I’m sorry fish but, and I hate to say this, I am in the pmac and Hopper camp on this one. I just didn’t see it from Hall this year. Maybe his good moments were just too few and far between. Maybe his highlights were overshadowed by his more numerous lowlights. Maybe his hands of stone, nerve wracked turnovers in clutch moments and lack of confidence in critical situations lost me… I don’t know but overall, big picture he just didn’t do it for me this year.
Maybe I need to rethink, maybe I am missing something but I think he missed a lot this past season when it came to clutch decisions and important free throws and dribbling the ball at the top of the key and halfcourt every possession that got to me. Maybe it was his one dimensional play with Foos where he would work the clock for 20-25 seconds and then dribble toward the key trying to get the defender behind him to either draw a foul or pass it into Foos… that became so predictable that it stopped being all that effective. He became one dimensional and that dimension just wasn’t working in my opinion. Yes, I will give it to you that he had some bright moments and did some good things but it was all overshadowed by other stuff and that is why I think he entered the portal.
It’s nothing personal, I just think he looked lost a lot of the time.
You know analogies like that are not allowed in this forum.
You are right and that is why Hall left. He knew that KY was looking for a potential top point guard that can already shoot from outside and drive like RW does. It’s just a different offense that KY is looking for. We will still shoot 3’s. He wants some real driving abilities to the basket too.
Yes! Been following.
Demin vs Wright might be a push at college level - Demin more at pro level given his unique skills at his size.
He was five start!!
A great get imho
Wright is a lock down defender, demin was OK. Look for one more veteran defender, like Mag to join the team. With the players that we have, offense is there, what KY needs to get to a final 4 is defense.
Quickness is t the only key for great defense. Smartness and teamwork is just as important. I think we have those already if everyone works as hard as they can like the football team is doing.
Big 12 Conference regular season championship would be key…probably includes closing the gap with Houston…
Any of the Elite Eight had defence/offence combination that would have solidly beat KY’s first team…Diamonte, Mbouta, Wright, and even Dybansta are all upgrades on defense with the exception of Mag of course…If Kozlowski can play defense to not be a detriment his offense will help the second squad keep up on offence.
Ya, I don’t agree with your assessment. Diamonte, Mbouta, Wright, AJ and Keba would beat any of those top 8 teams including Houston. We should have Saunders back who will start in front of Diamonte or Mbout. BYU wins.
Boscovic will make a difference before Kozlowski. So will Baker and Staton as well. Should be a great year again!
Toolson, a 6-foot-5 native of Vancouver, Washington, doesn’t have a visit lined up with the Gonzaga Bulldogs yet, as he currently plans on visiting BYU — where he started his college career in 2022 — before going on a visit with Iowa beginning on Sunday, followed by a trip to Utah State next week. Xavier is another school that’s been involved, according to reports. Gonzaga contacted All-WAC guard Tanner Toolson via transfer portal
McCollum at Iowa and Few at Gonzaga both are pretty good judges of talent on D…so maybe KY, McCollum, and Few see something that you don’t? I haven’t seen him play since his injury season at BYU. And mission recovery year with an injury doesn’t prove much.
40% from 3.
According to College Basketball Scouting, his 70% eFG percentage in catch-and-shoot situations placed him in the 99th percentile this past season. He had 10 games with 3+ made threes and two games where he made six.
Currently, KY seems to like his transfers with multiple years left.
Currently seems to be focusing more on the smalls than the bigs…just a matter of happenstance with who is available or is he comfortable with his set of bigs right now? Perhaps something for the bigs still under wraps? coming from Europe?
Interesting note about the Transfer portal, with the new rules coming in this year (2025) the football team can have 105 players on the team (down from 120) but the 85 max scholarship goes away so all 105 players can be on scholarships. With basketball it went from 13 to 15.
So, as we see people leaving BYU (especially in Football), it may be that they were asked to do so, with the limit being placed on the school, now coaches not only have to decide who “fits” on the team but also does “experienced” players (seniors) out way the costs of developing younger talent to replace them. Hope that made sense.
Seems like football will be much like basketball. A little bit of both. We definitely have to have expert players as Houston showed. But talent still matters a lot as well. Saunders development shows having players around with upside potential matters.
I have a feeling he was never going to get any significant playing time anyway. Boskovic would have played irregardless of whether this guy left or not. Townsend had no bearing on any playing time for anyone. The only thing it does is free up a roster spot.
