Southern Illinois was a below average team in a below average MIssouri Valley Conference.
His assist to turnover ratio includes more turnovers than assists.
He played two power conference teams he shot 4-11 and a respectable 6-12 with turnover to assist 5-2 and 1-4.
Not sure he is a savior of any kind. As a team the Salukis were an impressive 8th of 12 teams in both offence and defence.
Looks to me like someone who will be project player with some minutes this year for some specific situations with the hopes that he improves to regular a rotation player the following year.
Badly need a backup point and a true big to take minutes for when Keiba and Staton run their fouls too high concurrently.
Though given the number of bigs and PGs that KY seems to be recruiting he apparently disagrees with me so far.
Davis and Wright are both true point guards. Wright is 6 foot one which means he is 6 foot but heâs impossible to stop.
Davis is 6 foot six and according to the coaches, he can defend the other teamâs best player. Iâm not saying heâs a mag, but if we look at last yearâs team, Demin did not impress me and certainly hall did not impress me on defense.
So is this a major upgrade I would say absolutely.
Last yearâs guard lineup was Demin Hall Mag baker Knell and Crawford. Saunders
This yearâs lineup will be W right, Davis, baker, Dominique, Saunders, Mboup.
Last year we started slow because both Demin and hall had injuries. Demin was new to college basketball.. Hall not show any flashes of his old self until the last few weeks of the season. Neither was lockdown defender. Those duties fell upon mag who did not get into the rotation because catching was the starter until midseason.
This year our guard lineup is veterans from start to finish and several of our projected starters are supposed to be much better defenders so I think we improve both on offense although itâs gonna take about midseason before everyone jells. But the caveat is much better defenders as in final four type defenders.
This is what puzzles me.
I can find no reference to Davis as a true point. He is listed everywhere I can find as a shooting guard.
I did find a couple of references to him filling in last year for an extended period of time when the Salukiâs starting PG was injured. So not incompetent or inexperienced.
If someoneone wants to question KYâs ability to evaluate talent then that is their prerogative. Last season I questioned his ability to coach college ball early in the season. By seasonâs end I was done questioning. Yes, he will make a mistake occasionally because he is not perfect. He is still learning obviously, but I will not question his skill or ability to evaluate talent and bring in players that are WAY ahead of the players BYU has been able to bring in before now.
AJ Dybantsa is the kind of player BYU has NEVER had before, nor will they probably ever have someone of his skill level. The same goes for the portal players he is bringing in, they are so much more skilled than any players BYU has had in a long time. BYU gets these kinds of players once in a decade maybe⌠now they are coming in multiples a season.
Yep! Although, if BYU lives up to the possibilities with the players we have, more top players will play here. Although, the team with Ainge went to the elite eight with was pretty good as well.
I am trying to find this article I read about KY first year. The reason is that in this article, he stated that he underestimated the defense in the BIG12, and it was one of things that he âexperiencedâ as a new coach.
It backs up what you are basically what you are saying that KY was learning as he went with his first season, but got better as the season went on.
I am not one of those that thinks this next year, BYU will be in the final four, or a great team, to start the season. With all the coming and goings this year, the BYU team need to learn to gel like last year beginning (remember we were all scratching our heads at BYU being blown out by a couple of teams).
That depends on the teams we play early on as well. That you havenât put into the equation. If the teams we play early on also have new players (in which most likely will be) they too will be in the same position of needing time to gel. I like our chances because of our coaching staff. In my opinion, with Saunders return, we are 11-12 deep with more to come.
It does not matter what âother teamsâ are doing, what matters is that our team can âGelâ together with all the new kids on the block. Will it be better with Saunders back? of course, but ask any basketball guru (not yourself) it takes for team mates to know to play with the other players.
I think it was you that said (many times) that BYU can only control what BYU can control, not what anyone else does. Mostly you were referring to the officials but I think it goes for anything else. I agree with Floyd. It doesnât matter what other teams are doing, our team needs to become a cohesive unit that plays well together. That is how you win championships. Well, that and being a Big 10 or SEC team that the NCAA loves.
You missed the point too. Doesnât surprise me.
Aro didnât take into consideration that the teams we play also have to learn to gell together. Seems pretty easy to comprehend this.
Itâs very simple. Team A and Team B bring in several new players.
Team A struggles to play as a team. Too many hero ball players. This cuts into their production and defense. (Houston may be like this)
Team B comes together supporting each other and it shows as they play excellent team ball. They get more open looks and their defense is stronger as well. (BYU 2 years ago)
Itâs funny how everyone in this forum talks about this stuff and then denies it exists now.
The reason being is that the majority of the time you donât understand any of the words that are posted here. Itâs hard for something to bother you when you donât understand what it is.
A big dog could be barking at you and everyone here would say âhey, there is a big dog barking at you Hopperâ and you would say âno, that is a little green frog croaking at meâ and everyone here would slap their foreheads and roll their eyes because you really donât see the obvious things that everyone else sees and nobody understands why you donât.
And yet, you are the only one that has had their posts flagged three times this year for not meeting the community standards.
Maybe instead of trying to justify yourself, you might want to consider that maybe Jim has a point. Take time to evaluate what he is saying and maybe improve your responses to others.
âContention drives away the Spiritâevery time. Contention reinforces the false notion that confrontation is the way to resolve differences; but it never is. Contention is a choice. Peacemaking is a choice. You have your agency to choose contention or reconciliation. I urge you to choose to be a peacemaker, now and always.â
Isnât that the pot calling the kettle black. I made a statement or asked a question and who got spiteful and nasty? Not me. I give my opinions. Some here donât just respond with their opinions. They respond like you, judgmental. Trying to throw out comments from General Authorities that you donât follow.
Whatâs true is that you all think you know everything. You donât. Itâs fine for you to state your opinions. But itâs not alright to complain and criticize when your opinions and views on life get challenged the way you do it.
