go to Stanford.
UNLV is on the list because of hometown and bball tradition. Kevin Kruger is not the shark nor even his father, but is gradually building up his coaching resume in what is roughly his home town too.
Most commentators have BYU as his number 2, though some foresee KYU as his number one. Coach Burgess is magic…so my hopes are high for him.
