Request for a poll

Does BYU Cougar Football fans appreciate the fact that we are now playing at least (4 P5) teams per season, and many of them are coming to Provo,

or are there still some fans that would rather see us in a G5 conference playing G5 teams for a G5 conference championship, with hope, (HOPE-HOPE-HOPE) that we might get a bowl good enough to play 1 P5 team?

I would like someone, much more talented in poll taking, than I, to imitate a poll, world wide, of BYU Cougar Football fans, which scenario they actually support.

For starter, let those on this site, give their opinion. I love our independance until such time, if ever, we get an invite to a P5 conference, which may or may not ever come.

More than likely BYU will not get into a P-5 conference due to the left-wing political agendas of most P-5 schools. The PAC-12 is packed with let wing schools who despise BYU like Cal, USC, Oregon, Standford, Colorado, and Washington. It is also questionable that Arizona and ASU and UCLA will ever vote for BYU because of the LBTQ powers. The only possibles of see int the PAC-12 that might ever vote for BYU inclusion is Utah, Oregon State and Wash. State, and they are even questionable. The Big-12 (Little-10) apparently will never vote for BYU and who knows else. The only possible way BYU may ever get into P-5 conference is if several P-5 conferences break up and several P-5 powers like Texas or Oklahoma leave the Big-12 (little 10) for the PAC-12, and several conferences move into 16 team super conferences and then BYU might have a chance in the Big-12 (little 10) or the real Big 10 (14) and maybe teams like Nebraska leave for greener pastures, or the American Athletic Conference gets P-5 status if this conferences needs more numbers and BYU may get in. But ir will be many years before this cought ever possibly happen and BYU comes in for basketball and/or football only and maybe volleyball. I doubt if any BYU olympic sports will ever get into a P-5 conference except maybe golf, tennis or women’s soccer. Or if a new P-5 conference is formed out of the timbers of other P-5 conference. Playing for P-5 conference games in football each year is suicide.

“More than likely BYU will not get into a P-5 conference due to the left-wing political agendas of most P-5 schools. The PAC-12 is packed with left wing schools who despise BYU like Cal, USC, Oregon, Standford, Colorado, and Washington.”

I agree with your astute observation, texcoug, regarding our chances of ever being part of the PAC-12, or even a future PAC-14 or 16. I also don’t believe BYU is accepted too well in the bible belt or liberal East Coast. While attitudes have mellowed somewhat in the general population, that is not who will decide if we will be part of any P-5 conference. If we can play well enough to compete at the P-5 level AND RECRUIT on a P-5 level, then maybe the day will come when we will be accepted into that elite group, but I’m not so sure I want to be part of that group anyway. At what price would we sell our values and unique character? GO COUGARS!

If you want to be the best play the best. We have everything a P5 school has and more. We are a P5 program. Don’t let anyone tell you differently

We are better than a lot of P5 schools in every sport out there which won’t get us into a P5 conference. Unfortunately we have to win against the P5 powerhouses in order to make that jump. We have been there in the past and hopefully are on track to return. I don’t want to be a bottom feeder in a P5 conference, I would rather stay independent

I’m okay with independence or even going back to a mid conference. I agree with others too that the reason for rejection to P-5s is that most of those schools either don’t want to include the church of the Devil as they would put it and/or the 3 G’s. Our Church belief on Girls, God and Gays. Elder Hamilton said that the Boy Scouts left us for those 3 reasons. We didn’t leave them. He said that in our leadership meeting of our Stake Conference Saturday.

Thanks texcoug for your reply/opinions.

You mention that one drawback is that Pac 12 teams are way far to the left.
They would probably say that we are a way to far to the right. Semantics. We agree.

You mention that one drawback may be our stand on the LGBT community.
That community has threatened any/all conferences a boycott if they accepted BYU because of our stand. (That happened when we thought we had a chance to get into the Big 12)

I think that I agree with all that you say in your post except for one thing. I qoute:

" but I’m not so sure I want to be part of that group anyway. (P5). At what price would we sell our values and unique character? "

I believe that we should always strive to be all that we can be. President Kennedy said that we are not going to the moon because it is easy. We are going to the moon because it is hard. We enjoy the challenge.

Sr_Burton,

I appreciate your reply/opinions. I agree with much of your opinions. I differ in some areas.

I agree: We are better than a lot of P5 schools in every sport out there which won’t get us into a P5 conference.

I agree. Unfortunately, we have to win against the P5 powerhouses in order to make that jump.

As an Independent, we are learning how to play P5 teams.

We are getting some very valuable experience with our schedule that we could not get as a G5 conference team. We are now set aside, and away from the G5 title, and with our schedules, we are being recognized by many teams, as a P5 Independent team. WE are working and we are earning our way up the ladder.

As you say, when we start winning more and more of these P5 teams, by that fact, we will be considered a P5 Independent team.

Jonjane,

It is could to have you back on this site. Thank you for your reply/opinions.
I like your spirit. You have a lot of faith. Faith without works is dead. We are working hard and your faith will pay off.

We are learning how to be a P5 team as an Independent. As Sr_Burton says, before we will be recognized by the majority of teams, as a P5 team, we must first start winning at least half of all P5 teams that we play.

I think that we have a chance to beat USC and Tennessee this season. I hope so.
If we do, and still lose to Utah and Washington, that will give us 50/50 vs P5 teams this season. That is a good thing.

If we lose to G5 Boise State and G5 Utah State, that could be a setback.

This will be an interesting season.

Thank you for your reply/opinions.
" If we can play well enough to compete at the P-5 level AND RECRUIT on a P-5 level, then maybe the day will come when we will be accepted into that elite group".
I like this part of your post. I agree with it totally.

I would be happy to be respected as an Independent P5 team without a conference.
When we learn how to be successful in playing the four P5 teams that we now play, winning more than we lose, than increase the amount to 6 teams until we can win more of those teams than we lose, until finally, we are playing 9 P5 teams with respectable 3 G5 teams to go with those other nine, than like it or not, we will be a P5 team, with or without a conference; with or without an invitation.

Sports are sports and most people leave it at that. We don’t have to sell out any values just to belong to a P5 conference . We just have to win football games and basketball games and have a program that will fill the NCAA coffers with cash. I hate it when people bring up the left or right wing politics in athletics. Yes the PAC 12 have some liberal schools-so what? The Midwest has some conservative schools-good for them. Until we all just learn to get along with each other then we are going to be inundated with all this nonsense. I may not believe in a Gay type of lifestyle but I can certainly get along with them. I may not believe in a Godless society-but I am extremely blessed to be able to live by my first amendment rights. We began has a group of severely persecuted people-have we become the persecutors? Enjoy the upswing in BYU’s football and basketball teams and if you are so concerned about being in a major conference-“just win baby”

I agree with most of what you say. Just win. But how are we persecuting people and sports teams?

Some like to demean people for what they choose to believe and practice. Much like people used to demean the early Saints for their beliefs and practices. The early Saints only wanted refuge, to live their lives according to what they believed God commanded them to do. We must learn to live our lives according to what we profess, and especially practice tolerance of others. We came here to exercise free agency and allow all to choose. We tend to vilify schools for liberalism or Godlessness, but in my opinion athletes pay little attention to many of these things and concentrate on developing their talents the best they can and many give thanks to God for their abilities. I have attended 3 different schools of higher learning and though I bleed cougar blue, I have good memories of all of them including U of U

You had me until that last line…

Just kidding. Sort of.

Lol u would have to be there to understand:muscle:But in reality the Y was the highlight of my experience because it was more than an educational experience- it was a life experience :shushing_face:but I do root for the Utes except against BYU

You speak of tolerance. I wish it would go both ways because liberals have no tolerance to conservatives. To them conservatives are deplorables, racists, homophobics and in and on while they see themselves as the ultimate progressive moral leaders. Universities are now run by 95% liberal socialists. They have no need to be tolerant to the deplorables they speak of.

For sure…

"We don’t have to sell out any values just to belong to a P5 conference. "

"I hate it when people bring up the left or right wing politics in athletics. Yes the PAC 12 have some liberal schools-so what? "

Sr_Burton,

I totally agree with all of the quotes above. We are definately on the same page.
It sounds like something that I would have written except for the fact that you write it better. Thank You. Ron

Sr_Burton,

Your writings tell me that you are the type of person that I would like to have as a friend.

“I do root for the Utes except against BYU” I went to BYU. 3 of my four kids went to BYU. Two of them got their BA at the Y. One of those got his MS at Utah. LE went to Utah State. I too, cheer for Utah and Utah State when they are not playing BYU.

Sr_Burton

" We came here to exercise free agency and allow all to choose."

And---- I might add, leave all judging to God.
