I can’t argue with this… I have seen the same. I think he is torn between trying to run the Detmer offense and doing what he does. He looks slow to make decisions and confused sometimes. It is affecting his confidence and accuracy when he throws.
BYU has put themselves in an uncomfortable situation… tough decisions need to be made going forward.
Actually, we had two completed passes over 20 yards in the game. If you want to be nit-picky, the 39 yard pass to Jamaal was mostly yards after the catch, but the pass to Nick Kurtz was a legitimate 23 yard completion.
So one legitimate pass for 23 yards? Still pitiful. Down right awful. We don’t know how Mangum would have done, but I know he would have more than that.
It is true that there are a lot of problems on the offense and the biggest one is probably not the QB play. The issues with the offensive line are the most glaring. How many times was Williams tackled in the backfield? Jamaal averaged 2 yards per carry. That’s way below his average. Without better line play, any qb is going to look bad. Next, look at the number of dropped balls by the receivers (16 in three games). Taysom was throwing hard but they need to do a better job of catching anything in their radius. Its not all on Taysom. Still, the coaches may make a switch at QB if the offense continues to struggle just to see if Tanner can provide a spark. All we needed was one more successful drive in each game and we would be sitting at 3-0.
Yes, we are. That last play, he should of thrown to his outside shoulder. But actually he had a wide open running lane to his left. He would have gotten down to the 15 or 10 yard line.
More so, I hate when announcers are right. We have to stop going for 2 point conversion. Had we not, the score would have been 35-35 and that throw would have been unnecessary.
At the rate BYU is playing we will be lucky to win five or six. Let’s see, what are the possibilities? Maybeee…UMASS, So. Utah, I don’t know about Utah State now, or Cincinnatii; can we or could we ever beat Boise State, Toledo, Mich. St.? What is the other team? How about a five and seven Poinsettia Bowl team. Then we play Taysom against a San Diego St.
Several teams played in bowls with 5 and 7 records last year, Nebraska for one. I believe the number was three. There are too many bowls thesess days to all have 6 wins.
Detmer made a comment the other day about his bad start his senior year. He seemed to indicate that other problems are causing Taysom to look worse than his is, and a switch to Tanner wouldn’t help much.
Having said that, I do see that Taysom, 1) looks much slower than he ever has, and 2) his accuracy stepped back to his sophmore year. Is is the system? I don’t know, but I’ll put my trust in the coaches to make what they think are the choices best for the team.
Interesting. I thought there was an NCAA rule that said a team must have a winning record to become bowl eligible. Maybe that only applies to Power5 teams. Well, Nebraska is power 5, so that’s not it. I looked it up and that is clearly stated as a rule. Are scrub bowl games like the Poinsettia Bowl considered a true post season bowl by the NCAA?
Why do it on that last long throw when you still have some time left to get close to a field goal or TD. He should of known better when he hasn’t been throwing those long passes well since season started.
They need to keep up the GFGH - oops - faster pace game.
I’m sure they practice on long passes but I called it high risk toward the end. If he had less than 4 sec at beyond 35 or 40 yards then yes throw long.
All we can say keep up the hard work for next game.
Completing passes. He threaded the needle several times. But you’re so reactionary and impatient that you can’t see that. He also rushed for 104 yards too.
