Another year will help Childs. He can work on his midrange game and three point shooting. He can develop other moves as well.
He’s not playing in the NBA. He has no tattoo’s, he is a member of the church now and he has different priorities. There is no reason for him to stick around and play another year… as much as the grasshopper wants him to, he’s not going to do it.
How do you know he doesn’t have any reasons to stay one more year? Are you a mind reader?
The ones I know of currently…
Boris Diaw, Thabo Sefolosha and Royce O’Niel all of the Jazz
Others:
Eddie Johnson - Pacers
Wilson Chandler - Nuggets
Xaiver McDaniels - Nets
Jordan Crawford = Pelicans
JR Smith - Knicks
Derron Williams - Mav’s
Is that enough for you Scott?
I think he has a chance to play, but to be honest being at BYU another year does not seem to be to be a benefit as long as Rose is coaching… Just my take…
I think Childs will go Europe then the NBA…
Oh by the way, the last BYU player that went overseas then to the NBA? Travis Hansen…
Not winning teams for sure
Not many players in 50 years so not much chance for our BYU overseaers. If Jimmer can’t make it back for a couple of years, not much chance at all. When is the great Mika coming back? Never!
Scott, you did not say anything about them being on winning teams, you asked “What player in recent history, say 50 years, has gone to overseas and played, then returned to the NBA?”
I provided you with a list… I knew you would twist it so that you could save face.
Now go look at the number of European players that played in Europe then came to the NBA, most NBA rosters there are at least one player who played in Europe
All three of the starters for the NBA champions (Spurs - Duncan, Parker, Ginobali, ) all played in Europe/Overseas at one point or another.
Dirk Nowenski (sp?) won a title with Dallas… Pau Gasol, with the Lakers, etc…
Jimmer can’t play defense, pure and simple as too why he is not in the NBA… He is too big of a liability.
Answer this question Scott: What Rose coached BYU player has ever made it in the NBA?
Jimmer and Davies have played in the NBA
I asked “What Rose coached BYU player has ever made it in the NBA?”
Jimmer and Davies playing a couple years is not considered “Made It”. I am talking Danny Anige, Fred Roberts, Greg Kite, Shawn Bradley type thing…
Shaun Bradley??? What a disappointment in the NBA. All because he didn’t come back and play college ball to learn the game before being thrown in.
Very few rookies in the NBA ever develop more skills. The NBA is professional and expect players to have the skills they are looking for. Other than that, stay in school. Only a very few are able to develop more skill and skills in the NBA. Lebron learned to shoot midrange and 3’s. But that wasn’t needed to score 20-30 points because he couldn’t be stopped while driving to the basket. Kobe, Jordan and a few other elites developed different moves and shots. But, that was the top elites. 4 years of college ball is what most need. But, the money distracts.
If you want to talk about “made it” Danny Ainge is the only one on your list. The others were able to exist on the bench warming crew. So, it you play a few years, that’s making it too. They at least made the team. Collingsworth did so for a short time.
Actually, if you go back and look, when Bradley came home the NBA was going to go to their new pay structure for rookies (What is currently being done). When Shawn came home he was offered 72 Mil to play… So you are telling me that he should have turned it down to come back to BYU?
He had a 13 yr career in the NBA, so I am not sure why you say “disappointment”.
Scott: "Very few rookies in the NBA ever develop more skills. " Are you really that naive to say this?
If a professional does not develop more skills every year, then he is out of the league…
Take for example Karl Malone, when he came in he was around 40% FT shooter, moved it up to the mid to high 70’s, developed the outside shot later in life to avoid being hammered inside.
Every professional improves their skills set… they have to do it to make their money. Duh!
Actually, Greg Kite and Fred Roberts were great off the bench players who had at least a 10-15 yr career.
Were they stars? no, but they also made it so that the stars could shine. Karl Malone said of all the players who ever played against him was Greg Kite, he said it was like having a cement truck there when he tried to move out…
Karl Malone was an elite like Kobe and Jordan. As I stated, they continued to work on skills. But, many elite college players don’t. And most NBA players don’t stick around very long because they don’t work hard. Bynum was one of those who was lazy. He needed 4 years if college to mature.
Bradley was paid $49 million. And, wouldn’t you take that too? But, it didn’t help his basketball playing. 7’6” isn’t hard to coach. But, he didn’t work hard to develop. In college, he would have had the opportunity and still play NBA ball. The difference would have been he would have produced a lot more.
This is total nonsense… once again. Floyd, you shouldn’t have engaged the grasshopper on this one. It doesn’t matter what you say, he will twist it and make some lame excuse for being wrong.
The truth is that the majority of players going into the NBA at this time have not played 4 years of college basketball. They all leave early. Nearly every player drafted is an underclassman (mostly freshmen) or a foreign player. Grasshopper lives in the past with his Frank Arnold classes he took at BYU in the 70’s. He has no idea what he is talking about most of the time. He just says stuff and then tries to justify and defend it.
I apologize for that stinging indictment but it is the truth. Grasshopper is a friend, but he is way off on this one.
If it was not true, the NBA would be getting better and you would enjoy watching it more. But, you don’t and so it’s not getting better. And the reason is players get a bunch of money and don’t have to get better. The Lakers are a study case in point. After recruiting all those 1st round draft choices over the past several years, and recruiting the greatest player of all time Lebron, they still aren’t going to make the playoffs. They simply haven’t improved their skill. They came in with what they had and it’s still at the same level. There’s your proof
What in the world are you talking about? You are speaking in circles…

Right on Jim H.The WCC and the NCAA sucks. The NCAA committee put the Zags in as a number one seed after they lost the WCC tourney championship game to St. Marys. From what I see the NCAA has its favorites just like the Zags from the WCC. The Big 10 and other P-5 conferences get unhearldited favoritism for the NCAA tournament committee.
Ohio State was 3-7 in their last 10 games and lost to several teams who didn’t make the ncaa tourney during that stretch. Seriously, they have no business being in the ncaa tournament.
But big money talks so there they are.
The experts were saying that the Pac 12 was a one bid conference only a few weeks ago. Seriously, they are not a very good conference. I saw Washington play the other night and they looked terrible. They were the regular season champs. Oregon wins the pac 12 tourney and they both get in as does Arizona State. Oregon has Nike support… big money and they are in. UW looked like they had no interest in winning that game.
It’s the same old sham we see every year.
