I know what I was watching so 3 straight posts by thawk attempting to discredit what I saw won’t change that. I don’t care if they are 10-0 and the argument that this team beat that team who beat this other team that happened to beat a different team is just as bogus as mentioning that they were picked to finish low end in their league. I guess the coaches in the sun belt conference are even dumber than I am when it comes to understanding football.
Honestly, good for CC football this season. It’s nice that the red neck, mullets are having a season of a lifetime. In the interest of the 3 or 4 players on their team who have any class I hope they have great memories of this season because it is an anomaly. I still maintain that there was very little evidence of the notion that they are a really good team. They are good because of their record and their coaches ability to implement a game plan. Once again thawk, sorry if I wasn’t impressed with their football skills, I BELIEVE that BYU beats them 4 out of 5 games head to head.
I never thought I would see the day that grasshopper acknowledges and understands my comments while thawk does not. 2020 has been a year for a millennium, nothing surprises me anymore.
Excuses, excuses, excuses. BYU lost and in a very embarrassing manner. The cougars lost. They played and lost. That is the one and all of it. After watching football, basketball and baseball for 60+ years, that is all I have ever heard - the losing team or fans want to spout EXCUSES to deny what actually happened. All those teams played and lost. Have the dignity and respect for the winner and for yourself (the loser) that it was a loss and that is all. Have respect for the TRUTH.
If you and Jim are saying that the “proper preparation” includes changing our defense or getting a better DC … then I agree with you. But I am telling you, we could play CC again next week and I think we would lose again. I think their coaches are better than ours. Hate to say that but you watch and see if a coach or 2 leaves CC for a bigger school and more pay after the season is over. Bet that happens.
What are the odds we lose a coach to a better program/school?
“SG has a high level of intuition and understanding of the universe. I’ve realized after a difficult 2020 that I’ve been obtuse concerning SG’s level of genius.”
The Sun Belt coaches might be dumber than you are in terms of voting CC to be last in their league and then everyone of them getting thumped badly by CC on the field!
This comment only proves my point that CC isn’t that talented. It is more about coaching than anything else which also kind of confirms that they don’t pass my eye test. I understand that you have this glowing resume to legitimize everything you post as infallible, but some of us make some relevant comments as well on occasion.
It was the coaches that voted them in that spot right? I guess they don’t know anything either. Also the whole point of my mentioning the pre season ranking was to point out that this season is an anomaly and football people likely didn’t expect it. The sun belt coaches didn’t expect it, the sportswriters didn’t expect it, etc. Does that make them a good team? sure, this season they are doing good. They don’t pass the eye test for me. They just don’t look that good. Will they be able to maintain it through the end of the season? Maybe they will.
After a couple of days it’s obvious that it’s not one thing that went wrong. The line did not dominate like they should have. Wilson didn’t have the protection he needed. A couple of momentum dropped catches and a fumble. Things that can be associated with fatigue from the jet lag. Strange play calls including early gadget plays. Lack of referees calling holding on CC. The DC not making adjustments to stop their running and ball control.
The bottom line, we are a top offensive team and 22 points for the other team should have been overcomes. We had 11 offensive possessions as did CC. We should have scored in the mid 30’s. And that’s the bottom line. We win because of our offense.
It doesn’t matter who expected what … CC is a good team regardless of whether you or the coaches of the SBC think they are. CC beat everyone on their schedule … so the coaches and you who don’t think they are very good must admit that their own team is worse than CC! Makes no sense that you are arguing about whether they are good or not. They are a top 12 team at best and a top 20 team at worst. Go find a more worthwhile issue to argue about.
I will this Thawk, but since you are the all knowing football expert, you should already know this…
According to “The” best Football coach in BYU history, and a Hall of fame coach Lavell Edwards said “One of the hardest teams to prepare for is an option team, especially if they are good at it (like AF was in the day). In order to beat a good option team is too be assignment sound and execute”.
BYU had two things stacked against them 1) time to prepare for an option team (with a QB that can throw) and B) a defensive coaching staff that does not know who to defend the option.
What??? What did we do to Navy, an option team. We know what to do. This wasn’t a standard option anyway. We simply didn’t make the adjustments as the game went on.
Let me also say that Lavell’s strategy was to outscore the opponents. 22 points for the #4 scoring team and yards per game should have been enough. But, we didn’t make changes to combat their swarming defense either.
dude, don’t we have enough hate in this world to be calling people “Rednecks”? Seriously you could have made you point that you were not impressed with CC without throwing insults.
Second, the reason CC is good is because they run the option extremely well. much like AF did back in the 80’s. I am not saying they are on the level of Alabama or Ohio State, but they are a good team “this year”.
I put this loss squarely on the defensive coaches because they did not defend against the option hardly at all. The offense even with defense losing it, almost pulled it out at the end.
As I mentioned before, the team was not prepared, out coached and no one on the defensive side of the ball played assignment sound.
