USD for the third time

I like his game. I think he got worn down as the season went on. He rebounds well, and takes good shots for the most part. We will see next year

I totally agree. Imagine, a return missionary starting early on not quite physically in condition to make it through the entire season. Imagine that. Perhaps he should have worked his way into condition by coming more off the bench until he could produce more, like Baxter :face_with_monocle:

Lol I could see that coming but he was pretty good the first half

He will have to develop his shooting from distance. As will everyone else. 1-17 from 3 points. Yet, everyone we have was supposed to be hot shots from distance.

Yeh I wouldn’t even call Haws a great outside shooter

He has his moments. But as in the past, he disappeared in a big game.

This post ruined my IN GAME thread for last night’s game. That might have been one of the worst games played by BYU that I have ever watched and you are blaming it ALL on the players. There were so many things wrong with the game last night and Rose has to be held accountable for some of it, just like there are so many things wrong with your post here, you need to be held accountable for it as well. I could pick your comments apart, one by one, and wreck everything you said, but it would serve no purpose because everyone already sees what is wrong with it. I have done it before… it serves no purpose other than to provide humor, which I like doing sometimes.

It’s all your non- professional opinions. So, I understand where you come from.’but, 1-17 threes isn’t the coach’s fault.

WHY DO THEY EVEN PLAY THESE STUPID CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS?
Answer: $$$$$$$$$$

Is the league making money? I didn’t see that many at the game.

I don’t see why we need conference tournmants. Having this format allow lower or worse team getting in the ncaa tournament. Get rid of it and pick 4 teams from each p5, 3 from mwc, cusa, aac, etc. and 2 other lower leagues. That would even some things out.

Or worse p5 take over the march madness like this CFP and other lower leauges create their own. It has mentioned that one time some 2 or 3 years ago but they haven’t talk about it, I think.

It will be interesting if SD beat smc tonight.

Well I am closing the book on this years bb team. I predicted disaster and a fourth or 5th place finish at the beginning of the year and Rose got a 3rd place finish. The WCC tourney put BYU at 5th or 6th finish in the league. Other teams improved more than we did as the year wore on. So we really finished right where our coaching level dictated! Our talent was a side note. Where do we start? I just don’t know. My personal opinion is that Holmoe won’t face his self made problem and we will have Rose back for another year. Rose will “retire” after next season and the program will be down even more than this year. For the good of the team and the school the thing to do is structure Rose out of his contract and let the whole staff go. I don’t know about Quincy Lewis but the rest of the coaches have to go. We will see how much crow Holmoe is willing to eat for the good of the program.

Actually, we tied for 2nd in league play. Which really proves more than a tournament like the WCC. SF is thinking the same way about the tournament format.
The talent is there but as in the past big games, TJ disappeared, again. You could see Childs frustration early on when he was the only one scoring and making baskets. I suppose Childs will try and make an NBA team. He really needs another year. If he goes over seas, he will never get a chance at the NBA. He should be like Davies was and play his last year and go for an NBA opportunity. He’s young because he didn’t go on a mission.

You are under the delusion that the money comes from ticket sales and people attending the tournament? That explains some of the nonsense…

Well it looks like the arena has more people in it now because Gonzaga is playing. Of course everything that goes along with it is there as well.

Grasshopper mentioned something about seeing how St. Mary’s and Gonzaga would fare in the different arena. Well GU is having no problem dominating the Waves. It doesn’t help that the officials are completely intimidated by the Bulldogs and Few, so much so that they can’t see half the stuff that Gonzaga gets away with. I know Gonzaga is good but it’s ridiculous how much favoritism they get from the officiating.

No matter, they will win by 30+ and everyone will say how awesome they are and yes, they are a very good basketball team.

So while Gonzaga seems to keep getting better (they are about as good as they can get) BYU keeps declining… and they likely won’t go to a post season tournament this year.

Lastly, Gonzaga gets a big first half lead and here come the make up calls… safe to do when a team has a huge lead. It makes the officials look fair and objective.

Listened to Steve Cleveland today on BYU radio. He said that he does not think this game is anything other then lack of Player leadership. He went on to say that in the past we have had great vocal leaders but this teams leader, Haws, is sulky and does not lead.

just a thought

more fallout:

"It’s time to address some difficult questions with the Cougar basketball program.

If you are a BYU fan, how much emotionally and financially can you keep investing in a program that is on such a downward trajectory?

If you’re BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe, when does all the good will built up by Dave Rose’s stellar career meet up with expectations and recent poor results?

If you’re Rose and your team fails to show up so spectacularly in the biggest game of the year, do you fear you’ve lost the players’ trust? What changes are you willing to make?

If you’re Yoeli Childs — three years with no NCAA Tournament games — do you cut out and begin your pro basketball career or do you return to try and help save this mess?

The program has made a spectacular fall since Jimmer Fredette left town and doing nothing but soldiering on is insanity.

Something has to be done."

On another note…

St. Mary’s is playing for their post season lives right now as they are on the bubble. San Diego is in the same boat, they want a NIT bid and this game can help them get it. It’s 52 all with 7 minutes to go. I guess it matters to both of them and instead of rolling over in the biggest game of their seasons.

It makes me sick to see these two teams playing their guts out, knowing that my team acted like they didn’t care and played with no heart.

Did you missed something else what Steve Cleveland said about best player leaving early to pro?

Childs should follow Jimmer and play one more year.
