How much should we fine Floyd? 
Fine was appropriate -AD should have a little more restraint
When you say the game was stolen you are accusing the officials of dishonesty. He also implied the Big12 was somehow bad because the officials were bad. I think his punishment was appropriate.
You see things online that BYU is well liked in the conference because they treat opposing teams and fans well. Utah was not all that thrilled about being in the Big 12. At least their fans weren’t. They thought they should be in the Big 10. A lot of their fans think the Big 12 was a step down from the PAC 12. They referred to the Big 12 as the truck stop conference. Utah is not well liked by the Big 12 fans. The Utah fans are arrogant and came into the conference thinking they would be the dominant team and they are sitting almost at the bottom of the conference and most Big 12 fans I suspect are gratified. Their ADs outburst just reinforced what a lot of Big 12 fans already believed.
BYU came into the league and their fans made it known they were thrilled to be a part of the Big 12 and it looks like the rest of the Big 12 likes BYU.
Somebody suggested the Utes go back to the PAC 12. Sounds good to me. The PAC 12 is looking for some teams. I doubt many Big 12 fans would care. The Ute fans need to eat some humble pie and be grateful they are still in a power 4 conference. Maybe with their team at the bottom of the league they are starting to check their arrogance but right now this latest incident with the AD I suspect reinforces the negative perception about the U.

The fine should be more. The AD’s income is probably more than a million dollars.
The refs were from the PAC12. Now, we should have some humility because we lost 5 in a row our 1st year.
The last couple of games it looks like Kyle doesn’t want to be at Utah. He’s looks and acts burned out. Good time to replace the AD and football coach.
I wouldn’t be supersized if he is fired/ resigns tomorrow, and I bet that all their games next year will be at the worst time they can be.
“truck stop conference” sounds like what a typical utah fans would say, they are so arrogant. my favorite display of their arrogance is when they would call USC their rival. it was like the little brother trying to latch on to his older brother so he looked cool. but I am sure if you told this to a USC fan they would laugh and say. Who?
I think we can put to rest Floyd’s assertion that the holding call was wrong. I just read an article on the internet quoting a former NFL ref and current NBC rules analyst that the call was absolutely correct and that what the UTE player did was an obvious foul. He said “It’s a foul. It has always been a foul and it will always be a foul regardless of game, time, score, or situation.” The man who made the remark is Terry McAulay a former NFL referee of 20 years and is a current rules analyst for NBC. He is a rules analyst for NFL games, Notre Dame games, and Big Ten Saturday Night. He is paid by NBC to look at this stuff and he looked at the play and said it was an obvious hold. I will trust his judgment based on his credentials. What he was saying is that what the Utah player did was obvious holding and it should be called regardless of the circumstances. Case closed. The Utah AD is not only full of crap he was slanderous toward the refs.
You all saw the final play where the Utes were lateraling ball around after the kickoff and a flag came out for unsportsmanlike conduct on the Utah bench. It turns out it was because the Utah AD ran out on the field before the game was over.

If I had to bet on how all of this goes down the AD is essentially fired and Witt retires (even if he doesn’t want to) at the end of the year. they go out and find different head coach then the one he wants to replace him. Utah has had so much bad press in the last 10 years, I think they will want to clean house in their athletic department. much like they did with their police department. behind the scenes they will be begging the BIG12 to not punish them as bad as they are going to.

But Floyd went to all the same classes and therefore superior to anyone on the planet. Alright, I’ll stop dumping on him. Just wish he would stop with this narcissistic tendencies of puffing himself up. He does it in politics because he knows everyone and therefore right.
If Floyd knows what is good for him he will acknowledge that he was wrong. It will go a long way to maintaining his credibility, something that the Hopper has had an issue with for years. That is why, though different, they are so much alike.
Anyhow I saw the Utah AD acting like a baby after the play was shown on that youtube video. How embarrassing and it just makes Utah look worse than they already are. If the utes aren’t happy in the football truck stop conference, I wonder what they will say about the truck stop basketball conference, where they are picked to finish last.
This is only going to get worse.
I don’t need you or anyone else to tell me what “is good for me”. I don’t need to get validation from others people like Hopper does.
The difference between hopper and me is that “I believe I am right until I am proven wrong”. ARO provided what an NFL official said, I was finally able to see a reverse view of the play. Yes, the Ute grab JoJo. So technically it is holding.
My feeling and is backed up by Blaine Fowler on BYUTV post game, is that Utah is notorious for grabbing players, which they did all game long, why call that one and not the others?
BTW, the phantom calls I was talking about is holding call on Hill, when he did a textbook blocking and yet was called for holding. the roughing the passer call on both BYU and Utah.
This site use to be fun to come too, Neil Calderwood, Shad, Bob and many others had good inside information and they have all left, why? Because everything has become personal attacks or some self righteousness going on.
I think it is time for me to do the same and you all can have Hopper tell you what is the right way to think, believe and be.

I don’t know if you will even read this. I don’t agree with you all the time but our interactions have been positive and I think that holds true with most of the regular posters here I hope you will stick around. It is good to hear your opinion on things. I rarely argue with hopper because it is pointless. I agree with him on most things but I don’t like the way he insults people. He will probably tell me off for saying this but I am not going to get drawn into an argument with him. He needs to quit insulting people.

How come everyone else can see it from the shot on the TV we all saw and you could not? The problem is you came into a BYU forum to side with the Utes. Blaine did agree with you since he said it was a penalty.
Now, the questions about the phantom calls, we debate this with basketball too. It comes down to the angles and positioning of the officials and what they see. During games, announcers often will say that one should have not been called. Like the one Bradshaw said should have not been called in the last game.
Back to the divine defensive holding call. Blaine didn’t say it shouldn’t have been called. He’s saying why not others as well. I’ll just say that this one was more aggressive and disruptive to the receiver and the referee’s decision point of aggression happened. There’s grabbing and then there’s GRABBING! (Voice inflection) was it a grab of 1 or 2? Or was it a 7 or 8? (On a scale of 1-10). It was the 7 or 8.
My issue is until you can prove a referee is biased and made that call to steal the game, then going down that rabbit hole is worse that the penalty itself. It’s saying he deliberately broke a Ten Commandment. And, do you really think BYU would get a biased call over any other state school? Really? From former PAC12 officials?
Now, here we go again. I’ve been proven wrong so I’m leaving! Cut the dramatics. You do it just as much and enjoy it too. Neil didn’t leave because of me. He left because of Thawk and others ganging up on others. Anyway, lighten up. Have a sense of humor like Jim.

I am your friend Floyd. I thought I could say something honest and direct without you getting all upset. You knew it was good for you to acknowledge that you were wrong about the holding call and I know you did the right thing. Your integrity and honest way of trying to portray situations remains intact. There is no reason for you to be offended and certainly no reason for you to leave.
Please don’t on either account. I agree with the rest of the posters, your opinion and perspective are valued and most of us like your posts. If what I said was offensive then I apologize. I didn’t realize I could offend someone I consider a friend.
After all, look at some of the stuff I write to the Hopper!
I guess some people just have thin skins. I like bantering back and forth while cracking jokes. After all, when I’m wrong, I always admit it. 
Aro, I JUST responded to the long thread with my take on what McAulay said—my bad for not reading your post first.
I told an extremely senior person at BYU that I couldn’t imagine the conversation with Holmoe and Shane Reese had Holmoe pulled a stunt like that. The response: “Tom would be fired.”
I don’t think Utah disciplines him at all, much less fire him. Whittingham hates BYU. The AD hates BYU. Somehow UofU went from a place that treated BYU like a respected rival to a culture of all out hate and aggression. Urban Meyer started it but Whittingham seems to have taken it to a new level the last 20 years.
When Whittingham ridiculously and ignorantly accused Robinson of intentionally injuring Kuithe, I lost ANY remaining shred of respect I ever had for the guy. What a total jerk. This loss serves him right.

Why does Whittingham hate BYU? Anybody know the back story on that? I once was told it had something to do with his father but I have never been able to confirm it.
