Young has some schoolies to fill, who will it be

2 more schollies to fill, We are seeing crazy times here at BYU. Kevin Young targeted 4 elite players and got 3 of the four…
.unheard of
** never happened in BYU basketball history before.**
Guess what? BYU can defend for once.

Needs?
Point Guard…Check
Shooting Guard…Check
Drive and dish…Check
Knell a 3…hahahaha…Check
Defend inside…Check
Score inside…Check

Hmmmmmm, looking for a 3-4 that can really shoot.

I still want to see someone who can play defense and score inside at the 5 taller than 6’7”. I would like to see one more shooting guard that can play some team defense too. Mag is a 3 or 4 position.

There was a comment by a NBA expert that said a player who is smaller can play bigger than their actual size. Can’t remember who it was, but the player he was talking about was only 6’-8" or so, but his wingspan was 7’-2".

This new recruit is supposed to be the best defensive player in the portal. time will tell.

I would like to see what Young offense will look like.

Mag is a great defender at the 4 and 3 position. That’s why he’s been recruited. Not the 5. Egor could play the 5 when he adds 30-40 pounds. We still need another big. I’m hoping Koslowsky will come off the bench behind Mag and learn the college game. At least in the beginning. Right now we literally have 10 potential starters. What a problem to have.

247Sports says he can defend the 4 or 5 position.

But with the college game changing so much, not sure if a tall center is needed anymore. Time will tell.

Won’t be used there. Tavanari says 3 and 4. I’ll go with him. He’s probability 6-6 or 6-5. You know how it goes. Need another big, period. The 6’11”’guy number one prospect this year is visiting today and this week. That’s who we need.

Last year Atiki didn’t play much and he was really the only “true” traditional big on the team.
Waterman tall enough but a 3-4.
Khalifa a point center who without mobility didn’t do much except take space on the traditional 5 defensive position.
Foos…nough said…talented best 5 we had.

Still want to see how Adam Stewart looks post mission.

KY has said in more than one interview now that he feels solid with the center/big position for what he wants to do.

Stewart has size. From videos he was playing against midgets. He has nice footwork and can shoot the 3. Good passing too. Just a 3 star at 7’0””. Can’t teach height. Looks like maybe redshirt this year to get mission legs back?

I went back a looked at Stewart’s highlights
3-Star Big Man and Texas Native Adam Stewart Commits to BYU - Vanquish The Foe

Great floor presence, can make a pass when doubled
Uses either hand for close shots
good 3 point shot, but shoots low, from the chest, similar to Khalifa
Fundamental, uses his body well and smart
now the bad…can’t get 6 inches off the floor but a 7’, he dunks relatively easy.
Athletic guys would blow by or sky over him

He is a preferred walk on, going to BYU on a 4.0 full ride schollie. Super asset to the BBall program
KY has a a rim rocker/blocker in Keba that can run if KY resorts to high tempo. He has Foos to grind it out but Stewart is a solid backup.

KY has to be targeting Athletes and 40% or higher 3 point forwards

Foos probably is the backup this year. Maybe. Ext year. Or, if one gets hurt then backup. Can’t teach 7’.

I think I may consider him a solid backup by the end of the year…he needs to knock some mission rust off him…my impression is that bigs have had a tougher transition than others with the mission recovery.

He played local Real Salt Lake Academy, which is now changing its name and moving to Hurricane. So at least the step up to NCAA speed will be slightly smaller than it is for the average frosh.

and a pretty inconsistent, streaky shooter at that.

I still think he is in over his head when the competition ramps up.

He loses body control and bends at the waist shooting 3’s. Makes him shoot long or short. I think Young will correct that. He will be practicing against much better defenders and will learn to focus more. The problem is, unless he’s shooting 47% from 3’s or better, there are now 10 others better than him. Young and his coaches have changed things in basketball. Now, can Sitaki do the same in football?

Coleman from Ill. would be a big target but…he wants 7 figures to play. No word if BYU is even looking his way

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reported that San Francisco transfer wing Mike Sharavjamts has narrowed his options to Utah, Saint Mary’s and Illinois.

What top transfer portal players are BYU and Utah linked to? – Deseret News

This a kid that would fit in really well at BYU. Excellent long range bomber yet savvy at getting easy dunks on the back door.

As i understand it, the no. 1 guy, Debantsa, is 6-8 and will be a HS senior next year, so he would be more like Demin’s replacement than a fit for this coming year.

BYU basketball: BYU adds walk-on big man Max Triplett – Deseret News

Don’t we have a Triplett on the team already? Or did the other one move on somewhere else?

I think so and he made one three pointer or something all season.

Just need one more Triplett and BYU Basketball will have triplets
