Coastal Carolina

Navy sucks this year (look at their record compared to last year), they did not have any contact drills during pre-season and it showed on the field. They were neither mentally ready for the game nor where they physically ready for the team.

They only scored 22 points. That’s pretty good and plenty good enough to win by 14. No, this was on the inability for the coaches on offense to combat their swarming defense that caused Wilson to rush his clock in his head.
Also, we dropped balls that we haven’t all year that killed drives.

Not a valid excuse. We shut them down because we had time to prepare. With Navy we swarmed them with our linebackers and safeties. With CC we didn’t. Why? Coaches mad no adjustments. Even with that, we only gave up 22 points on 11 possessions they had. We also had 11 possessions and could only score 17 points??? The offense didn’t make changes to better protect Wilson.

We have already been saying this but #3 and the biggest issue is that Sitake and Co didn’t adjust a single thing on the defensive line the whole game. We couldn’t get the ball out is CC’s hands the second half. Sure we only scored 3 pts in the second half … but 90% of the blame is on our dumb defensive coaches.

You do know that CC set a school record for a 94 yard drive for a touchdown against BYU?!?

With all the terrible teams that they have played this year we are the only one they set a record against! It was almost a 10 minute drive folks! Total embarrassment for all our defensive coaches.

Floyd, don’t get behind Hopper on this issue. He already called me on it! Be ahead of Hopper or you are in more trouble than I am for talking to myself!!

I’m not arguing the point, you are. I stated an opinion and you argued it. I think this is the point where our discussion/pissing match leads to one of us claiming that we are in the head of the other. You used to do that with the Hopper and you were right. If I said that CC was not a good team, I was wrong. They are a good team. Perhaps if I clarified for you what I meant, which I have done a few times now and others seem to understand and accept it, it is this.

I wasn’t impressed with them overall. They had some good RB’s made better by our terrible defensive scheme. They had some good defensive players made better by our mediocre play calling (this game) and slow footed O-line that should have been run blocking most of the game. Every time the QB ran he looked like he was going to trip and fall down. Be honest about how they looked to you, independent of how BYU played. Did they pass the eye test? Did you watch the game and think to yourself “wow these guys are really good”?

They just don’t look that great to me and for the umpteenth time, I am sorry they don’t.

3 points in one half? I think we see the problem with why we lost. #4 team in offense scores only 3 points in one half on 6 possessions? Trevor Matich pointed this out today as the single biggest reason we lost.

What I do know is most in here don’t like the DC coach and will not let up on him even though the biggest reason we lost was the OL did not give Wilson time to check down most of the game. Was it jet lag? Partially. Was it lack of adjustments to their swarming defense? Partially. Was their some odd play calling? Partially. But let’s leave our hatred of a coach out of this. 22 points was good enough to win.

It is his job to give the defense opportunities to make plays, get stops and get the ball back to the offense. BYU should have run the ball more and they didn’t. They should have dug into the trenches and been more physical. I think BYU is bigger and stronger, why did they try to finesse it?

There are a lot of reasons, the most glaring of which was that the defense couldn’t get stops or make plays when they needed to.

The defense could have done more, sure. But we had the ball 11 times and in the 2nd half 6 times and only scored 3 points. The defense did not lose this game. Not only could we have run more but knock off the sweeps too. Run up the middle and create holes. Pass block a lot better. And, forget gadget plays early on and running Wilson twice in a row. Put some glue on receivers as well. Offense lost this game.

No, I did not see that Hopper called you on it, just thought it was a bit strange you answered your own post…

unfortunately for me, I was not able to watch the game because it was on one of ESPN castoff ESPNU… Which I do not have access for, so I had was stuck having to listen to the KSL on the radio to hear the game, which made me upset and then on top of that, I had to listen to “noodle arm” doing color for McCann.

How about putting some of it on both sides of the ball, players and coaches. Is that okay?

Why was that? Because the DEFENSE did not do their job. If they did their job, they would have forced CC into more 3 and outs!

And yet with seconds ticking on the clock, they were close to scoring another TD… They did not lose this game, the defense (especially the coaches) did by allowing CC to be on the field most of the game

Because 22 points against a scoring machine like CC is very good. Could we have done better? Yes. We should have made adjustments. But they still bent but didn’t break.
11 possessions is enough to score in the 30’s and even 40’s. 3 points in the 2nd half did us in.

We were averaging 45 points a game. We scored 17 and only 3 in the entire second half. Dropped passes. Fumbles. Sacks. No blocking on the OL to cover the swarming defense.
Holding CC to 22 points on their 11 possessions should have been good enough to win by at least 14 points.
Maybe the silver lining is Wilson may come back for another year.

Sitake’s was giving credit to CC. You are correct-what could have been-should have beens are not relevant so it’s time to move on to SDSU. Better come to play or it might get worse. I’m not much for excuses-it is what it is

All this nonsense about why we lost is irrelevant- it was a team loss and both the OL and the DL and coaching decisions were equally the reason. BYU gave up almost 300 rushing yards. That equals less possessions for BYU. If I would have known BYU only would score 17 points before the game, I would have said loss. Move on and think about SDSU-win big and at least you figure BYU will end the season ranked and that is a big deal for the program

BYU was up 14-13 at halftime. It was 9 CC points that did us in.

Not really irrelevant, it’s why we have a discussion board. At this point in time nothing can be done about any of it except what BYU does moving forward.

They have to regroup and put a beating on SDSU, that’s all there is to it.
