Romney is a Democrat

Grasshopper, I was going to ask you a political question and then decided I didn’t need that. However, I was in the Ventura area for a last second trip a couple weeks ago. The sun there was so much better than my frozen over back yard here in Colorado. You are obviously a much smarter man than me.

The better option? The progressives. That just leads to more and more socialism and totalitarianism. The 52 Senators that voted to acquit Trump saved the Constitution.

You should let us know when in the area. We can have lunch.
I’m still waiting for Floyd to answer what in the Democrat Platform the Prophet would agree to…

You are entitled to your OPINION Floyd. The problem is your OPINION is not facts. The GOP has a stranglehold on Utah State government and that has been the case for at least 45 years. That is the one overriding FACT. We can get into a tit for tat long discussion about my “facts” and your “facts” but I have a good life to lead and no interest in participating.

Why the anger Arkie? Why the negative comments?

Is your FACTS anything but “YOUR OPINION” as you say “MY FACTS” are My OPINION only.

For the record, I was born and raised in this State and have followed the politics for close to 50 years. I have friends who have been elected to some of the biggest positions in this State. Who are/were Died in the wool Republicans. Some of my friends are some of the higher up’s at Sutherland Institute.

So please don’t try to insult my FACTS as opinion only… I do research and talk to those who are in the nuts and bolts of government.

Based on your post, you seem to be one of those “Vote R” only found in Utah.

In this upcoming election on the national scene, our only way to stop Pelosi, Schiff, Schiff and the rest of the mostly far left Democrat Party is to vote R down the line including in state and local elections. If not, we are doomed as a Constitutional Republic.

None of you have a clue what Romney was thinking. You are being very judgmental for being so clueless. Hardly a Christlike attitude. I have no idea why Romney voted the way he did and frankly it doesn’t matter. If he had such a hatred for Trump why didn’t he vote to impeach on both issues? I am not a fan of Romney-but I allow him the rights that are due to his office. Utahans will be able to gauge in the next election how many difficulties he caused himself. I wouldn’t vote for him but not being a resident of Utah it doesn’t matter and I have no harsh criticism for him either.

By his own words he has shown hatred towards Trump. Trump didn’t pick him for a post bad he immediately sided with Schumer, Schiff and Pelosi. And, his behavior in front of the Senate is something he can and should be judged on. He was trying to hide his hatred behind his faith and it showed in his voice, on his face and body language and in his countenance. Trying to be King Benjamin an ended up a court jesters.

That is your opinion and not necessarily wrong or factual. You like to bandy that word “hate” around and again you are biased and far from unprejudiced. Like so many others from both parties and a lot of people in general. I’m sure if you asked Romney if he hated Trump he would say no, but you seem inclined to make that decision for him. That isn’t right

Just taking his own past words and actions to make that decision. I’m not prejudice or bias except for pepperoni pizza and BYU

Common biases-but don’t ever remember him saying “hate” that’s your own wording

None of the Democrats or Never-Trumpers Republicans have said the word hate. They use words and actions to give the impression of vile hatred towards Trump and his deplorables.

Floyd, you seem to respond to me in the same way grasshopper responds to some people. It is a fact that Republicans have dominated politics in Utah for at least 45 years. If you deny that fact, there is no use in discussion with you. That some Dems have been elected to office is also a fact but SOME is not domination.

I have voted for Dems for Utah governor, senate, house, county commission, and city government. I have voted for independents. Those are facts too Floyd. Facts are different from opinions. I too have a lot of opinions. Everyone who has ever lived on the planet long enough for their brains to develop to a certain degree have opinions.

I am not angry at you Floyd but I am assertive.

Finally, I am high falluting too. I know some people in church, who have relatives who know of some other friends in their neighborhood who are related to people from their hometowns who know people who have been in high offices in Utah who also are Dems. So there. I am well connected also.

Arkie,
I am like a mirror, when someone is “assertive”(as you call it) towards me, I respond in kind with the same attitude. It just my DNA, I guess.

Where did you get the idea that I don’t believe the GOP is dominant in State Government? Nothing I have posted even comes close to saying that.

I know the GOP controls the Governor and Legislature (since 1980’s), I have worked within the State Government for decades. So I know a lot more about what actually happening within the walls of State Government, because I have to deal with it everyday at work.
So why would I say or imply that the government branches in Utah (Except SLC) is not dominated by the GOP?
Sorry if there was a miscommunication, I did say though, that if the democrats in Utah actually wants to win some seats in the Legislature they got to stop promoting the far left candidates instead of supporting the more moderate candidates. But the Utah Democrat Party seems hell bent on promoting the far left instead of candidates that most Utahan could relate too. Maybe that is why you assumed that I did not think the GOP controlled the state government.

Everything I post is based on facts that I have personally research or that I have been personally involved in, when it comes to politics. Just because you don’t like what I say, does not means it is not factual.

What started this interchanged between us seems to be me calling the GOP party committee “Nutso”.
Which that part is an opinion of course, but what do you call it when the GOP extreme right committee members was so hell bent on defeating SB54 (Voters right to Vote law) that they take the party to the point of almost being bankrupt (they had almost a half million of unpaid legal fees in which they were being taking to court over)?

As for my references, I actually do get a lot of my information from inside the party through some of the long time committee members (moderates) and Conservative Think Tank (Sutherland’s) members that I know.

Some of those people are too conservative for me, but we have some good “Lively” discussion, but always remain friends.

So you can like me or not like me, that is choice you have to determine, but just be warned that if you act like Scott and attack me, I will respond in kind.

I don’t attack you… You just get defensive really fast. Are there really many moderates left in the Democrat Party? I don’t see, hear or feel it…

Not a fan of Romney and I am looking at the big picture. By voting the way Romney did, he especially became a lame duck senator. No one on the Washington will work with him so what can Mitt do for Utah now? Mitt can’t work with Dems (you know, the guys who spend 24/7 trying to impeach and undo anything Trump tries to get done), Utahan’s won’t stand for it. Repubs have excommunicated him and won’t work with him. He is worthless to do anything for Utah.

The two impeachment charges gave a person like Romney a way out with those people like yourself who can be fooled by picking one over the other. Pelosi gave Romney cover and anyone else to use the logic you tried to: why one or not the other makes him free from hated and not a never Trumper?
You bought this hook, line and sinker…
:sunglasses:

Floyd, I do not like you and I do not dislike you. I do not know you. You can be assertive with me or angry with me, whatever floats your boat. I have only called out your definition of facts because it seems to me that you do what most of us do. And that is muddy up facts with opinions. What someone else says about another person’s attitudes or behavior (for example) are not facts. References and statistics are wayyy too often manipulated to support a person or group’s stance on something. I don’t believe in research unless the study (and several replication studies finding the same results) scrupulously follows established scientific research methodologies. There are much too much research studies conducted to prove something or disprove something, which is not good research procedure.

The reason I brought up the word you used, “nutso” is to illustrate that both Repubs and Dems and liberals and conservatives use derogatory terms. Your description of the Utah senate leadership with regard to Utah SB54 would not be someone else’s characterization. There might be many perceptions of their behavior.

I retired as a state of Utah employee.

Your comment: "Everything I post is based on facts … " seems untrue to me in that I would bet $100 that NONE of us (me included) can truthfully make such a claim.

What you say about Dems promoting far left candidates is my observation also.

Do not worry about me, I sure as hell am no shrinking violet. I can, will and have responded in a number of ways. So you or anyone else, attack or play nice, I can handle it either way, although I prefer nice.

Actually, I was not the one that defined “Nutso” it was GOP party president Anderson after the far right Committee ousted him because he decided to stop the court actions against SB54. I also have seen that the moderates are now leaving the GOP because of the far right actions. That is why the United Utah party came to be, the moderates from both the GOP and Democrats created the party.

I try hard to not put in my opinion about subjects (except sports), because I find too many people following the party line instead of doing their own research.

I do love your side step on Statistics (only use the ones that follow established scientific research methodologies, which in itself is set on a bias. Sorry, but I became jaded to people siting “scientific research methodologies” as the only source of true statistics, because of my college statistics professor. He stated that scientific research methodologies no matter how hard they try is always based on a personal bias, because people are human.

I guess you are right in one aspect of my facts being opinion… That is I research and try to look at all sides of an issues, try to determine what is factual and what is spin. Then I try to determine the truth.

The REALITY is that there is NO FACTS about any issue a person discusses. because Everyone has biases, everyone interprets what they want to believe based on their perceptions of the truth.

Reading a lot of comments on this thread reminded me of what one of my sisters told me when she was active in the Utah GOP when she lived there. She said that the ultra conservatives would argue with the conservatives and the moderate republicans were seen as lepers and had little voice except at the ballot box. It makes me kind of laugh because no one is ever the better for it. Being center left, I know my political ideology doesn’t mesh with church politics so I am seen as being a leftist liberal when in reality I align more with George H. W. than Bernie. In 20 years the political landscape will likely look much different than today and the Dems and Republicans will have flip flopped on some issues.

It is interesting hearing about Romney being a democrat because Reagan was a democrat at one point. In all honesty, I wish there were 3-4 parties and we had to form coalition governments. It allows for people to support politicians who they identify with more than 2 options that get controlled by the wings. Whether it would work or not is a different story.
