Shaylee Gonzales entering the Transfer Portal

She’s pretty darn good. But, the last game she played she struggled against pressure. I just think it was because her mommy didn’t get the job. Sad.

Isn’t that the dream of all college kids? Make a living playing sports? NIL now allows that to happen. With all the wealthy LDS companies out there, isn’t high time that they stand up and help BYU land and retain top talent?

Well, no one knows her at Texas. She hasn’t made a name for herself there yet. If she doesn’t play much she won’t make the money she was. But, I think she will get playing time. This isn’t about the money. It’s about getting her feathers ruffled because her mom didn’t get the coaching job.

Hopper: I can somewhat agree with you about Shaylee’s Mum not getting the BYU Women’s HC job. Shaylee is used to the extra good treatment.

B>C. Good luck in the portal. Check with Shaylee’s financial adviser, they might help you get some big money. Going to Texas is all about $$$$$$$.

She really likes it at BYU. It isn’t so much about the money as it was about her mom not getting the job. I don’t know anything about her mom’s qualifications. But, the coach has to be someone that can lead for many years, not just the couple more years of Shaylee playing college ball.

From what I recall, Shaylee’s mom’s experience is similar to Amber Whiting’s: former college player, high school and AAU coach,

Maybe Holmoe didn’t want to look like nepotism in reverse…

Good point Hopper. Maybe there is a big fire under Shaylee’s ego. Stars get treated like super stars. I will miss her on the court at the Marriott Center.

Since when did the wealthiest people do anything to really make a significant contribution to help the poor and less fortunate. I know the Hopper will disagree with me on this but corporate greed and the obsession with acquiring wealth and material goods has ruined society. California leads the way as always and is a cesspool of the very worst right now. Corrupt politicians, corrupt corporations, homeless people, etc. You want to see where the rest of the country is headed, come visit California.

Nobody is going to do anything to really help the less fortunate.

Certainly there is corporate greed. But the corporations are owned by millions of shareholders expecting profits. If you think socialism can be run properly by human beings, I’ve never heard a prophet of God say so. Socialism can only be instituted with top down government tyranny and morphs into communism or fascism. I’ll take capitalism over socialism every time and that includes corporations.

Red states also have corporations in them and do much better with the poor and needy and homeless. We need more parents seeing the unrighteous woke politicians and media to throw them out of office. Already CNN viewership is down 47%. Fox is up 12%.

Interesting thing about corporate greed: The petroleum industry has a profit margin of about 5%. The entertainment industry has a profit margin of over 20%. Which one does the general population complain about? Which one is pretty much ignored?

Yep! When emotions are riled up, irrational conclusions are the usual outcomes. It’s not to say that there aren’t other industries that have huge corporate greed persons at the top. Of course there is. But, on the other hand, we usually don’t look at the good they do with jobs and giving to the poor as well. I’d say the poor who are looting stores and doing drugs in them is also greed and causing people to lose their jobs. There is a lot of greed throughout the population and fewer widow mites.

I believe it was Brigham Young that said “In the last days, there will be a great purge in the world, it will begin within this church”.

I believe later in the comments, he said 50% of the church will fall away.

I will see if I can find the exact quote.

As for the church being a shell of itself, I think that it is more about the behavior of the saints and they can justify their actions and comments and try to wrap it around a gospel principle.

As for Shaylee, she has a goal to make to the next level and make some money. Are people upset that former IT students developed Pixar and left early?

Kids are going to where they can get the money.

I don’t wish her ill. She did what she feels is best, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just no longer think of her as a BYU player. I’m still grateful for what she did as a Cougar; but for me, her career ended the day she transferred.

Unfortunately the entertainment industry doesn’t deliver anything essential, and in fact is a corrupting influence. The petroleum industry delivers an essential product and is under attack by the Democrats and their green energy cultists.

Boise Cougar: Right on. If Shaylee had played better herself in last season’s NCAA’s perhaps BYU could have moved up in the tourney. To me Shaylee is showing selfishness and a lack of team leadership. As good a player as she is she obviously has a personal selfishness because she gets an awful lot of adulation, perhaps more than her young ego can take. She denounced all 12 PAC-12 schools when she was being recruited out of high school because she wanted to play for BYU. But once the BYU HC retired she obviously had too much ego to be a leader with this younger BYU roster after last season. Paisley Harding and others led the team when they were still at BYU. But Shaylee obviously lacks the personal qualities of leadership to help her BYU team of youngsters to develop into big time winners. Which I personally feel that the team is capable of developing with a leader like Harding and others. But Shaylee is too stuck on herself to be that leader that BYU needs this season.

I don’t know if it was Brigham Young or much later but I’ve heard the same thing and believe it. It’s all based on emotions because Satan can affect our emotions such as family members who are involved in homosexual behaviors. And we see many falling away over this attack on the “family.” It’s not the only issue but is at the forefront today.

I don’t want to finger point at specific industries or corporations. I am only stating facts and letting others decide what they think the issues and problems are.

There are more billionaires being created than ever before, ironically many of them in the food and food service industries. All this at the same time we see other corporations being formed to “feed people” who can’t afford to feed themselves?

We now have 3 athlete billionaires in this country.

If nobody else sees these things as issues or problems then I guess I’m alone on this one.

I think my problem with your comment is that you paint with a wide brush and not really knowing whether a BYU alum who happens to be Million or Billionaire is willing to donate money to the school based on what the world “billionaires” do in the world.

That is not fair Jim.

I know for a fact, that the current baseball and softball diamonds that BYU plays on was built by the funds donated by Larry H. and Gail Miller (Former Jazz owners) who was probably at least a millionaire.

I also know that during the pandemic and BYU sports was struggling to meet the budget, many “wealthy” alumi donated money to keep BYU sports a float until Holmoe could turn it around.

Then there is the current Jazz owner Ryan Smith who is a billionaire that has donated tons of money to BYU for school fund in various areas.

The people that started Pixar (former BYU students) has donated money to the Computer Science department at BYU.

I also know that Jon Huntsman donated tons of money to the U (Huntsman Center), especially in the medical field. as well as other billionaire George S & Dolores Dore Eccles.

So I understand your comment about wealthy people in the world generally, I think a lot of former BYU alumni who happens to be a millionaire or billionaire fits into your category.
